Burragorang Lookout and the sleepy town of The Oaks, New South Wales Australia
Burragorang or Burragorang Valley is a locality in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. It is home to Lake Burragorang, which is impounded by Warragamba Dam. It is located within the Blue Mountains National Park – specifically the Nattai National Park.
In 1827, the town of Burragorang was established as a mining town and up to the 1960s was a major supplier of coal. Moreover, lead and silver had also been mined in the valley until about 1927.
With the boom of Sydney's population after World War II, Warragamba Dam was constructed between 1948 and 1960 on the Warragamba River, inundating the Burragorang Valley, creating Lake Burragorang. Consequently, the town of Burragorang and others like it in the valley were lost under water.
The area around Burragorang and Nattai had been home to numerous collieries from the 1920s to the 1990s, such as the Nattai-Bulli, Oakleigh, Wollondlly, Nattai North and Valley collieries. It is estimated 72 million tonnes of coal was mined in the Burragorang-Nattai region.
The Oaks is a town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia in Wollondilly Shire on the south western edge of the Sydney Basin. The Oaks is located 76 kilometres (47 mi) south-west of Sydney via the Hume Highway, 13 kilometres (8 mi) west of Camden and 290m above sea-level. At the 2011 census, The Oaks and the surrounding area had a population of 2,439 people.
Despite a long-standing economic dependence upon coal mining and despite the urban development inspired by its proximity to Sydney, The Oaks has essentially remained an attractive semi-rural district.

Nattai National Park
A day trip into the wilderness of Nattai National Park. Nattai National Park has plenty of astonishing beauty, including Nattai River, the dominant Hawkesbury sandstone cliffs, and the inspiring views out over the park from Mount Jellore. We made lunch on the campground by the Nattai River known as Emitts Flat, at the end of Starlight's trail.

The Kanangra-Boyd National Park, established in 1969, is situated approximately 180 kilometres south-west of Sydney and is contiguous with the Blue Mountains National Park.
The Kanangra-Boyd National Park is one of the eight protected areas that, in 2000, was inscribed to form part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Greater Blue Mountains Area. The Kanangra-Boyd National Park is the most south–westerly of the eight protected areas within the World Heritage Site. The national park forms part of the Great Dividing Range.

Thirlmere Lakes is a national park in New South Wales (Australia), 70 km southwest of Sydney, and lying just to the west of Thirlmere, New South Wales. It is part of the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site. Covering an area of 629 hectares,[1] it was gazetted in 1972 as Thirlmere Lakes State Park, before being subsequently reclassified as a National Park.[2]
The main feature of the park are the lakes, thought to have formed around 15 million years ago by geological activity, the land lifting and largely cutting them off from the local river system. Their outflow is reduced to the small Blue Gum Creek, which flows west into the Little River in the adjacent Nattai National Park to the west.[3]
The lakes and their environs contain an unusual and diverse array of flora and fauna. It contains the rare freshwater sponge Radiospongilla sceptroides,[4] and is notable for an absence of freshwater snails.[2] The lakes contain the rare watershield (Brasenia schreberi) and are lined with rare species such as the grey sedge (Lepironia articulata) and the wooly frogsmouth lily (Philydrum lanuginosum). The habitat provides a home for the otherwise scarce Australasian Bittern (Botaurus poiciloptilus), and migratory Latham's Snipe Gallinago hardwickii.[4]
The habitat around the lakes is open sclerophyll forest, the dominant trees being rough-barked apple (Angophora floribunda) nearby and sydney peppermint (Eucalyptus piperita) and red bloodwood (Corymbia gummifera) on elevated areas. The understory species include many familiar sydney sandstone flora such as members of the genera Banksia, Acacia, pea flowers, and the New South Wales waratah (Telopea speciosissima)
