Namba is a district of Osaka, Japan. It is located in Chūō and Naniwa wards. Namba is regarded as the center of so-called Minami area of Osaka. Its name is one of variations on the former name of Osaka, Naniwa.
Dōtonbori or Dōtombori is one of the principal tourist destinations in Osaka, Japan, running along the Dōtonbori canal from Dōtonboribashi Bridge to Nipponbashi Bridge in the Namba district of the city's Chuo ward.
Osaka (Japanese: 大阪市 Hepburn: Ōsaka-shi, pronounced [oːsakaɕi]; commonly just 大阪, Ōsaka [oːsaka] (About this soundlisten)) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants.
Osaka was traditionally considered Japan's economic hub. By the Kofun period (300–538) it had developed into an important regional port, and in the 7th and 8th centuries it served briefly as the imperial capital. Osaka continued to flourish during the Edo period (1603–1867) and became known as a center of Japanese culture. Following the Meiji Restoration, Osaka greatly expanded in size and underwent rapid industrialization. In 1889, Osaka was officially established as a municipality.
Today's Osaka is a major financial center of Japan. It is home to the Osaka Securities Exchange and the multinational electronics corporation Panasonic. Landmarks in Osaka include Osaka Castle and Shitennō-ji.
Prehistory to the Kofun period
Some of the earliest signs of human habitation in the Osaka area at the Morinomiya ruins (森ノ宮遺跡 Morinomiya iseki) comprise shell mounds, sea oysters and buried human skeletons from the 6th–5th centuries BC. It is believed[by whom?] that what is today the Uehonmachi area consisted of a peninsular land with an inland sea in the east. During the Yayoi period, permanent habitation on the plains grew as rice farming became popular.[5]
By the Kofun period, Osaka developed into a hub port connecting the region to the western part of Japan. The large numbers of increasingly larger tomb mounds found in the plains of Osaka are seen as evidence of political-power concentration, leading to the formation of a state.[5][6]
Asuka and Nara period
The Kojiki records that during 390–430 AD there was an imperial palace located at Osumi, in what is present day Higashiyodogawa ward, but it may have been a secondary imperial residence rather than a capital.[7]
In 645, Emperor Kōtoku built his Naniwa Nagara-Toyosaki Palace in what is now Osaka,[8] making it the capital of Japan. The city now known as Osaka was at this time referred to as Naniwa, and this name and derivations of it are still in use for districts in central Osaka such as Naniwa (浪速) and Namba (難波).[9] Although the capital was moved to Asuka (in Nara Prefecture today) in 655, Naniwa remained a vital connection, by land and sea, between Yamato (modern day Nara Prefecture), Korea, and China.[5][10]
Naniwa was declared the capital again in 744 by order of Emperor Shōmu, and remained so until 745, when the Imperial Court moved back to Heijō-kyō (now Nara). By the end of the Nara period, Naniwa's seaport roles had been gradually taken over by neighboring areas, but it remained a lively center of river, channel, and land transportation between Heian-kyō (Kyoto today) and other destinations.
Heian to Edo period
Osaka castle
In 1496, Jōdo Shinshū Buddhists established their headquarters in the heavily fortified Ishiyama Hongan-ji, located directly on the site of the old Naniwa Imperial Palace. Oda Nobunaga began a decade-long siege campaign on the temple in 1570 which ultimately resulted in the surrender of the monks and subsequent razing of the temple. Toyotomi Hideyoshi constructed Osaka Castle in its place in 1583.[11]
Osaka was long considered Japan's primary economic center,[12] with a large percentage of the population belonging to the merchant class (see Four divisions of society). Over the course of the Edo period (1603–1867), Osaka grew into one of Japan's major cities and returned to its ancient role as a lively and important port. Its popular culture[13] was closely related to ukiyo-e depictions of life in Edo. By 1780, Osaka had cultivated a vibrant arts culture, as typified by its famous Kabuki and Bunraku theaters.[14]

Japan Vlog - Back to Osaka - Temmabashi · 大阪
May 2016
Video recorded in the beginning of May, 2016. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo back to Osaka! This time we stayed in an apartment just across the river from Temmabashi station.
——
Cafe Toki Ona (カフェトキオナ
Right next to our apartment was this lovely little café with delicious tea, coffee and cheesecake.
River Cafe - Temmabashi
And just across the river from our apartment, in the concourse of the Keihan Railway Station, we wandered into this little restaurant.
Kyū-Yodo River - Ōkawa (大川).
Our apartment was located very close to this river, which made for many lovely walks. The name Kyū-Yodo River is a geological name, locally it is called by subdivision names. Ōkawa is the name for the section closest to where we stayed, from the Kema Lock to the Tenjin-bashi bridge. The Japanese name is Ōkawa (大川).

Attack on Osaka - Shrekt | Japan Ep. 1 | Universal Studios Japan | Himeji Castle | Kintai Bridge
There are two versions of this video because the first one with the non midi version of the song was blocked in the US. Good stuff.
Some highlights from our first week in Japan.
If you have any questions about what you saw please don't hesitate to ask!
The midi used:
Putting in timestamps for everything would be a little crazy but some locations and places in the videos are as follows:
►The Kintai Bridge (錦帯橋 Kintai-kyō) is a historical wooden arch bridge, in the city of Iwakuni, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
►Himeji Castle (姫路城 Himeji-jō) is a hilltop Japanese castle complex located in Himeji, in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 buildings with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. The castle is frequently known as Hakuro-jō or Shirasagi-jō (White Egret Castle or White Heron Castle) because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
►Universal Studios Japan (ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン Yunibāsaru Sutajio Japan), located in Osaka, is one of four Universal Studios theme parks.
►The Naruto whirlpools (鳴門の渦潮 Naruto no Uzushio) are tidal whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, a channel between Naruto in Tokushima and Awaji Island in Hyōgo, Japan.
►Osaka (大阪市 Ōsaka-shi) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants.
►Nipponbashi (日本橋) is a shopping district of Naniwa Ward, Osaka, Japan. The area is centered along Sakaisuji Avenue, extending from the Ebisu-chō Interchange of the Hanshin Expressway in the south, to Nansan-dōri (just east of Nankai Namba Station) in the north. Known colloquially as Den-Den Town, Nipponbashi is known for its many shops which specialize in furniture, tools, and otaku interests such as electronics, animation, manga, and collectibles. Nipponbashi is often compared to Akihabara Electric Town, its equivalent (in terms of focus) in Tokyo.
►Dōtonbori or Dōtombori (道頓堀) is one of the principal tourist destinations in Osaka, Japan, running along the Dōtonbori canal from Dōtonboribashi Bridge to Nipponbashi Bridge in the Namba district of the city's Chuo ward. Historically a theater district, it is now a popular nightlife and entertainment area characterized by its eccentric atmosphere and large illuminated signboards.

OSAKA INFO :
難波橋 | Nanba Bridge
A bridge with a total length of approx. 190 m, along Sakai-suji Avenue, spanning the Tosabori River, Nakanoshima Park and Dojima River. This bridge features four stone statues of brave lions, located at its north and south ends, so it is commonly called the Lion Bridge. The pairs of lions, one with mouth open and the other with mouth closed, are called Ah-Un Lions. In the Edo era, Naniwa Bridge was a wooden bridge along Naniwabashi-suji Avenue (located west of Sakai-suji Avenue), connecting Hinoue Town in the north and Kitahama 1-chome in the south. The bridge, with a total length of approx. 207 m and width of approx. 5.7 m, was under the direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate Government. Since the bridge was arched, the view from the bridge was splendid, overlooking 16 nearby bridges and the mountains in the distance. The bridge was a popular spot for viewing fireworks and enjoying the cool of the evening in summer. In 1912, when the municipal electric railway of the Sakaisuji Line was extended from Kitahama to Tenjinbashi 6-chome in the north, the bridge was relocated to its current location. The bridge, which features classical lampposts and grand stone steps leading to Nakanoshima Park, was designed excellently to harmonize with its surrounding urban landscape. Many historic buildings are located nearby, including Osaka Securities Exchange.
