Paris | Natural History Museum | Eiffel Tower at Night
Today is our last day in Paris. It's a wet one, so we decided to try keep indoors and head to the Natural History Museum.
There is a range of sites at the museum including Palaeontology (animal and dinosaur bones), Mankind museum, even a zoo.
We also had a look at Galerlies Lafayette (thumbs down) and waited till dark, so the boys could see the Eiffel Tower lit up.
Great way to finish the visit to Paris!

The French National Museum of Natural History, known in French as the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, is the national natural history museum of France and a grand établissement of higher education part of Sorbonne Universities. The main museum is located in Paris, France, on the left bank of the River Seine. It was founded in 1793 during the French Revolution, but was established earlier in 1635. As of 2017, the museum has 14 sites throughout France, with four in Paris, including the original location at the royal botanical garden, the Jardin des Plantes, which remains one of the seven departments of MNHN.
The museum was formally founded on 10 June 1793, during the French Revolution. Its origins lie, however, in the Jardin royal des plantes médicinales (royal garden of medicinal plants) created by King Louis XIII in 1635, which was directed and run by the royal physicians. The royal proclamation of the boy-king Louis XV on 31 March 1718, however, removed the purely medical function, enabling the garden—which became known simply as the Jardin du Roi (King's garden)—to focus on natural history.
In the 19th century Argentine naturalist Francisco Javier Muñiz developed a collection that he intended to be used to create a natural history museum. The artifacts were sent (donated or possibly donated by force) to Juan Manuel de Rosas, the dictator of the Argentine Federation, whose support was required to establish a museum. Rosas, in an attempt to build alliances overseas, sent collected fossils to Jean Henri Dupotet, Rear Admiral of the French Navy. Dupotet then sent them to Paris. In France, the Muñiz collection ended up in the National Museum of Natural History where they were studied by Paul Gervais.
In 1762 Jean Baptiste Christophore Fusée Aublet was sent to Cayenne in French Guiana, where he assembled a vast herbarium which allowed him to prepare his Histoire des plantes de la Guiane françoise, published in 1775 and including almost 400 copperplate engravings. When Fusée Aublet died at Paris in 1778, he left his herbarium to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, though the latter possessed it for only two months before he too died. It was eventually acquired by the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in 1953.
The museum has as its mission both research (fundamental and applied) and public diffusion of knowledge. It is organized into seven research and three diffusion departments.
The research departments are:
Classification and Evolution
Regulation, Development, and Molecular Diversity
Aquatic Environments and Populations
Ecology and Biodiversity Management
History of Earth
Men, Nature, and Societies, and
Prehistory
The diffusion departments are:
The Galleries of the Jardin des Plantes
Botanical Parks and Zoos, and
The Museum of Man (Musée de l'Homme)
The museum also developed higher education, and now delivers a master's degree

National museum of natural history Tour - Paris
Join me on this trip to the famous National museum of natural history in Paris, France in April 2019. I had a great time in Paris and if you are interested in seeing more from this trip check out my channel for more videos I am sharing from this excursion.
Shedding light on natural history
The flagship of Paris' National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), The Grand Gallery of Evolution (GGE), is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with an update of the lighting system that was originally implemented back in 1994. A new system with more than 200 Tripix range fixtures and 36 Exterior 410s was installed to give new life to the GGE.
In late 2009 the decision to renew was made with a vision of bringing back sound and light to the visitors. Twice a day for 15 years, there’s been a lighting show in GGE which imitates the atmosphere of a day in Africa with blazing sun and stormy skies. The limitations of the old system started to show, both in terms of outdated technology and high power consumption. Therefore, MNHN decided to look at LED as a possible light source, given recent years’ development and progress in LED technology. After several unsuccessful attempts of working with manufacturers, MNHN came to Martin Professional to ask for advice on a new lighting solution that would be able to revive the visitor experience as well as drastically reduce power consumption.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
