Getting from the city Santa Ana to the volcano Santa Ana (Cerro Verde) is easy..if you don't miss the chicken bus :D Luckily I found another bus that went from Santa Ana to Sonsonate and so I got out at an intersection and hitchhiked the rest to Cerro Verde. I did this free daily tour to the volcano and I only had to pay the national park entrance fee. The volcano of Santa Ana is one of the must see attractions and must see things to do, if you're traveling in El Salvador and especially visiting the city of Santa Ana. The volcano is El Salvador's highest volcano so if you're backpacking and want to hike up a volcano in El Salvador, hike Santa Ana! It's 2381m high and the climb takes back and forth 3 hours in total.. The hike was super easy after the arduous and lengthy Acatenango volcano climb in Guatemala!
