Dance in Drum Tower Square in Nanjing China near Gulou Subway station 12 Sep 2012
Was on my way back to the hotel Intercontinental in Nanjing in the evening and came to a park where there was dancing for everyone who wanted to dance.
The park is called Drum Tower Square and is across the street as seen from the hotel.
They danced Line Dance in one place and something like Tango and Bug on the paved surface below.
Tested to invite up and dance a little and it went pretty well.
Everyone was happy and nice but it was a bit hard to make oneself understood because no one spoke English except for a few words.
This is some of the films that I took with the the system camera (Nikon D7000).
Unfortunately, it was almost no light so the movies were dark and grainy.
Sometimes, the area was highlighted by a giant screen on the wall behind which showed advertising.

Dancing in Nanjing Drum Tower Square Park - Different Cultures & Minorities like Uyghurs un China ????
This video was recorded in the summer of 2019 in Nanjing City. The Drum Tower of Nanjing (simplified Chinese: 南京鼓楼; traditional Chinese: 南京鼓樓; pinyin: Nánjīng gǔlóu) on Gulou Mountain in the Gulou District of downtown Nanjing, was first built in the 15th year of the reign of Hongwu, of the Ming Dynasty (1382 AD).
The Drum Tower, which is an important part of Drum Tower Park, is 44 meters long, 22 meters wide and 30 meters high. Its shape is like a Chinese traditional city gate, with a square foundation pedestal made of stone. In the pedestal, there are three arch gateways, one larger in the middle and two smaller on the side. In the side gateways, there are four side-rooms, which were guarded by the imperial drumming officers with hundreds of soldiers during the ancient dynasty. On the pedestal is a red two-story watch tower, made of wood and bricks, which was a sacred place to hold some important ceremonies, such as giving a correct time, welcoming honorable guests, offering sacrifices to the god, and others.

The city is also one of the fifteen sub-provincial cities in the People's Republic of China's administrative structure, enjoying jurisdictional and economic autonomy only slightly less than that of a province. Nanjing has been ranked seventh in the evaluation of Cities with Strongest Comprehensive Strength issued by the National Statistics Bureau, and second in the evaluation of cities with most sustainable development potential in the Yangtze River Delta. It has also been awarded the title of 2008 Habitat Scroll of Honor of China, Special UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award and National Civilized City.
Nanjing has many high-quality universities and research institutes, with the number of universities listed in 100 National Key Universities ranking third, including Nanjing University which has a long history and is among the world top 10 universities ranked by Nature Index. Nanjing, one of the nation's most important cities for over a thousand years, is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It has been one of the world's largest cities, enjoying peace and prosperity despite wars and disasters. Nanjing served as the capital of Eastern Wu (229–280), one of the three major states in the Three Kingdoms period; the Eastern Jin and each of the Southern dynasties (Liu Song, Southern Qi, Liang and Chen), which successively ruled southern China from 317–589; the Southern Tang (937–75), one of the Ten Kingdoms; the Ming dynasty when, for the first time, all of China was ruled from the city (1368–1421); and the Republic of China (1927–37, 1946–49) prior to its flight to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War. The city also served as the seat of the rebel Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1853–64) and the Japanese puppet regime of Wang Jingwei (1940–45) during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It suffered severe atrocities in both conflicts, including the Nanjing Massacre.
Nanjing has served as the capital city of Jiangsu province since the establishment of the People's Republic of China. It has many important heritage sites, including the Presidential Palace and Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Nanjing is famous for human historical landscapes, mountains and waters such as Fuzimiao, Ming Palace, Chaotian Palace, Porcelain Tower, Drum Tower, Stone City, City Wall, Qinhuai River, Xuanwu Lake and Purple Mountain. The Drum Tower of Xi'an in Shaanxi province of China
The Drum Tower of Xi'an (西安鼓楼), located in the heart of Xi'an in Shaanxi province of China, along with the Bell Tower is a symbol of the city. Erected in 1380 during the early Ming Dynasty, it stands towering above the city center and offers incredible view of Xi'an.
The Drum Tower got its name from the huge drum located within the building. In contrast to the Bell Tower, where bell was stricken at dawn, drum was beat at sunset to indicate the end of the day.

The Drum Tower of Beijing, or Gulou (Chinese: 鼓楼; pinyin: Gǔlóu), is situated at the northern end of the central axis of the Inner City to the north of Di'anmen Street. Originally built for musical reasons, it was later used to announce the time and is now a tourist attraction.
The Bell Tower of Beijing, or Zhonglou (Chinese: 钟楼; pinyin: Zhōnglóu), stands closely behind the drum tower. Together, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower have panoramic views over central Beijing and before the modern era, they both dominated Beijing's ancient skyline.
Bells and drums were musical instruments in ancient China. Later they were used by government and communities to announce the time. The Bell and Drum towers were central to official timekeeping in China in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
The Bell and Drum Towers continued to function as the official timepiece of Beijing until 1924, when the Beijing Coup led to the expulsion of Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, from the Forbidden City, and the adoption of western-styled clockwork for official time-keeping.
The Drum Tower was built in 1272 during the reign of Kublai Khan, at which time it stood at the very heart of the Yuan capital Dadu. At that time it was known as the Tower of Orderly Administration (Qizhenglou). In 1420, under the Yongle Emperor of the Ming dynasty, the building was reconstructed to the east of the original site and in 1800 under the Jiaqing Emperor of the Qing dynasty, large-scale renovations were carried out. Following the Beijing Coup in 1924, Feng Yuxiang removed the official status of the towers, replacing them with western time-keeping methods, and renamed the building Mingchilou, or the tower of clarifying shame. Objects related to the Eight-Nation Alliance's invasion of Beijing and later the May 30 Massacre of 1925 were put on display, turning the towers into a museum. The upper story of the building currently serves as the People's Cultural Hall of the East City District.
In the 1980s, after much repair, the Bell and Drum Towers were opened to tourists.
The Drum Tower is a two-story building made of wood with a height of 47 metres (154 ft). In[when?] the upper story of the building housed 24 drums, of which only one survives. New drums had been build to replace them. Nearby stands the Bell Tower, a 33-metre-high (108 ft) edifice with gray walls and a green glazed roof.
China Vlog: We Go Exploring in Beijing (Drum and Bell Towers & DUMPLINGS) (CC)
On our first day in Beijing, we found the Drum and Bell Towers, ate dumplings for lunch at a nearby restaurant, and had a lovely time of it. Can't believe we've begun our China adventure!

The Backdrop: We spent May-July in China (eight weeks in total). For the first month, I co-led a study abroad trip that brought sixteen college students to the Nanjing University of Science and Technology to study beginning Chinese. I also co-taught a Travel Writing class. As part of that trip, we went to Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Yellow Mountain, and Slender West Lake. Once the students left for home, my husband Jesse and I traveled around China for a few more weeks. Our travels brought us to Xi'An, Chengdu, Leshan, Jiuzhaigou, Yangshuo, and Hong Kong. It was a life-changing adventure!
