Vamos a Punta de Teno 2018
Carretera del Faro de Punta de Teno is the name of the sharply winding and precipitous ascent in a steep and narrow zig-zag road located in Tenerife, the largest and most populous island of the seven Canary Islands, Spain. There’s a high danger of earth-falling.
The lighthouse, on a cliff on the Natural Park of Teno, was built in 1897. Avalanches and landslides can occur anytime. The road includes some steep sections, without market central lines, is very narrow, barely wide enough for 2 cars at the same time. With just a low concrete barrier between you and the steep mountain drop, it's best not to look down. Go by bus!

THE MAGNIFICENT MASCA WALK, Teno Rural Park - with Andy Tenerife Walker
Masca Gorge is one of the most popular walks in Tenerife.
The walk starts in the beautiful village of Masca where we descend the magnificent barranco on adventurous paths below towering cliffs of volcanic rock.
The ravine is full of lush vegetation and endemic plants which descends to the unspoilt Masca Bay beach where tide permitting, a swim awaits to cool down before embarking on our sea taxi back to Los Gigantes. This in itself is a fantastic tour.
The walk takes between 3-4 hours and is mostly downhill and steep in places therefore good footwear is necessary. The length of the walk depends upon stops for photos, sightseeing, admiring the natural beauty and refreshments.
Price is €45 per person which includes all transport on the day including the sea taxi but not food and drink. Minimum booking 2 people.

The Parque Nacional del Teide occupies the highest part of the island of Tenerife ( Canary Islands ). Declared 1954 as the Teide National Park, is the largest and oldest national park in the Canary Islands. The laurel is a type of subtropical rainforest that can be found on several of the islands of Macaronesia : Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands. It has deep soils and is characteristic of the northern slopes subject to the mists of the trade winds, with rainfall of 500 to 1100 mm and an annual temperature between 15 and 19 ° C. These forests consist of laurel leaf perennial, up to 40 meters in height, and are home to a rich biotope of undergrowth plants to invertebrates, of birds and bats, some of which are endemic.
The laurel forest originally covered much of the Azores and Madeira and part of the western islands of the Canary Islands, but forests have been greatly reduced by cutting, clearing for agriculture and grazing, and that the invasion of exotic species. The most extensive forests laurel are always in Madeira, where they are found between 300 and 1300 meters above sea level, where they cover 149.5 km 2, about 16% of the area of the island. The Canary Islands, about 60 km² of laurel forest still exist in Tenerife and more than 20 km 2 in the Garajonay National Park in La Gomera. In the Azores, small areas remain on the islands of Pico, Terceira and São Miguel.
The laurel forests are relics of a type of vegetation that originally covered most of the basin Mediterranean when the climate of the region was wetter. During the drying of the Mediterranean basin during the Pliocene, the laurel forests retreated gradually replaced by more drought resistant species. The latest forest laurel forest on the shores of the Mediterranean have gone there about 10 000 years ago, in the late Pleistocene, when the Mediterranean basin warmed and dried up, although some remnants of the flora of these forests still persist in the mountains of southern Spain and northern Morocco. The location of the Macaronesia islands in the North Atlantic has reduced these climatic fluctuations, and maintained the relatively wet and mild climate that allowed these forests to persist until today.
On the island of Tenerife is a remarkable biodiversity ecological despite its small size, which is due to special environmental conditions, because the rugged terrain changes locally prevailing weather conditions generally causing a variety of microclimates. This vast existence of microclimates and therefore natural habitat, it is manifested in vegetation island, consisting of a rich and varied flora (1400 species of higher plants), including numerous endemic canaries (200) and exclusively Tenerife (140).
By concentrating heritage of 140 plant species exclusive Tenerife Island shows the relationship of endemic flora largest so-called Macaronesia. The combination of these agents determined the presence of multiple habitats that are home to numerous communities of plants and animals that make up the unique ecosystems of Tenerife. The study of the flora and fauna of Tenerife can be done in a more orderly if it is classified according to the different ecological zones which divides the land of the island.
Yet to mention the extensive marine life, among which stand out serranidae, the salps and snappers. They also have a great interest loggerhead and permanent colonies of whales and dolphins that inhabit the southern coast of the island. Tenerife has a wildlife inventory amounting to 56 bird species, 13 land mammals, 5 reptiles, several thousand invertebrates, amphibians and 400 two fish, plus some species of sea turtles and cetaceans. Among mammals, the Canarian black pig is a pig breed native to the Canary Islands. In characteristic black coat, this breed is mainly in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The cow canary is native to the Canary Islands. Located on Gran Canaria and Tenerife, participate in competitions dragging livestock held on this island. The network provides up to eight different categories of protection, all represented in Tenerife: a part of the Teide National Park has the largest natural park in the Canaries (Corona Forestal), two rural parks (Anaga and Teno), four nature reserves, six special natural reserves, a total of fourteen natural monuments, nine protected landscapes and even six sites of scientific interest.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, off West Africa. It's dominated by Mt. Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak. Tenerife may be best known for its Carnaval de Santa Cruz, a huge pre-Lent festival with parades, music, dancing and colorful costumes. The island has many beaches (with sands from yellow to black) and resort areas, including Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas.
Tenerife is the largest and most populated island of the seven Canary Islands. About five million tourists visit Tenerife each year, the most of any of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain and the world. Tenerife hosts one of the world's largest carnivals and the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is working to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Served by two airports, Tenerife North Airport and Tenerife South Airport, Tenerife is the economic centre of the archipelago. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the island and the seat of the island council (cabildo insular). The city is capital of the autonomous community of Canary Islands (shared with Las Palmas), sharing governmental institutions such as Presidency and ministries. Between the 1833 territorial division of Spain and 1927, Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the sole capital of the Canary Islands. In 1927 the Crown ordered that the capital of the Canary Islands be shared, as it remains at present. Santa Cruz contains the modern Auditorio de Tenerife, the architectural symbol of the Canary Islands.
Tenerife is home to the University of La Laguna; founded in 1792 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, it is the oldest university in the Canaries. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is the second to have been founded on the island, and is the third of the archipelago. The city of La Laguna was capital of the Canary Islands before Santa Cruz replaced it in 1833. Teide National Park, a World Heritage Site in the center of the island, has Teide, the highest elevation of Spain, the highest of the islands of the Atlantic Ocean, and the third-largest volcano in the world from its base. Also located on the island, Macizo de Anaga since 2015 has been designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Tenerife has the largest number of endemic species in Europe.
