NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CHINA
National museum of China is claimed to be the largest Museum of the world, surpassing the American Museum of New York, British Museum of London, Cairo Museum of Ancient History and Louvre Museum of Paris. It was established in 2003 in the beautiful building of modern architecture, constructed in 1957, in the east of Tiananmen Square, by the merger of the National Museum of Chinese History and the National Museum of Chinese Revolution. It contains 1.2 million artifacts and relics from the past, in 48 halls and galleries, with most modern facilities. The complex covers an area of 16 acres. The four stories of the building have covered area of 2.2 million square feet. The Museum displays articles some of which are stated to be 1.7 million years old. Entry is free.

National Museum of China, Chinese (Pinyin) Zhongguo Guojia Bowuguan or (Wade-Giles romanization) Chung-kuo Kuo-chia Po-wu-kuan, museum in Beijing, located on the east side of Tiananmen Square. The museum was created in 2003 by the merger of the National Museum of Chinese History and the Museum of the Chinese Revolution. It is the largest museum in China and one of the largest museums in the world.
The National Museum of Chinese History, the main exhibits of which covered the history of China from its earliest beginnings up until the Chinese Revolution of 1911–12, was established at the former Imperial College of the Ming and Qing dynasties in 1912 and later expanded to rooms above the south gate of the Forbidden City and associated spaces. It opened to the public in 1926 and was reorganized in 1997 based on the latest archaeological and historical findings and arranged in chronological order. The Museum of the Chinese Revolution, established in 1950, was dedicated to the history of China from about 1840 onward, particularly highlighting the history of the Chinese Communist Party. A new building to house the two museums was completed in 1959.
After China won the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, officials decided to combine the museums into a single entity and embarked on a massive renovation of the building. Construction began in 2007, and the museum reopened to the public in 2011, boasting some 2,153,000 square feet (200,000 square metres) of space—nearly three times its original size. The museum’s collection features more than one million objects, ranging from replicas of bones of Peking man to scientific instruments introduced to China by missionaries in the 18th and 19th centuries and many hundreds of decorative objects—such as bronzes, pottery, lacquerware, jade, and textiles—and documents, art, and artifacts ranging from the Paleolithic Period to the present.

Shanghai Museum - China Travel Channel
The Shanghai Museum (上海 博物馆 ) is the cultural center of Shanghai. Originally founded in 1952, the new building was completed in 1996. On an exhibition space of almost 40,000 sqm, the visitor can admire 10 galleries with approx. 120,000 exhibits.
Some of the extraordinary exhibits are up to 8.000 years old. The Shanghai Museum offers a complete overview of the Chinese culture.
Due to the size of the exhibition, it can be visited over the span of several days. In any case, when visiting the city of Shanghai, you should not miss to go to the Shanghai Museum.

STORYLINE
The renovated National Museum of China reopens to the public on Friday, as the largest museum in the world, according to Chinese officials.
After three and half years' renovation, the National Museum of China nearly tripled in size from 65-thousand square metres (699,654.1 square feet) to almost 200-thousand square metres (215,278,2.0 square feet), and Chinese officials say it has become the world's largest museum, Xinhua news agency reported.
579 objects of will be on display in the 2700 square metre (290,62.5 square feet) space for 12 months.
The Art of the Enlightenment exhibition, jointly organised by the National Museum of China and three major German museums including the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsgemaldesammlungen Munich, is one of the first exhibitions open to the audience in China.
When the exhibition is open, I am sure the art of the Enlightenment will bring the audience a strong spiritual shock and graceful pleasure, Lu Zhangshen, the Curator of the museum said.
More than 2.5 (b) billion RMB (around 385 (m) million US dollars) has been spent on the renovation of the museum.
The new National Museum could receive 8 to 10 (m) million visitors every year, about three times the amount it has seen in the past, the museum officials said.
Basic exhibitions in the museum will be free to the public, while some special exhibitions will charge a relatively small amount for a ticket due to preparation expenses.
