A look at a more traditional side of china our tour took us to visit 3 cities: Suzhou, wuxi and Hangzhou. Where we visited their traditional houses and gardens from different time periods. We also visited factories that made some of china’s sought after art forms and resources.

In China, (Chinese: 国家级风景名胜区; pinyin: Guójiājí Fēngjǐng Míngshèngqū; literally: National-level Scenic and Historic Interest Area) is the exact equivalent of the term 'national park' (Chinese: 国家公园; pinyin: Guójiā Gōngyuán) applied to the rest of the world, as specified in the National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB50298-1999: Code for Scenic Area Planning, and in the Green Paper: Situation and Prospects of China's Scenic Areas published by the Ministry of Construction in 1994. National parks in China were officially approved and declared by the State Council. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is in charge of the supervision and administration of national and provincial parks throughout the country.
To date, China has 244 national parks. The ranges and boundaries of these national parks are often extended beyond what the official names might suggest. For example, the Taihu National Park (太湖国家级风景名胜区; overall size [scenic zones + transitional zones]：3,091 km²), stretching across Suzhou and Wuxi, is composed of 13 scenic zones (with a number of scenic spots in each SZ): Mudu, Shihu/石湖, Guangfu/光福, Dongshan/东山, Xishan/西山, Luzhi, Tongli, Mount Yushan, Meiliang Lake, Lake Lihu, Xihui, Mashan/马山, Yangxian/阳羡, plus 2 isolated scenic spots (falling outside the scenic zone): Taibo's Shrine and Tomb.

The water gardens of Suzhou
For Chinese people, Suzhou is a city of water. Water inspires an unique lifestyle, and the old canal, delicate gardens and scenery of Taihu Lake are proof of that. The Suzhou dialect and Pingtan, its regional form of musical story-telling, are evocative as the sound of flowing water. For Suzhou people, the pleasant sound of water is part of its charm, and part of what makes southeast China special.
The Forbidden City — 9999 Rooms for 14 Emperors
The Forbidden City, situated in the very heart of Beijing, was home to 24 emperors of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) Dynasties.
The construction of the grand palace started in the fourth year of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1406), and ended in 1420.
In ancient times, the emperor was said to be a son of Heaven, and therefore Heaven’s supreme power was bestowed upon him. The emperors’ residence on earth was built as a replica of the Purple Palace where God was thought to live in Heaven.
Names: Such a divine place was certainly forbidden to ordinary people and that is why the Forbidden City is so named. Originally called Zijin Cheng ('Purple Forbidden City'), in China now it is usually called Gugong (故宫 /goo-gong), the 'Former/Old Palace'.

Hangzhou ([xǎŋʈʂóu̯] ( listen)), formerly romanized as Hangchow, is the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang Province in east China.[2] It sits at the head of Hangzhou Bay, which separates Shanghai and Ningbo. Hangzhou grew to prominence as the southern terminus of the Grand Canal and has been one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China for much of the last millennium, due in part to its beautiful natural scenery. The city's West Lake is its best-known attraction.
Ji Gong (Lama Nyombu) was born and grew up in Tiantai Mountain. After his parents’ death when his was only 18 years old and keeping vigil beside the coffin for 3 years, he went to Hangzhou and became a monastic at the famous Ling Yin Temple. However, unlike traditional Buddhist monk, he ate meat and drank wine. He rolled about the hillside with monkeys, sang songs with children in the Hangzhou wine-shops and dressed as a beggar wearing worn clothes, hat, shoes, and always holding a fan as well as a gourd containing wine. However, he was warm-hearted and was always ready to lend a helping hand to ordinary people. Of course, his eccentric behavior but compassionate nature makes people think that he must have his own reason to behave as “Crazy Ji”.
Based on legends, while cultivating in the Buddha’s teaching, Ji Gong was said to be a reincarnate of arhat with magic powers. He became a holy fool who had the power of craziness in order to cover his real identity of the incarnate of the Taming Dragon Arhat (Xiang Long Luo Han, 降龙罗汉) and complete the task distributed by the Buddha of finding the escaped Da Peng Bird (大鹏鸟).

Jiangsu (江苏; formerly Kiangsu) is an eastern-central coastal province of the People's Republic of China. It is one of the leading provinces in finance, education, technology, and tourism, with its capital in Nanjing. Jiangsu is the third smallest, but the fifth most populous and the most densely populated of the 23 provinces of the People's Republic of China. Jiangsu has the highest GDP per capita of Chinese provinces and second-highest GDP of Chinese provinces, after Guangdong. Jiangsu borders Shandong in the north, Anhui to the west, and Zhejiang and Shanghai to the south. Jiangsu has a coastline of over 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) along the Yellow Sea, and the Yangtze River passes through the southern part of the province.
Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, Jiangsu has been a national economic and commercial center, partly due to the construction of the Grand Canal. Since the initiation of economic reforms in 1990, Jiangsu has become a focal point for economic development.
