Tennesse: Nashville
Nashville is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee.
Named for Francis Nash, a general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in 1779.
Nashville is home to numerous colleges and universities, such as Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University.
In 1868, a few years after the Civil War, the Nashville chapter of the Ku Klux Klan was founded by Confederate veteran John W. Morton. Chapters of this secret insurgent group formed throughout the state and the South.
On April 30, 1892, Ephraim Grizzard, an African-American man, was lynched in a spectacle murder in front of a white mob of 10,000 in Nashville. His lynching was described by journalist Ida B. Wells as: A naked, bloody example of the blood-thirstiness of the nineteenth century civilization of the Athens of the South.
By the turn of the century, Nashville had become the cradle of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy. The first chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was founded here, and the Confederate Veteran magazine was published here. Most guardians of the Lost Cause lived Downtown or in the West End, near Centennial Park.
In 1960 Tennessee still had racial segregation of public facilities, including lunch counters and department store fitting rooms.
In 1979, the Ku Klux Klan burnt crosses outside two African-American sites in Nashville, including the city headquarters of the NAACP.
Since the 1970s, the city and county have undergone tremendous growth, particularly during the economic boom of the 1990s.
Nissan Stadium (formerly Adelphia Coliseum and LP Field) was built after the National Football League's (NFL) Houston Oilers agreed to move to the city in 1995.
In 1997, Nashville was awarded a National Hockey League expansion team; this was named the Nashville Predators.
In 2017, Nashville's economy was deemed the third fastest-growing in the nation.
Nashville's downtown area features a diverse assortment of entertainment, dining, cultural and architectural attractions. The Broadway and 2nd Avenue areas feature entertainment venues, night clubs and an assortment of restaurants. North of Broadway lie Nashville's central business district, Legislative Plaza, Capitol Hill and the Tennessee Bicentennial Mall. Cultural and architectural attractions can be found throughout the city.
As the city's name itself is a metonym for the country music industry, many popular tourist attractions involve country music, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Belcourt Theatre, and Ryman Auditorium. The Ryman was home to the Grand Ole Opry until 1974 when the show moved to the Grand Ole Opry House, 9 miles (14 km) east of downtown.
Each June, the CMA Music Festival (formerly known as Fan Fair) brings thousands of country fans to the city. The Tennessee State Fair is also held annually in September.
The Contemporary Christian music industry is based along Nashville's Music Row.
Downtown Fun in Nashville TN
Downtown Nashville is so much fun. There's music everywhere. On the night we visited, Sting was playing at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, the Tedeschi Trucks Band played at the Ryman, and then there's clubs along Broadway and 2nd Ave. The local Nashville talent is amazing. If you're on a budget, most clubs offer no cover late afternoons, just keep a drink on the table and remember to tip the band for their hard work to entertain. If you have more to spend, then hit the Grand Ole Opry or one of the today's larger acts is sure to hit Nashville during your stay. Here's a tip. If your don't want to drive downtown and look for parking, then call Music City Shuttle. They service most of the Nashville RV campgrounds. Super friendly with pick up and drop off on the hour. Joan and I always plan a couple nights downtown and have never been disappointed.
If you want to see what's offered in the area, just Google Nashville downtown clubs.

Two Rivers Campground - Nashville TN
#ilovervlife #nashvillecampgrounds #nashvillecamping We love coming to Nashville TN and have done so since we started RV travel 5 years ago. There is so much to see and do. We've tried several campgrounds in the area, but our favorites has been Two Rivers Campground located off Music Valley Dr. Two Rivers is a very nice, well maintained campground offering full hook-up sites up to 50 amp electric, water, sewer, cable and WiFi. Most have a clear shot for satellite TV and very good cellular coverage for all the major carriers. They also have a very nice bath house, a large coin laundry, pool and during the warmer month, a small stage where various music entertainers perform.
One of the benefits of Two Rivers is the close proximity to great Nashville entertainment. You're minutes from the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Palace, Back Stage at the Opry, dinner theaters and more. The Gaylord Hotel and Opry Mills Mall is minutes away with entertainment, restaurants, shopping, Madame Tussauds, Dave and Busters and so much more.
Another great benefit is the shuttle to downtown. For $10 a person, roughly the cost of parking, the shuttle will pick up at the campground office, drop off one block from the Broadway night life and pick up every hour on the hour until 2AM. Bargain, safe and a great way to go downtown for all the fun and music with none of the hassle.
For more information about Two Rivers Campground, visit their website at
Check out our RV Accessories where we have listed a wide range of products from essential items to those nice to have RV products to make RV life more enjoyable. Every item listed is being used or has been used by Joan and I as we've traveled across the country in our RV.

GRAND OLE OPRY THE FAMOUS RYMAN AUDITORIUM NASHVILLE TENNESSEE
The Grand Ole Opry was originally known as the WSM Barn Dance, and its inaugural broadcast was made from that station's small fifth floor Studio A on November 28, 1925. Uncle Jimmy Thompson, who claimed he could fiddle the bugs off tater vine, was the initial performer, and the cast included Dr. Humphrey Bate and his daughter Alcyone, the Crook Brothers, and Kirk McGee.
By the time the show moved to Studio B of WSM, still in the National Life & Accident Insurance Building at 7th Avenue North and Union Street, its name had been changed from the WSM Barn Dance to the Grand Ole Opry.
The change reportedly came about in an accidental way, the result of an ad lib by announcer George D. Hay, who called himself The Solom Old Judge, and who had originated the National Barn Dance on WLS in Chicago in 1924. Apparently, the WSM Barn Dance came on the air immediately after a broadcast of the NBC Music Appreciation Hour, conducted by Dr. Walter Damrosch. Hay opened the program by saying: For the past hour, you have been listening to Grand Opera. Now we will present Grand Ole Opry!
The name stuck, and in succeeding years, as the live audience grew, the program moved, first to a newly built studio that accommodated about 500, then to the Hillsboro Theatre, and East Nashville Tabernacle, and later to the auditorium of the war memorial, which seated about 1,200. Two years after the Opry became a network show, with a half hour broadcast coast to coast, it moved to the famous Ryman Auditorium where it remained until 1974.
With the opening of Opryland USA, and amusement park dedicated by President Nixon on March 16, 1974, the Opry moved into a new $15 million theatre, the largest broadcasting studio in the world, with a seating capacity of 4,400.
RYMAN AUDITORIUM
The home of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. For over thirty years, the auditorium began as the Union Gospel Tabernacle. It was built by a roistering riverboat captain, who came originally to scoff and disrupt services conducted in downtown Nashville by Rev. Sam Jones.
The visit in 1885 resulted in such a thorough conversion that Captain Ryman began financing the building of the Tabernacle in 1889. After his death, the Union Gospel Tabernacle was renamed the Ryman Auditorium at the suggestion of the Rev. Jones.
Recognized as one of the best concert halls in the south, with almost perfect acoustics, the the auditorium continues to be used by many performers for many occasions; but, it remains the mother church of Country music, its well-worn stage bearing the historic footprints of all the Country music stars of the forties, fifties, sixties, and seventies. The Ryman remains at 116 5th Avenue North.
