The Sundarbans is a vast forest in the coastal region of the Bay of Bengal; considered one of the natural wonders of the world, it was recognised in 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bangladesh. Located in the delta region of Padma, Meghna and Brahmaputra river basins, this unique forest area extends across Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh and South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal, India. The Sundarbans is the world's largest coastal mangrove forest, with an area of approximately 10,000 sq km; of which approximately 6,000 sq km is situated in Bangladesh and approximately 4,000 sq km in India. The Bangladeshi and Indian parts of the Sundarbans, while in fact adjacent parts of the uninterrupted landmark, have been listed separately in the UNESCO World Heritage List: as Sundarbans and Sundarban National Park respectively. The Sundarbans are a network of marine streams, mud shores and mangrove forests. The region is known to contain numerous species of animals, birds and reptiles, including Royal Bengal Tiger, Chital Deer, Crocodile and Snakes . On 21 May 1992, the Sundarbans was recognized as a Ramsar Site of ecological importance.

BEAUTIFUL NATURE (সুন্দর প্রকৃতি / सुंदर प्रकृति)OF KOLKATA (CALCUTTA), INDIA
Nature, in the broadest sense, is the natural, physical, or material world or universe. Nature can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large part of science. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena.
The word nature is derived from the Latin word natura, or essential qualities, innate disposition, and in ancient times, literally meant birth. Natura is a Latin translation of the Greek word physis, which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics that plants, animals, and other features of the world develop of their own accord. This usage continued during the advent of modern scientific method in the last several centuries.
Within the various uses of the word today, nature often refers to geology and wildlife. Nature can refer to the general realm of living plants and animals, and in some cases to the processes associated with inanimate objects – the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the Earth. It is often taken to mean the natural environment or wilderness–wild animals, rocks, forest, and in general those things that have not been substantially altered by human intervention, or which persist despite human intervention. For example, manufactured objects and human interaction generally are not considered part of nature, unless qualified as, for example, human nature or the whole of nature. This more traditional concept of natural things which can still be found today implies a distinction between the natural and the artificial, with the artificial being understood as that which has been brought into being by a human consciousness or a human mind. Depending on the particular context, the term natural might also be distinguished from the unnatural or the supernatural.
Although humans comprise only a minuscule proportion of the total living biomass on Earth, the human effect on nature is disproportionately large. Because of the extent of human influence, the boundaries between what humans regard as nature and made environments is not clear cut except at the extremes. Even at the extremes, the amount of natural environment that is free of discernible human influence is diminishing at an increasingly rapid pace.
The development of technology by the human race has allowed the greater exploitation of natural resources and has helped to alleviate some of the risk from natural hazards. In spite of this progress, however, the fate of human civilization remains closely linked to changes in the environment. There exists a highly complex feedback loop between the use of advanced technology and changes to the environment that are only slowly becoming understood. Man-made threats to the Earth's natural environment include pollution, deforestation, and disasters such as oil spills. Humans have contributed to the extinction of many plants and animals.
Humans employ nature for both leisure and economic activities. The acquisition of natural resources for industrial use remains the primary component of the world's economic system. Some activities, such as hunting and fishing, are used for both sustenance and leisure, often by different people. Agriculture was first adopted around the 9th millennium BCE. Ranging from food production to energy, nature influences economic wealth.
Although early humans gathered uncultivated plant materials for food and employed the medicinal properties of vegetation for healing, most modern human use of plants is through agriculture. The clearance of large tracts of land for crop growth has led to a significant reduction in the amount available of forestation and wetlands, resulting in the loss of habitat for many plant and animal species as well as increased erosion.
H&HT | Backpacking India: Ep6 - Kolkata, Sundarbans & Mandarmoni
Welcome to India. We will be backpacking through India for the next six weeks, slowly making our way east and homewards to Australia.
In this episode, we travelled from Varanasi via an overnight sleeper train to Kolkata where we stayed two nights and enjoying the city life at Backpacker’s Park Hostel. It was really nice to be back in a more modern setting but still with the quirkiness of a typical India city that we have come to love (or hate). Plus the hostel we stayed at was by far the most sociable we had experienced in six weeks of travelling the country.
We then spent two nights/three days in the Sundarbans with Backpackers Tour de Sundarbans: It was easily the highlight of our trip so far in India and 100% our #1 “must do”. Although we missed out on the opportunity to join a group (another couple pulled out the day before), it really meant we were given the freedom to dictate our itinerary for the three days, which worked out in our favour as we were incredibly fortunate to be able to see a Royal Bengal Tiger whilst not strictly following the itinerary (talk to your guide on the day, they know what they are doing).
We then headed back to Kolkata for another night at Backpacker’s Park before catching a bus the next morning to Mandarmoni, a beachside town not usually frequented by foreign travellers. We stayed two nights, which meant a full day spent at the beach! Not usually on the backpacking itinerary, we were eager to see something off the beaten track and desperate for a swim to avoid the Indian heat, so for us, it was worth it.
We then headed back to Kolkata for one last night before hopping on a red-eye flight to Myanmar via Bangkok…but you’ll have to wait to see that in the next vlog.
Catch up on the Backpacking India series here:
Enjoy!

This usage continued during the advent of modern scientific method in the last several centuries.[4][5]

Nice Deer Park in West Bengal. Burdwan deer park. Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary. BURDWAN RAMNABAGAN VIDEO. Deer park tour in 2018. Burdwan mini zoo. Deer park at Burdwan.
Amazing Deer park in India.
Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary is in Burdwan, West Bengal, India. The animals found include spotted deer and common langur. Blackbuck have been introduced recently.
Ramnabagan Mini Zoo in the Ramnabagan Wildlife Sanctuary spread over an area of 14.31 hectares is in Mouza Baburbag in Burdwan. This is under the control of Divisional Forest Officer, Burdwan Division. The area was declared as reserved forest in 1960.
In 1978, the area had been converted to a deer park with the introduction of six spotted deer. Subsequently, the whole area has been declared a wildlife sanctuary.
Ramna garden forest, with its tall and stately teak and sal forest having mesophytic associates like kadbels, dumur, jam, etc., is a solace from the din and bustle of urban life.
Chital and barking deer were introduced here since its inception in 1978. The present population of chital (spotted deer) is quite high.
Besides these, the wild animals in captivity in the zoo are leopard, sloth bear, crocodile, peafowl, adjutant stork and rosy pelican and blackbuck.
Common langurs are abundant in the zoo area. Parakeets, cuckoos, storks, snakes, mongooses, owls, spotted dove and birds like martins thrive in a remarkable habitat in this sanctuary cum mini zoo area.
The area is in the municipal limits of Burdwan town and is about 4 km from Burdwan Railway station to the west. It is about 50 m from G.T. Road (N.H.2) on Burdwan-Durgapur stretch. It is well connected with G.T Road by Sukumar Sen Road that meets G.T Road at Golapbag crossing. There is a good network of approach roads all along the periphery of the zoo.
Burdwan is well connected with all the major junctions of Eastern Railway. Local trains ply between Howrah and Burdwan at regular intervals. One can also avail buses which run frequently from all the major bus terminals at Kolkata.
