影片簡介Introduction of the Film
There are a large number of old temples in Tainan. Many of them require repair or restoration. Therefore, god statues in these temples have been mostly repainted; only a few statues require scientific restoration by professional cultural relics restorers. During the restorative process, not only cultural relics but also certain feelings are restored. In the video, after continuous debate and discussion, two restorers select a method that meet both the temple owner’s expectations and religious requirements. As the restorers complete the restoration of two god statues, they perpetuate the 300-year legacy of the statues.

Taiwan is a wonderful melting pot of cultures and tastes. It preserved traditional Chinese values and enriched it with Japanese and Western cultural influence, that gave birth to a truly unique flavor among the fast growing Asian countries.
As an international student, we have the wonderful opportunity to discover this unique mix while immersing ourselves in the beautiful scenery and vibrant culinary adventure of this island.
I strongly encourage every international student to make friends with local students and discover as much as possible while studying in Taiwan. I am sure that it would give memorable and valuable contribution to their personal and professional life!

TAIWAN WALK IN CHANGHUA AND LUKANG
Randomly on the streets of Changhua and Lukang...Au hazard des rues de Changhua et Lukang...
Drought concerns lead Taiwan to develop alternative water sources
The ongoing drought has led the Water Resources Agency to actively promote a water reclamation plan in Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. Some six different demonstration sites will show how wastewater can be treated and used for industrial purposes. In 2014, Taiwan’s total rainfall was just two-thirds that of the annual average.Lai Chien-hsin Water Resources AgencyClimate change has potentially made swings between years of ample rainfall and rainfall shortage more severe. Taiwan’s geology makes it very difficult to save (rain) when it does fall.Climate change potentially brings more extreme rainfall conditions, which in addition to conservation efforts may potentially be a new source of water.Taipei’s Parks Department has established water collection vessels which can store rainfall during periods of heavy rain that can be used later to water the flowers or wash the road. Penghu’s Wukan desalination plant is the first of its kind in Taiwan. It was established in 1995, and in 2007 was transferred into private hands via a BOT arrangement. Each day it processes 13,000 tons of saltwater, providing half of the water supply for some 56,000 residents of Makung.Lee Chih-chengDesalination Plant VPAbout 10 meters below us is a 1-meter wide pipe which extends out into the deep ocean to a location indicated by this red buoy. Water is brought in and stored in wells in the back of this plant. The Water Resources Agency is also promoting a proposal to treat wastewater for reuse.Lai Chien-hsin Water Resources Agency Aside from traditional water sources, we are looking to develop diversified water sources. Water reclamation is one of our goals as we can no longer simply depend upon freshwater. In New Taipei’s Sanxia District near National Taipei University these colorful, oversized candy canes are actually water pipes discharging wastewater that has been processed for reuse. This wastewater treatment plant collects water used for bathing, washing clothes and other uses by residents in the area. After being processed, it is made available for public use.You Sheng-jieChung Yuan Christian UniversityJapan divides water into three different categories. Upper water is fresh drinking water and lower water has already been used and collected by sewer systems. We are collecting this wastewater and processing it into usable water which is called mid-water, but here in Taiwan we are calling it reclaimed water.Lin Huai-jenWater Reclamation Center DirectorWater that enters this canal passes through this fine screen machine which takes out large particles such as dirt, toilet paper and other things. Later, it passes through two other channels that have finer filters. According to data from the reclaimed water center, the area around National Taipei University collects 7,000 tons of wastewater each day and produces 800 tons of reclaimed water which can be used for flushing toilets, cleaning cars and watering plants.Lai Chien-hsin Water Resources Agency Because reclaimed water comes from different type of sources such as city sewers and industrial wastewater, it may have a different chemical or heavy metal composition. For this reason, we go through different layers of processing. It’s actually impossible to remove all of these heavy metals. Taiwan’s use of reclaimed water has yet to become widespread. This is because tap water is conveniently available at most faucets, while reclaimed water is only dispensed at special locations. Transport can be inconvenient. Another reason for low usage of reclaimed water is the simple fact that wastewater from households doesn’t typically go into sewers for wastewater treatment. Instead, it goes directly into rivers. You Sheng-JieChung Yuan Christian UniversityWastewater entering sewer systems has yet to become widespread. A look at this year’s data shows just 28 percent of wastewater entered sewer systems. With such low levels, there’s little chance of increased usage of reclaimed water. While many countries around the world are promoting reclaimed water, most usage doesn’t come into direct contact with humans. Only a few countries such as Singapore allow reclaimed water to be used as tap water for human consumption. You Sheng-JieChung Yuan Christian UniversityTake Singapore for example. Their reclaimed water is used for industrial purposes such as semiconductor manufacturing or even to supplement reservoirs where they mix fresh water with reclaimed water. In Taiwan, our main objective is to use reclaimed water for industrial uses. The Water Resources Agency has promoted the use of reclaimed water at six different demonstration facilities. It expects that by 2021, it will be able to produce 1.2 million tons of reclaimed water for industrial uses. Lai Chien-hsin Water Resources Agency If we can develop reclaimed water to become an important source of water we wouldn’t have to use fresh tap water to supply fact...

TOP Tainan Open Plaza- Emergence of Urban Connection: 2011 NCKU international workshop
In the heart of the city of Tainan, the current railway will be buried beneath the ground for 8.23 km. This will provide 13.2 ha of new land in its very center. It is an outstanding redevelopment opportunity to connect the so far separated parts of western and eastern Tainan.
The following design addresses this by providing a clear center to the city. It establishes a so far unseen vivid connection of space between the Central Business District in the west of the site and its east side, which is home to National Cheng Kung University. This integrated approach bears in mind the high costs and risks of the new development while empowering the site's crucial importance to the city center development. Accomplishing this, the provided solution understands the high land value of the site as great opportunity.

Taipei Taiwan Apartment Tour - Part I (near TaiMall)
My brother-in-law's apartment. Filmed by my son, sorry for the vertigo! Across the road outside the lobby, my son zooms in on two Buddist stoves...used for burning 'fake' paper money offerings so that dead relatives will be rich in their after-life.
A custom sure to keep the air polluted and the trees falling. I always joke with my wife that one day I will walk up to one of those stoves with a marshmellow on a stick (kidding!).

High Heel Wedding Church 嘉義高跟鞋教堂, ChiaYi, Taiwan - 3/9/2016
嘉義高跟鞋教堂
A church shaped like a high-heeled shoe has been built in Chiayi County in southern Taiwan in a gambit by local tourism authorities to attract more female visitors.
The structure, located at Ocean View Park in Budai Township, is made from 320 panes of blue-tinted glass and stands 17 meters tall and 11 meters wide.
Though it was originally given the name Cinderella High-Heel Church, the glass shoe is actually an installation artwork with no religious function.
The name was a play on the story of Cinderella, who is found by her Prince Charming by virtue of the glass slipper she left behind at the royal ball.
