OUTSTANDING CREATIVE ENDEAVOR:
Christie Zimmerman, Department of Theatre and Dance
Narrative in Motion
Christie Zimmerman is an Associate Professor of Dance. Zimmerman has been involved in theatrical and concert choreography and instruction nation-wide. Zimmerman is the artistic director and choreographer of the z3movement project, a dance theatre collaborative; performing at the DUMBO Dance Festival in New York City, the Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival and the Green Space Blooms Festival. According to Zimmerman, “Dance is this universal language—the idea of using bodies in motion to communicate things is something everyone can understand and grasp.” Inspired by the music of the artist Mika, and the dance choreography of Matthew Bourne, Susan Stroman, and Twyla Tharp, Christie Zimmerman was awarded the ASPiRE Junior Faculty Creative Arts Grant to research and create an evening-length piece, Valley of the Four Dolls Parts 43 A, B and C. Her research and curriculum emphasizes the importance for dancers to market their work with clear visual branding strategies. Appointed as coordinator of the Ball State University dance program, Zimmerman recently worked on the Ball State Dance Theatre’s retelling of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutckracker.
