Mr.Beam - Museum Night
For the 2011 edition of the Leiden's Museum Night we had the honor to expose an installation in The Dutch Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden). For this special evening we developed an installation in the main entrance hall, that was projected on an ancient Egyptian temple. Projecting on such a rare historical artifact has been a great honor for us.

EGYPT 622 - TAFFEH TEMPLE *Leiden* (by Egyptahotep)
This temple was originally situated near of the Roman fortress of Taphis (Taffeh) in Nubia. and today is placed in the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) in Leiden (Netherlands) . It was a gift from the Egyptian authorities for the Dutch participation in the campaign to save the Nubian monuments near Abu Simbel, which were under threat because of the building of the Aswan High Dam in the Nile. The temple was built during the reign of emperor Augustus.
in this video you can see images of this temple in its currently place as well as in its original location, and on a map
Temple of Taffeh and folded corners
The Temple of Taffeh (Arabic: معبد طافا) is an Ancient Egyptian temple which was presented to the Netherlands for its help in contributing to the historical preservation of Egyptian antiquities in the 1960s. The temple was built of sandstone[1] between 25 BCE and 14 CE during the rule of the Romanemperor Augustus.[2] It was part of the Roman fortress known as Taphis[3] and measures 6.5 by 8 metres (21 ft × 26 ft).[4] The north temple's two front columns are formed by square pillars with engaged columns on its four sides.[5] The rear wall of the temple interior features a statue niche.
In 1960, in relation to the construction of the Aswan High Dam and the consequent threat posed by its reservoir to numerous[6] monuments and archeological sites in Nubia such as the temple of Abu Simbel, UNESCO made an international call to save these sites.[7][8] In gratitude, Egypt assigned several monuments to the countries that replied to this plea in a significant way, including the Netherlands.[9] Adolf Klasens, the director of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and a Dutch Egyptologist[10] played a part in arranging the agreement where Egypt presented the temple of Taffeh to the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden, the Netherlands.
This building is constructed from 657 blocks weighing approximately 250 tons.[11] After arriving in 1971, it was reconstructed in a new wing of the National Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) in Leiden, Netherlands. The new structure was designed in such a way that the Dutch weather would not affect the stone, that natural light would illuminate the temple and that visitors could see the temple before having to pay for admission.[12] There was also an effort to replace a minimum number of damaged stones.
A Greek inscription and a Christian cross remain carved into its walls.[13]

Queens of the Nile - Egypt exhibition in Leiden, Holland
The exhibition 'Queens of the Nile' tell the story of the ancient Egyptians pharaohs' wives during the New Kingdom period (1500 to 1000 BC). The Museo Egizio in Turin (Italy) loaned 245 of its finest objects for the exhibition (total: 350 objects). The Museo Egizio is the second largest ancient Egyptian Museum in the world. It seldom loans these precious grave goods.
During the New Kingdom, ancient Egypt was at the height of its power. Pharaohs were lords and masters of their realm and worshipped as gods. Their queens were also accorded divine and regal status. They fulfilled important religious functions and sometimes had temples especially built for them. Their divine status often continued after their death.
Famous queens as Ahmose Nefertari, Hatshepsut, Tiye, Nefertiti and Nefertari were powerful women who were not simply wives but who ran the pharaoh's palace and exercised significant political power. Although pharaohs could marry many wives, only one was allowed to bear the title 'Great Queen'. She managed the day-to-day running of the harem, which sometimes comprised hundreds of women. At court she was surrounded by sumptuous jewellery, magnificent clothes, cosmetics and furniture.
A unique element in the exhibition is the display of objects recovered from the tomb of Queen Nefertari, alongside her sarcophagus cover. Her tomb, plundered in antiquity, was discovered in the Valley of the Queens, close to the Egyptian city of Luxor, in 1904. Regarded as one of the finest tombs from ancient Egypt, one of its richly decorated chambers was reconstructed in the exhibition. Nefertari was queen and wife of Ramses II (1279-1213 BC).
The tomb was discovered in 1904 by Ernesto Schiaparelli’s mission and the Italian Archaeological Mission, that worked in the Valley of the Queens between 1903 and 1905.
The exhibition took place in the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (Dutch: Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) and lasted from 18 November 2016 until 17 April 2017.
There is also a permanent exhibition of its Egyptian collection, which ranks among the ten most important Egyptian collections in the world. More than 1,400 objects are on display in the redesigned Egyptian galleries, which cover the entire ground floor.
