St. Petersburg. The cultural capital of Russia, north of Venice, the brainchild of Peter - so often referred to St. Petersburg, the second largest city in our vast, with a population of 4.8 million people. Few cities in the world can boast so many attractions, the museum's collections, opera and drama theaters, mansions and palaces, parks and monuments. The literary and musical heritage of Peter no less outstanding - the number who worked enthusiastically on his misty shores of writers, poets and composers shakes even the boldest imagination. Along with Paris, Rome, Venice and St. Petersburg is included in the UNESCO list as a city in which the entire historic center was taken under patronage. Among other things, there are 42 churches denominations, including the amazing mosque with porcelain dome, Europe's only Buddhist monastery and one of the most beautiful chapels of Malta.

???? Nevsky Prospect by Night • ST. PETERSBURG | RUSSIA • TRAVEL • GUIDE
* More pictures in my google+ ツ
Nevsky Prospect is the main street in the city of St. Petersburg, Russia. Planned by Peter the Great as beginning of the road to Novgorod and Moscow, the avenue runs from the Admiralty to the Moscow Railway Station and, after making a turn at Vosstaniya Square, to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
The chief sights include the Rastrelliesque Stroganov Palace, the huge neoclassical Kazan Cathedral, the Art Nouveau Bookhouse, Elisseeff Emporium, half a dozen 18th-century churches, a monument to Catherine the Great, an enormous 18th-century shopping mall, a mid-19th-century department store, the Russian National Library, the Anichkov Bridge with its horse statues, and the Singer House. The feverish life of the avenue was described by Nikolai Gogol in his story Nevsky Prospekt. Fyodor Dostoevsky often employed the Nevksy Prospekt as a setting within his works, such as Crime and Punishment and The Double: A Petersburg Poem.
During the early Soviet years (1918–44) the name of Nevsky Prospect was changed, first to Proletkult Street (Ulitsa Proletku'ta) in honor of that Soviet artistic organization. Following the demise of Proletkult the name was changed again, this time to Avenue of the 25th of October, alluding to the day of the October Revolution.. (Quelle Wiki)

24 Hours in Saint-Petersburg ( Russia ) ????????????
#Russia #Saint_Petersburg #City #Country
Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербу́рг, tr. Sankt-Peterburg, is situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. With 5 million inhabitants in 2012, it is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow.[9] An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
It was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May [O.S. 16 May] 1703 and served as a capital of Russian Tsardom and subsequent Russian Empire in 1713-1918 (being replaced by Moscow for a short period of time in 1728-1730). After the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks moved their government to Moscow.[10]
In modern times, Saint Petersburg is considered the Northern Capital and serves as a home to some federal government bodies such as the Constitutional Court of Russia and Heraldic Council of the President of the Russian Federation. It is also a seat for National Library of Russia and a planned location for the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it's also referred to as Russia's Culture Capital.[11] Saint Petersburg is home to the Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world.[12]

Saint Petersburg is a city on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Established in 1703 by Peter the Great, Saint Petersburg was the
capital of Russia for two centuries,
and has witnessed some of the most important historical events. The city is often called Venice of the North because of its unique architecture. Petersburg is also very famous for its special creative atmosphere that attracts artists, poets, and dreamers.
Saint Petersburg is 400 km away from Helsinki. There are several buses, express trains, and ferries going from St. Petersburg to the Finnish capital and back every day. The trip takes 3.5 to 6 hours depending on the type of transport. An opportunity to take frequent trips to Europe is one of the advantages of living in the city on the Neva, but you need to make sure you have a Schengen visa in advance (you can do this at embassies of European countries in your country).
Saint Petersburg is rightly called the world's cultural capital. The historical centre of the city is protected by UNESCO. The city boasts world-famous museums, theatres, galleries, architectural monuments, cultural and educational institutions: the Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Russian National Library, and the Russian Museum are just four of them. Many people visit St. Petersburg to familiarise themselves with Russia's great culture: visit the best shows, concerts, exhibitions, and festivals.
Thanks again!!!

INSIDE OF A HUGE SOVIET LIBRARY / The last Spring Day in RUSSIA
Hello, my dear friends and welcome back to our channel!
This is our new vlog filmed on the last spring day this year!
On the first of June Russian people celebrate The children protection day. That is why there are a lot of different family friendly events organized here for children and their families.
This year on the last day of spring, on the 31st of May, we decided to go to our local huge Soviet library named after Russian writer Maksim Gorky. It is a very interesting place! It`s not just a library in the Russian Province! It is a big and important centre for education and leisure. In the library, you can find many old and unique books, visit any Russian exhibition you like absolutely for free and learn more about Russian culture and traditions!
The Gorky state library is situated in the historical part of my hometown. It is an old Soviet library that was opened in 1900. And nowadays you can find much information about the history of our city and country there. It helps us to learn more about Soviet culture, Soviet life, The Soviet Union itself and the science in the USSR.
I invite you to spend a day in the library with my family! Let`s go inside of a huge Soviet Library and have fun together! :)
