Travellogue Part 1: Asheville NC to Bryson City NC 012813
One of the most beautiful places I've had the opportunity to visit and enjoy were the Appalachian Mountains of NC. I've spent many a free weekend up here! I hope you too, will also enjoy the vistas seen at 6,500ft as we depart Asheville, NC for Bryson City, NC. NC has 40 peaks that are over 6,000 ft. Today's ride in a Robinson R22 Beta II will take us due west over some of the lesser ones, but others will be seen in the horizons as we progress westward torward our destination.
10 minutes into our trip we will pass over the Blue Ridge Parkway; a 469 mile highway through the Appalachian Mountains. Asheville essentially is the halfway point on this road that runs from the NE to the SW. This road construction project started in 1935 under President Roosevelt and was finally finished 52 years later with the completion of the Linneville Viaduct. Immediately after crossing the BPW we will see Pisgah Mountain; all 5721 feet of it as we pass by its shoulder. On top you will see the highest TV/Radio tower east of the Missippi River.
While you are enjoying the views, note that south of here (left side) is SC beyond the mountains; and east of here (behind us!) is the rest of the state of NC. Summer time temperatures here in the mountains are 20F cooler than out on the Piedmont of either state. This place sees a lot of people in the summer! My favorite thing to do then, was drive my 1975 MGB over these mountains. Top down, sunny day and cruisin...
24 minutes into our trip, look out the right side and see Eagle Rock (the double hilltop) covered in snow pass by. On the far side, and hidden by the mountain is the city Maggie Valley; named after the postman's daughter who saw the mail get here when they were fortunate to see it once a week... At 25 minutes out the left side we will pass Sylva, NC and at 25:29 we will zoom in to see Clingman's Dome. Clingmans Dome (or Clingman's Dome) is a mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. At an elevation of 6,643 feet (2,025 m), it is the highest mountain in the Smokies, the highest point in the state of Tennessee, and the highest point along the 2,174-mile (3,499 km) Appalachian Trail.
Our destination today, Bryson City, is the home of The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. If you ever chance to be there, I would strongly reccommend this ride and their museum.
As we start to descend passing Slyva, NC; note the lake on the horizon. This is Fontana Lake is a reservoir impounded by Fontana Dam on the Little Tennessee River located in Graham and Swain counties in North Carolina. The lake forms part of the southern border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the northern border of part of the Nantahala National Forest. Depending on water levels, the lake is about 17 miles (27 km) long. The eastern end is the Tuckasegee River near Bryson City.[1] The lake has many inlets into coves and many islands formed from former mountain peaks, especially near the eastern end. As with most dam-impounded lakes, the steep banks are exposed when water levels are low. Many towns were submerged shortly after the creation of Fontana Lake, such as Proctor and Judson. It is also part of the Tennesee River Valley Watershed. All waters flow westward from here through the dam. Note, it was near here, in Charleston, TN; that the Trail of Tears started to carry the Cherokee Nation to Oklahoma in 1832; after the decision by then President Andrew Jackson to further enforce the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation, is headquarterd just north of Bryson City, in Cherokee, NC.

MOUNTAIN CABIN TOUR ( BOONE , NC ) (Peace of Mind)
Hey everyone ! Here is a tour of the cabin we stayed in last weekend in Boone, NC. This cabin is beautiful, easy to get too, and right in the middle of Boone , Blowing Rock, and close to Banner Elk as well. We were able to escape the heat in the mountains because it was about 10/15 degrees cooler. And we got to visit the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains, all around had an amazing weekend!

Episode #215 - Blowing Rock Brewing - Legacy Series
Today we are drinking three beers out of the Blowing Rock Brewing Company of Blowing Rock. Their Legacy series offers us their flagship brews, three of which we are sampling today - the Blowing Rock High Country Ale, the Blowing Rock IPA and the Blowing Rock Mountain Shadow Black IPA. Blowing Rock Brewing Company began with a single idea — to create beer that captured the finest qualities of the High Country. They believe in the clean mountain water, unique ingredients, and local community. In 2013, Blowing Rock Brewing Company opened their first brewery in the heart of historic Blowing Rock and their brews are now being distributed to retailers and restaurants statewide in six-pack cans, kegs and growers. In 2014, they opened an additional state-of-the-art brewery in Hickory, which will offer 6,000 renovated square feet of brewery and restaurant space.

Mountain High BBQ Festival and Car Show 2015- Franklin, NC
There were some serious BBQ teams at the festival. They gave away over $11,000 in cash and awards! Thousands of spectators came to see them BBQ and try some of the tasty ribs, chicken, brisket and pulled pork. The car show was also a huge success. With so many cars, we did a two part video featuring just them.
