Today I went to the Nation Library trying to find an old article which covered the original event of a supposed female reporter who entered the Rajadamnern ring, to ill-effect.

You’ll find that relatively cheap rent, bargain street food, and inexpensive transportation are definite benefits to living here. If you don’t mind living simply, you can get by on a monthly budget of well under US$1,000 per month. If you can manage a budget of US$3,000 per month, you’ll be living like royalty.
Medical care in Bangkok is outstanding. Internationally accredited hospitals and clinics provide top-notch care at prices that are a fraction of the cost of Western health care. Year-round warm weather, dozens of golf courses, and easy access to some of the nicest beaches in Thailand provide further incentives for retirees.
Since there is such a large population of foreigners, there are many activities and services available for expats. Top-quality international schools, libraries, and health care are all easily accessible. Concerts, expat get-togethers, and festivals can be a part of your daily life, and you’ll see other Westerners whenever you venture outside. Parts of the city, especially around Sukhumvit and Silom, feel very Westernized. Although Thai culture is definitely different than Western culture, adjusting to life in Bangkok can be enjoyable and easy.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
Located southwest of Bangkok, this is the most popular floating market in Thailand. The locals sell food and various souvenir items. This market caters primarily to foreign tourists so souvenir items tend to be overpriced. Brush up on your on bargaining skills and try to negotiate from 30% up to 70% off the original price. Since this floating market is around 1 1/2 to 2 hours drive from the city, booking online and joining package tour groups might be a more convenient option.
Grand Palace
Your stay in Bangkok wouldn't be complete without visiting the Grand Palace. Entrance fee for foreign tourists will cost 500 Thai baht. Bear in mind that a dress code is strictly enforced. Men must wear long pants, sleeved shirts and shoes. Women must wear long skirts. Any revealing clothes are not allowed. Inside this beautiful palace complex, you while find numerous spectacular buildings that highlight the artistry and craftsmanship of the Thai people. This includes the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which is considered one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand. To avoid large crowds and tour groups, we recommend you get there before 9 o'clock in the morning.
Wat Pho
Wat Pho is one of Bangkok's most attractive temples and is just a short walk from the Grand Palace. This temple houses the famous giant reclining Buddha, which is 151 feet long and 49 feet tall. The soles of the feet are 15 feet long. It is meticulously inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Entrance fee for foreign tourists is 200 baht. And as with other temples in the city, visitors must wear appropriate clothing.
Wat Arun
Another Buddhist temple in Bangkok is Wat Arun. It is almost opposite of Wat Pho where in a shuttle boat can take you to this place. Its nickname is Temple of the Dawn. It is a Khmer-style temple with four prangs and one larger one in the middle. Its design is actually a thousand pieces of chinese porecelain, seashells and tiny pieces of colored glass. Entry for foreign tourists is 50 baht or 1.65 US dollars.
Muay Thai
Known as the “art of eight limbs”, Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses a combination of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Developed over several hundreds of years, this is the national sport of Thailand. Fights are held at Rajadamnern Stadium, which is one of the oldest and most popular boxing stadiums in the country.
Chao Phraya
The Chao Phraya River is the most important waterway in Thailand. Some of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun, are accessible from various points along this river. Thousands of locals and tourists use ferries and boats to travel along the river each day.
Shopping
Bangkok is arguably one of the most popular shopping hubs in Asia. From high-end shopping malls to night bazaars… from luxury items to bargain shopping… there is surely something for everyone. Tourists can enjoy the benefits of discount cards in various malls around the city, and can also enjoy a VAT refund on goods purchased from participating stores.

Royal Thai Air force Museum Visit
After a nice breakfast at a street food stall on Soi 11 it was time to get cab and head over to the Royal Thai Air force Museum.
I like planes and especially war birds so had been looking forward to this visit for a long time. After the fun and games of the cab ride (see vlog # 34) we got there.
As I entered the museum I noticed a sign saying it was closed? It shouldn't be closed as I checked the opening times etc on the internet before hand. I asked and was told it was still alright to look around so a woman told me but she didn't seem sure. So I entered and thought I would see as much as possible before somebody said otherwise.
Some good and interesting planes at the museum on display and a few of my favourite aircraft both propeller and jet engined. There are lots of other displays and history and information for you to see.
The museum was deserted so I had the run of the place with only a handful of other visitors so was able to get all the shots I wanted. A few surprises for me as some planes I didn't realise the Thai air force have had over the years.
I would go again on another trip as I really enjoyed this visit.
Nice little gift shop there also and a little cafe for drinks and light meals.
