Nakajima Park – Amazing place to enjoy culture and nature in Sapporo
Open throughout the year this 21ha park will be the perfect place to spend a few hours in.
Have lunch in the shadows of about 5000 different trees or watching the boats on Shobu Pond from Nakajima Park Boat Pier. Visit Astronomical Observatory, Hokkaido Museum of Literature, and Yahiko Shrine. Take your family or friends to a classical concert to Concert Hall Kitara or Japan first public Putter Theater – Kogumaza. If you like sports, Nakajima Sport Center and Tennis Courts are what you need.
You can learn a bit about Hokkaido history by visiting the historical building Hoheikan, which was built in 1880 as a hotel to accommodate first western dignitaries to come to Hokkaido.
Also, a traditional Japanese garden in Nakajima Park is a new home for the Hasso-an – Japanese traditional tea house designed and built in the early 1600s and presented to Hokkaido by Shiga Prefecture.
Nakajima Park is especially beautiful during the cherry blossom in late April to early May and during the autumn foliage in mid-late October.

【Ordinary World】Nakajima Park in Sapporo ~ Winter ~ 札幌 中島公園・冬
Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan
Located in downtown Sapporo, Nakajima Park is known for its abundance of verdure and water. Mt. Moiwa can be seen in the distance.
In the Meiji era, the park was a timber yard for timber felled in the mountains and floated down the Toyohira River. Now, it's home to Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara and the Hokkaido Museum of Literature. Festivals, sports events, and gardening fairs are held in the park. The park is popular for boating in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.
Along the Kamokamo River, where carp swim, many wild birds and ducks are seen. Residents and sightseers can enjoy nature right in the middle of a big city.
