Inspirational Kung Fu Retreat, Thailand.
Kung Fu is more than a martial art. It is a way of life. Nam Yang’s Shaolin Kung Fu Retreat is a place of inspiration and empowerment for both men and women. Located in the remote mountains of Northern Thailand close to the resort town of Pai, it is a unique place where people come to work on themselves through kung fu, qigong and meditation. Through Kung Fu we conquer our personal demons and become the person who we have always aspired to be.

About The Mountain Training Camp
Mission statement:
Mountain Training Camp grounds
To provide an unrivalled quality of training in the best possible environment to produce the best possible martial artists.
To produce high quality martial arts films: instructional and otherwise.
To train a new generation of instructors good enough to represent Nam Yang and to carry on the Nam Yang family name.
To provide a fully equipped base to which all Nam Yang members can come to train.
Through all of the above, to raise the standard of our members' kung fu to a level worthy of representing the old masters from whom our kung fu family is descended.
The Mountain Training Camp is designed to be the ultimate martial arts training venue! It is set in 2.1 acres of land on the side of a mountain spur, bordering the jungle and with awesome views across the Pai river valley to mountains which rise steadily, layer on layer, to the Himalayas, the roof of the world!
In the early morning, when we begin training, the mountains are usually shrouded in mist which gradually clears as the sun rises.
The school is built in the local Shan style architecture according to Chinese feng shui principles.
We grow our own vegetables.
Rooms are very spacious and comfortable with fan and en suite shower room and toilet / wash room.
We have our own restaurant in beautiful style where we prepare all of our own food, using home grown ingredients wherever possible.
We have wireless internet which is free to all those staying here.
Our training facilities include two octagonal training areas: an open area 18m x 18m and a roofed area 13m x 13m with 2cm thick mats throughout. We also have a training circuit with poles, a tyre dummy, punch bags and parallel bars.
Additional facilities include a prayer house, which may be used for meditation / prayer, an office and a huge statue of Tat Moh (Boddhidharma) the Shaolin founder.
The MTC provides fantastic photo / video opportunities, with constantly changing views according to the season.
The MTC is sheltered behind a mountain ridge so that no built up areas are within view -- only farms, small villages, forested mountains etc. -- but is in fact only 15 minutes walk from the lively Pai town with its multitude of restaurants, bars, cafes etc. so you really do get the best of both worlds!
The mountain training centre is designed to give a complete experience, providing the best of:
Training
Food
Air
Herbal medicine
Views
Rest
This way, our students get the best experience and the best results. You can expect to leave the MTC feeling healthier, stronger and more alert than when you arrived. You should not need to take a holiday to recover!

The Kung Fu Retreat is located in the mountains of Thailand's remote North Western frontier, near to the town of Pai. Students can stay as long as they choose in order to get the absolute best out of them selves and turn their 'kung fu dream' into reality.
For those interested, the words of the voiceover, entitled 'The Path To Greatness' are as follows:
The Path To Greatness.
Within each and every one of us there lies the potential to be great. To go further, to be better, to achieve more. We are all born with a spark of greatness, glowing right inside us. But as life takes its toll and the world wears us down that spark begins to fade and we begin to slide down into ordinariness, into a lifetime of nothingness. And all of that potential is wasted. To succeed we need to find discipline, we need to find inspiration, we need to find great strength within us. In short, we need to find a way. In Chinese, that way has a name. It is called 'Shaolin kung fu'.
The words 'kung fu' mean hard work over a long time. And that is exactly what it is. Transformation is not easy. Greatness does not come without effort. Kung fu means pushing yourself past your limits over and over again. Digging deep and finding that spark.
Shaolin Kung fu has been developed over 1500 years by generations of totally dedicated, focussed individuals to become the ultimate force for change from within. For unleashing our true selves.
We train body, mind, emotion, spirit and soul. We strengthen our tendon until our body is held together as a single springy mass filled with energy just waiting to explode out. We stretch to open our bodies, open our minds, to straighten our posture and walk tall. We harden our fists until they can smash through concrete. We sharpen our reflexes until we move like lightening. We push through pain to strengthen our character. We persevere and endure to discipline our minds. And through perseverance comes success!
As we train, our bodies harden, our shape changes, our minds come into focus, our spirits lift, our consciousness expands. The spark within us starts to glow, then to burn, brighter and brighter until it becomes a raging fire. We start to believe in our selves. The difficult becomes easy. The impossible becomes reality. The real self who we have always known lived deep down within us suddenly starts to shine through, to emerge and to grow.
We start to believe in our selves, respect our selves, value our selves. Confidence comes from the knowledge that we did not cheat, did not slack and definitely did not give up. That we were not afraid of hard work and hard knocks. That we took it all and used it to forge a stronger self.
Our kung fu gives us the power, the confidence and the self respect needed to face anything which life chooses to throw at us. To walk tall and to look anyone straight in the eye. It is not simply about fighting, it is a way of life. A way in which we respect our selves enough to look after our selves properly and not to give in or back down.
Kung fu may be hard work. But when we look back, with a feeling of strength, confidence and satisfaction, we realise that all that hard work was worth it!
Look deep inside your self. Right down to your inner core, to your heart of hearts, and ask your self 'am I happy with what I see? Is this who I really want to be? Or do I need kung fu to change me into something more?'
What do you see your self becoming?
What is your kung fu dream?
What is stopping you?

Chinese Master Tan Soh Tin Shuang Yang White Crane Internal Art Demonstration And Interview.
Master Tan Soh Tin of Singapore demonstrating the Shuang Yang Pei Ho Rou Rouan Chien or Sun Frost White Crane Soft and Gentle Art.
Master Tan is the only surviving teacher to have learned the art directly from Grandmaster Ang Lian Huat and therefore the leading authority on the art. All other teachers have learned from him, his students etc.
The Shuang Yang art is a soft (internal?) form of the Hokkien (Fukienese) Shaolin White Crane Art.
This video shows Master Tan demonstrating the art probably in 1996 in Epsom, England. The sound track is an interview recorded with him in late 2012 in the Nam Yang Mountain Retreat, Thailand.
It is noticeable that over the 17 years or so since this video was recorded the way in which Master Tan performs this routine has changed slightly. It is living art and, as the most senior Master, he is constantly refining it.
The interview is unscripted and reveals the genuine feelings of a master who has practised this art from the age of 8 to the age of 70! Unusually for a Chinese Kung Fu Master, Master Tan's English is extremely good allowing him to communicate with real clarity. The quality of the video reflects its age but is of genuine historical interest.
More information on the Shuang Yang Art is available here:
Red Hot Chain Chi Kung.
Iain Armstrong demonstrates his iron shirt chi kung ability by rubbibg his hands on a red hot chain without sustaining any injury whatsoever. The ability to resist burning is is one of the most advanced levels of the iron shirt and should not be tried without expert supervision. The chain can be seen heating up in a brazier and then igniting a newspaper. The point of striking the chain on the ground is to remove sharp pieces of hot steel. Iain's hands can be seen at the end of the video - blackened with soot but completely unharmed.
EXTREME Washing in Broken Glass
Extreme tests. Washing in smashed mirror glass, axe slam to the stomach and a wooden pole smack to the groin are some of the tough tests Iron Shirt practitioner Iain Armstrong of Nam Yang Pugilistic Association showcases live at SENI the International Combat Sports Show in London UK.

Wang Xing Long Kung Fu School (2017) NEW VIDEO:
-
School's website -
9 long months ago I finally got up the balls to fly out to China and start training Kung Fu after 2 years of contemplation. My two big concerns were that there were too many options and how could I be sure that someone would actually pick me up from the airport once I landed in China. Needless to say, those problems were solved by Sifu Wang.
You know those kung fu movies, where they jump, kick and do the splits, most importantly where they break a brick. That was my fantasy and driving reason to come train. Leaving home was hard, but I had a dream to do badass things and I was going to get it done.
My first month or 3 here was incredibly humbling. Winter Training…. The hardest thing I’ve done in my life. Up at 6am in the freezing cold, 8 hours of training and a serious need for more sleep. With a body that’s constantly sore body, we always trained.
We’re extremely lucky to have Sifu Wang’s training us. Not only is he a total badass but he also enjoys learning about other cultures and as such speaks English quite well.
Learning my first form was… uhhhh challenging, but once your body adapts and you learn the basics, you pick up forms much faster. Overall, I learned Tong Bei, Qi Xing Quan, Yin Shou Gun, Dao Form along with 3 Tai Chi forms and Ba Duan Jin. Thankfully the school is relatively small so sifu gave me plenty of attention allowing me to learn so many forms.
Although it takes a lot of time to train each form, the results are worth it and you can earn your Strength of Body and Discipline of Mind. We all start off with a fist form, move onto the staff – the trademark weapon of a Shaolin warrior and if you’re here long enough, Sifu will teach you a weapon form that’s unique to your body characteristics
As far as the Sanda (kickboxing) goes, I couldn’t punch my way out of a paper bag. But sure enough, hard training paid off and now I can comfortably get out of paper bags.
Let's talk food. A lot of plates, pains, and pleasures have been shared around the table. The food is tailored for Westerner’s and is the most enjoyable Chinese food that I’ve eaten, however, after 9 months I sure do miss mom’s cooking.
Power stretching. Probably the scariest and most painful part of training… The first is the worst, but then you realize that it’s not as bad as it looks.
I had an amazing opportunity to travel through China and saw some incredible sights having visited and stayed in 10 cities. I saw the famed Terracotta Army, the Shaolin Temple, and the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival to name a few things.
A big shout out to all my kung fu friends for making this possible. The comradery we built through blood, sweat, and tears will stay with me forever. All the hard training was made much more fun and doable with your support.
Think about training kung fu? What are you waiting for, Sifu’s website has everything you need to get started.
Experience training in a Kung Fu school with me and possibly decide to come out and train here yourself.

The Lohan School of Shaolin specializes in the traditional and spiritual forms of Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi Praying Mantis, Seven Star Praying Mantis, Eighteen Classical Weapons, Traditional Lion Dancing, Five Animals / Five Family forms of Southern Fist, Internal Chi Gung and Tai Chi Ch'uan of the Yang and Chen families.
Lohan School of Shaolin History
From it's humble beginnings in 1994, with just a handful of students practicing on the street fronting Sifu Steve's home, to various halls in churches and dance studios, to China town Plaza and finally to it's current site in China Town, it can be said that the Lohan School has come a long way.
Today, there is a respectable number of students, both at the school and in their community outreach programs. The students perform at many community events, casinos and convention functions, and private parties not only to promote the Chinese culture, but also to fund raise for the school which are incentives for them. From one Chinese lion, they can now perform with as many as 7 lions, a 63′ dragon, several drums, and an array of flags, banners and weapons. The school has also developed several senior instructors who teach not only at the school, but also in the various athletic, recreation and community centers.
Besides the regular classes, the school has held several workshops and seminars with visiting Buddhist Priests, Tao Masters, Martial Arts Masters and Spiritual healers. They've also participated in martial events, not only in Las Vegas, but also in Mexico and California. The recently held a Tai Chi retreat in Maui, Hawaii, and plan to do many more in the future.
The school also offers special classes in spiritual and herbal healing, and combines different cultural teachings through music and dance classes.
Northern Shaolin History
The History of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu dates back to the year 495 A.D., when the Shaolin Buddhist Monastery was built in Honan province in Northern China honoring the buddhist monk who brought Buddhism to China. The Monk's name was Badra. In order to defend the temple from attack, the monks developed a martial art system known as Ch'uan (Fist Method). Ch'uan Fa combined Buddhist meditative practices with self defense techniques.
Northern Shaolin Kung Fu emphasizes extension in striking, with deep stances and dynamic kicking methods. The northern styles develop flexibility, strength, coordination, balance, and agility. The Theory of Northern Shaolin is that power is developed through the rigorous training of extended postures, which could be condensed into shorter strikes when used in fighting. Northern training also instills a great amount of versatility in movement and technique.
At the Lohan School we teach the traditional Northern style of Shaolin. This is the largest of the northern lineages taught today, and is taught in a systematic fashion.
Our Goals
1.To be concerned with the revival of the original concepts of Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi Ch'uan.
2.To demonstrate that these concepts are applicable in the modern world.
3.To ensure Tai Chi Ch'uan and Shaolin Kung Fu have been a place in history and in modern society.
4. To maintain the spirit of rediscovery and reawakening of ideas, ideals, and natural principals.
5. To offer an alternative way of life, without drugs, medications, or artificial stimulations.
4. To educate others to be healthy and fit, and to be in touch with themselves, others, and the environment.
5. The state of the art should be maintained, developed, perpetuated and shared with those who seek health and fitness naturally and hollistically.

Get Naked With Eugene Tay: The True Meaning of Kung Fu
The ancient art of Kung Fu has been popularised by movies and many of us grew up enamoured with the gravity defying, super human feats of that these kung fu masters portray. It usually involves a weak protagonist going through gruelling training before achieving greatness. That's a story that we can all connect with. So, how much of what we know of Kung Fu is really indeed Kung Fu?
I traveled 146km North of Chiang Mai, round 762 turns along dangerous and narrow roads, to visit a humble kung fu training school situated on the mountain top of Pai. That's where I met Master Dave from Nam Yang Kung Fu Retreat who shared the secrets of Kung Fu reverse breathing technique, energy flow and how we can keep our chi balanced to beat stress.
