Inside National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum - Cooperstown, New York
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is an American history museum and hall of fame, located in Cooperstown, New York, and operated by private interests. It serves as the central point for the study of the history of baseball in the United States and beyond, displays baseball-related artifacts and exhibits, and honors those who have excelled in playing, managing, and serving the sport. The Hall's motto is Preserving History, Honoring Excellence, Connecting Generations.
The word Cooperstown is often used as shorthand (or a metonym) for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, similarly to Canton for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
The Hall of Fame was established in 1939 by Stephen Carlton Clark, the owner of a local hotel. Clark had sought to bring tourists to a city hurt by the Great Depression, which reduced the local tourist trade, and Prohibition, which devastated the local hops industry. A new building was constructed, and the Hall of Fame was dedicated on June 12, 1939. (Clark's granddaughter, Jane Forbes Clark, is the current chairman of the Board of Directors.)

Obama Heads To Baseball Hall Of Fame
President Obama plans to promote summer tourism this week via another summer tradition: Baseball. Obama travels Thursday to Cooperstown, New York to give a tourism speech at the well-visited Baseball Hall of Fame. The timing of the president's visit is great for the Baseball Hall of Fame. The museum, which opened in 1939, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is an American museum and hall of fame in Cooperstown, New York. It is the central point for the study of the history of baseball in the United States and beyond, the display of baseball-related artifacts and exhibits, and the honoring of persons who have excelled in playing, managing, and serving the sport. Elections commenced in 1936 for the selection of worthy individuals to be honored by induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame, though the first induction ceremonies were not held until the Hall opened in 1939. Through the elections for 2015, a total of 310 individuals have been inducted, including 215 former major league players, 28 executives, 35 Negro leaguers, 22 managers, and 10 umpires. Each is listed along with his primary position; that is, the position or role in which the player made his greatest contribution to baseball, according to the Hall of Fame.
According to the current rules, players must have at least 10 years of major league experience to be eligible for induction. In addition, they must be retired for at least 5 years if living, or deceased for at least 6 months. Players meeting these qualifications must pass through a screening committee, and are then voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Each writer may vote for up to 10 players; to be admitted into the Hall of Fame, a player must be approved by 75% of those casting ballots. Players receiving less than 5% approval are removed from future BBWAA ballots. The current rules, most recently revised in July 2010, allow that all individuals eligible for induction but not for the BBWAA ballotplayers who have not been approved by the BBWAA election process within 20 years of their retirement, umpires, managers, pioneers, and executivesmay be considered by the Veterans Committee in every third year, based on the era in which each individual candidate made his greatest contribution to the sport. On a few occasions, exceptions have been made to the guidelines in place at the time: Roberto Clemente was elected shortly after his death in 1972; Lou Gehrig was elected in 1939 following his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; and Addie Joss was elected in 1978 although he completed only nine seasons before his death.
Between 1971 and 1977, nine players from the Negro Leagues were inducted by a special Negro Leagues Committee, which was given the task of identifying worthy players who played in the Negro Leagues prior to the breaking of baseball's color line. Since 1977, players from the Negro Leagues have been considered by the Veterans Committee, and nine more individuals have been approved by that body. In 2005, the Hall announced the formation of a Committee on African-American Baseball, which held a 2006 election for eligible figures from the Negro Leagues and earlier 19th-century teams; seventeen additional Negro League figures were chosen in that election, including executive Effa Manley, the first woman inducted.

Larry Doby 1998 Hall of Fame Induction Speech
Lawrence Eugene Doby (December 13, 1923 – June 18, 2003) was an American professional baseball player in the Negro leagues and Major League Baseball (MLB) who was the second black player to break baseball's color barrier. A native of Camden, South Carolina and three-sport all-state athlete while in high school in Paterson, New Jersey, Doby accepted a basketball scholarship from Long Island University. At 17 years of age, he began professionally playing baseball with the Newark Eagles as the team's second basemen. Doby joined the United States Navy during World War II. His military service complete, Doby returned to baseball in 1946, and along with teammate Monte Irvin, helped the Eagles win the Negro League World Series.
In July 1947, Doby joined Jackie Robinson in breaking the MLB color barrier as he became the first black player to integrate the American League (AL) when he signed a contract to play with Bill Veeck's Cleveland Indians. Doby was the first player to go directly to the majors from the Negro leagues. A seven-time All-Star center fielder, Doby and teammate Satchel Paige were the first African-American players to win a World Series championship when the Indians won in 1948. He helped the Indians win a franchise-record 111 games and the AL pennant in 1954, finished second in the AL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award voting and was the AL's RBI leader and home run champion. He went on to play for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Chunichi Dragons before his retirement as a player in 1962.

Martin Van Buren National Historic Site - Beautiful Upstate New York
Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is is located 20 miles south of Albany, New York, and two miles south of the village of Kinderhook, New York. The National Historic Site preserves the estate and thirty-six room mansion of Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States. Van Buren purchased the estate, which he named Lindenwald, in 1839 during his one term as President and it became his home and farm during his retirement (wikipedia).
With me were my wife and son as we visited this site in the summer of 2018. Other stops on this trip were Saratoga, Fort Stanwix and Cooperstown (the Baseball Hall of Fame).

Cooperstown All Star Village Homerun #1 over the GREEN MONSTER by Xavier 'X-Man Cruz 2014
Although the fields are small at All Star Village, this homerun went a country mile. Approx. 300ft!!!
Xavier M. Cruz, 5'8, 130lbs, OF/P/3B Travel Organizations, played for: L.I. Indians, C.P. Stars & L.I. Whalers.
Xavier began playing travel baseball in 2009 at the age of 8. He played on the L.I. Indians where he was the #1 starting pitcher, starting 3rd baseman and batted clean-up.
After playing for the L.I. Indians, he moved on to play for one of NYC's premier travel baseball organizations, the C.P. Stars (2010-2013). Being the new kid on the roster, Xavier had to learn how to play the outfield and batted last in the line-up for his entire first year. Needless to say, it was a year of rebuilding his confidence and trying to fit in. He went on to win numerous trophies for 1st place finishes in many local and out of state tournaments. The most memorable was winning back to back championships at Ripken in Aberdeen, MD. Xavier's culmination to being a valuable player and power hitter came in 2012, when the C.P. Stars won the Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League Division for the Metro New York area State Championship! Xavier went 3 for 4 with 7 RBI's. He was awarded the Cal Ripken Metro New York MVP award. From 2012 - 2013, through his hard work and dedication as one of the leaders on the team, Xavier worked his way up to batting 4th in the order. In 2013, the C.P. Stars broke up, ending a dynasty in NYC baseball.
In 2014, after the break-up of the C.P. Stars, Xavier joined the L.I. Whalers as the starting left fielder. Being a new team at 12u, there were many ups and downs for the team as a whole but in late April, June, July and August, Xavier had a breakout season, hitting a career high 14 homeruns in 3 months, 6 of which were hit over the course of a week in Cooperstown All-Star Village, where he also raked in 14 RBI's, (4 of the homerun videos are posted on my channel)! Xavier continued to shine at the Baseball Heaven East Coast Nationals Tournament in Yaphank, NY, where he hit a homerun over the center field fence, hitting the batting cage building with an estimated distance of over 300ft, proving him to be one of the top power hitters on Long Island for his age group!
We will have to wait and see what 2015 will bring. Xavier has been non-stop since the season ended in October 2014, hitting in the batting cages every week. As of January 2015, he has been taking strength and conditioning classes to further his development as a strong and productive player. Xavier is slated to try out for the Baseball Factory Under Armour National Team on March 22. That video will also be uploaded once complete. As of recently, Xavier has been invited to the Power Showcase event being held in Miami, FL, at the Florida Marlins Major League Stadium, December 27, 2015 - January 3, 2016 by none other than the Founder/President, Brian Domenico. It is a great honor for Xavier to be recognized as a young talented player by Mr. Domenico. The Power Showcase event will enable Xavier to showcase his talent in front of MLB Scouts. Xavier is hoping to make it to this exciting event but a decision is yet to be made...so stay tuned for more videos of the upcoming season. Thank you for your interest.
