EDGAR 2 robot at NTU Chinese Heritage Centre
The EDGAR-2 social robot was at the NTU Chinese Heritage Centre on the 11th of June to meet his fans. He did a story telling session based on a Chinese idiom. This was part of the Children's Season 2016 activities, organized by the National Heritage Board of Singapore.

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall welcomed 180,000 visitors since re-opening - 23Feb2013
SINGAPORE: 180,000 visitors have entered the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall since its refurbishment and re-opening in October 2011.
The museum celebrates its 111th anniversary this year by intensifying outreach efforts with more programmes.
It is also asking people with historical artefacts to contribute to the attraction's exhibits.
As far as museums go, the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall may not be Singapore's most well-known but it is certainly one of the most storied.
This place has seen the country through some of its most troubled times.
Some of the historical artefacts on show came from the family of Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
Mr Teo said: This is a community heritage institution managed by the National Heritage Board and the Memorial Hall serves as a useful reminder for the community to learn about our social and cultural history and heritage, and to provide Singaporeans with an understanding of our multicultural roots.
The museum hopes more people can make contributions to help showcase Singapore's links to the revolution that ended China's last imperial dynasty, said Shaun Phua, General Manager of the Memorial Hall.
We know that there are many rare materials pertaining to the 1911 Revolution that are kept in private hands of many Singaporeans. If they have these items, perhaps they can consider donating it to the museum for long-term preservation and of course, to extend these materials to, make it accessible for the members of the public, said Mr Phua.
With the addition of special roving exhibitions and seminars on the Chinese Revolution, the museum hopes to extend its reach beyond the 90,000 visitors seen in 2012.
It has trained over 150 students since 2011 as heritage ambassadors.
The 111th anniversary celebrations of the national monument will span all the way till December 2013.

The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall’s permanent galleries were enhanced with multimedia features that include a hologram presentation of Dr Sun Yat Sen. Two large-scale projection-mapping videos were also developed by Digimagic to complement permanent exhibition displays at the museum. While one provided visual enhancement to support written materials, the other highlighted historic events on the surface of a newspaper montage wall.

From Nanyang to Modern: Singapore Painting from the 1950s to the 1970s (Full Version)
The 1950s to 1970s was a period where Singapore painting enjoyed unprecedented success in terms of its number of practitioners, reception through exhibitions and the emergence of movements and styles that were devoted to the craft.
Art historian Jeffrey Say highlighted some of the competing strands and tendencies of painting from this period, such as the Nanyang style, abstraction, social realism and watercolour and ink.

About the Speaker
Besides developing its art history programmes, Jeffrey Say has been teaching at LASALLE College of the Arts since 1997. In 2009, he designed the first Masters programme to focus on Asian modern and contemporary art histories. He is currently its programme leader.
As an art historian, Jeffrey carried out pioneering research by undertaking the first extensive study of the history of sculpture in pre-and post-war Singapore. In his professional capacity, Jeffrey has curated visual arts exhibitions and contributed essays to both local and overseas exhibition catalogues.
He frequently gives talks on art history at museums, universities and galleries and conducts short courses in art history which are extremely popular.

Pasir Ris residents visited its Open House on 23rd February 2013 !
A very impressive long bronze wall mural (possibly Singapore's longest bronze mural) took 5 years to build. Its initial 25m panel shows Singapore as a fishing village during 1840s. Then the second, third and final panels were added which show different racial groups and Japanese invasion in 1941. So the total length of the wall mural becomes 60m upon completion. Its height is 2m.

Nanyang Influence - A Nation's Artistic Journey

Singapore was an escape for many immigrants seeking new pastures. This vast influx of Chinese immigrants and the emergence of Nanyang style was in response to the separation of Chinese nationalism and Southeast Asian regionalism.This unique style unites teachings from Western schools of Paris and Chinese painting traditions, depicting local or Southeast Asian subject matters.
The exhibition celebrates the achievements of a group of influential artists from our shores. Amongst them are our very own Cultural Medallion recipients and important painters. These works were specifically chosen to reflect their individualistic techniques and flair.
Lastly, the exhibition also aims to promote and encourage visitors' appreciation for homegrown and regional artistic talents.
