Good morning everybody, today we're doing the Damas Island mangrove boat tour. Hopefully we'll see a lot of cool wildlife in this beautiful place near Manuel Antonio, so let's go and check it out.
Just a 15 minute drive outside of Manuel Antonio lies the Damas Island, an island surrounded by estuaries lined with coastal mangrove forest. Tourists can take a river boat safari tour through Damas Island to see the surrounding mangroves and estuaries and to spot the exotic wildlife that lives there.
On our 2 hour boat tour, our guide taught us about the incredible mangrove ecosystem including the different types of mangrove trees. As we boated through the mangroves in our covered riverboat, we saw a ton of wildlife including a crocodile, monkeys, a boa constrictor that only lives in mangroves, herons, kingfishers, iguanas and bats all thanks to our boat captain and guide's sharp eyes.
They also offer this tour by way of kayak and visitors can choose which one they'd like to do. Kayaking through the mangroves allows you to get closer to wildlife without disturbing them and to go through channels where large motorized boats can't go.
For anyone who wants a fantastic, leisurely wildlife watching experience in Manuel Antonio, the Damas Island is an excellent tour, especially for families.
We just finished the Damas Island mangrove tour, it was very beautiful, it was actually really cool we got to go around the mangroves to learn about the different types of trees and saw a lot of wildlife. So I hope you guys enjoy this video and if you want to learn more about doing this tour just click on the links below and thank you for watching.

Manuel Antonio National Park Tour
LOOKING FOR THE ULTIMATE NATURE RESERVE? PARK IT RIGHT HERE
In the late 1960's the Costa Rican government made a decision to preserve these magnificent forests and coastline with their rich marine wildlife. Fortunately 560 hectares was finally established as a National Park in 1972. The adjacent islands are refuge for a great number of sea birds that -together with mainland birds- make up around 350 different species.
Manuel Antonio is one of Costa Rica's most famous National Parks and was rated in the top 10 most beautiful National Parks in the world BY FORBES Magazine in 2011!. Following a professional nature interpreter along this moderate three-hour walk will open your eyes to the wonders of this tropical forest and its natural history. You can expect to see various species of monkeys, plus white nosed coati-mondis, sloths, agoutis, butterflies, iguanas and various birds. After the tour, we suggest that you spend some time enjoying the beautiful beaches within the park, so take along your bathing suit and beach towel and just catch a later hotel shuttle bus.
Remember to ask about reserving a tour at the Manuel Antonio Nature Park and Wildlife Refuge and experience Costa Rica's most unique butterfly gardens as well as Crocodile lagoons and Jungle Night Tours!

Although it is the smallest national park in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio National Park is the most visited national park in the country and the second most visited in Latin America. Just 3 hours from San Jose International Airport, Manuel Antonio is one of the must see places in Costa Rica thanks to the beautiful white sand beaches and exotic wildlife.
For anyone who really wants to see wildlife in the park, we highly recommend getting a guide. Manuel Antonio National Park is home to over 300 species of birds, over 100 species of mammals and over 300 species of plants. In this park alone, you can see three different types of monkeys and both the two and 3 fingered sloths.
By getting a guide, you will have greater chances to see the wildlife. Our guide found lots of interesting animals for us like sloths, a laughing falcon, insects and other birds and he shared a lot of fascinating information about the rainforest, beaches and mangroves inside the park. You can find guides to hire at the entrance of the national park or you can book a tour which also includes transportation and the national park entrance fee.
The park has several trails, including one universal access trail and you can hike to a waterfall and to several different viewpoints. There are a few beaches inside the park which are very nice for swimming.
It's worth spending one full day at Manuel Antonio National Park to enjoy the stunning beaches, hike a little through the lush rainforest and see the wildlife that call this amazing place home.

There are more than 500,000 animal and plant species in Costa Rica, making the nation one of the 20 most biodiverse countries in the world. For this reason, it is an incredible place to come and see unique and abundant wildlife and features 32 national parks, 51 wildlife refuges, 13 forest reserves, and eight biological reserves. The opportunity to encounter native animals is quite high! Wildlife is everywhere in Costa Rica though, not just in protected areas, so keep your eyes peeled and enjoy the vast natural wonders of this magical place.
Tapir
Tapirs eat mostly fruit, leaves, and twigs and play a very important role in dispersing seeds in the deciduous dry forests and tropical evergreen forests of Costa Rica. As adults, they can weight between 150–300 kilograms (331–661 pounds). These solitary forest giants have a unique, but functional look; they have an elongated upper lip that looks like a short elephant trunk, which helps them grab their food. Your best chances of spotting a tapir are in the Corcovado National Park, Santa Rosa National Park, or Monteverde Cloud Forest.
Peccary
Peccaries are adorable little wild pigs found in the deciduous dry forest, tropical rainforests, low-lying shrub forests, and agricultural areas in Costa Rica. They are quite resourceful and adaptable and live in herds of between three and 30 other peccaries, maintaining a hierarchical structure within their herd. Peccaries are also very vocal and can get aggressive in disputes over water.
Coati
While coatis, also known as coatimundis, are most common in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, they can be seen all over the country. They love the hot, dry forests as well as the cooler mountainous areas and everything in between. They are carnivores that feast mainly on insects, eggs, fruits, and nuts, but they are also scavengers. Coatis are very social animals that typically travel around in groups, and they also don’t seem to be afraid of humans and associate us with food, so be careful not to get too close to them.
White-faced capuchin
White-faced capuchin monkeys are common throughout the dry forests, rainforests, and cloud forests of Costa Rica. They are a highly intelligent animal and live in large social groups that can reach as many as 30. Capuchins are not picky eaters; they eat everything from insects and eggs to fruit and flowers. Costa Rica has a very healthy population, and they are commonly seen in the Manuel Antonio National Park and all along the Osa Peninsula.
Ocelot
The ocelot, called manigordo in Spanish, lives in deciduous forests, primary and secondary rainforests, and valleys in Costa Rica. This beautiful wild cat has huge feet, which is how it got its Spanish name, which translates to “fat hand.” They are very secretive and rarely seen in the wild, so if you see one, consider yourself incredibly lucky! However, you can see them at wildlife sanctuaries, such as La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park. Their favorite foods are iguanas and peccaries.
Three-toed sloth
The three-toed sloth is definitely on the list of the most bizarre animals in Costa Rica, but it is also one of the cutest. The slow-moving cloud forest and rainforest resident lives high up in the treetops. They climb down to the forest floor once a week so that they can eliminate waste. Your best chance of spotting one is in Manuel Antonio, the Osa Peninsula, or Tortuguero. You can also learn more about them at the Sloth Sanctuary or Sloth Institute.
Rhinoceros beetle
The rhinoceros beetle, sometimes called the elephant beetle, is probably the most jaw-droppingly amazing bug in Costa Rica. This giant beetle weighs between 18–28 grams and can be between 55–80 millimeters (2.1–3.1 inches) long. These impressive insects live in low-lying rainforests, and visitors can often see them in the Tortuguero National Park, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Corcovado National Park, and Palo Verde National Park. While they might look like scary forest monsters, they are completely harmless.
Jesus Christ lizard
The Jesus Christ lizard, or basilisk lizard, is one impressive reptile. It feeds on winged insects, small fish, freshwater shrimp, and even other lizards, snakes, and birds, and for that reason, it needs to be exceptionally quick if it is going to catch its prey, which it is. It can literally run on water! Visitors can see this bright green and ornate reptile in the Osa Peninsula. It likes low-elevation rainforest areas.

Manuel Antonio Nature Park & Wildlife Refuge GT 120809 WLR
The Manuel Antonio Nature Park and Wildlife Refuge is a 30 acre private refuge with nature exhibit tours with 1500 meters of guided trails, designed for all ages, conveniently located between Quepos and Manuel Antonio.
The Wildlife Refuge is currently researching and developing nature exhibits to help protect and reproduce local species in danger of extinction, including orchids, bromeliads, reptiles (turtles, caimans and crocodiles), and various butterfly species, including their host plants which are being planted in the Refuge properties.
There are three prominent exhibits, including Butterfly Botanical Gardens, an impressive Aquatic Garden, and the unique Reptile Lagoons as well as Medicinal Gardens and recycle programs. The Manuel Antonio Nature Park guided tours, including the very popular Jungle Night Tour, are part of a living laboratory of nature conservancy, an example of sustainable development, and where you will see a variety of Flora and Fauna, including monkeys, agoutis, and precious tropical hardwood trees. One of the most unique animals to observe here, is the titi or squirrel monkey (Siamiri oerstedii), which lives in a limited area in this region and is consider in danger of extinction.
As a conservation project, the mission is the protection of the wildlife and the education of the public to better appreciate these natural resources we depend upon for our survival. The guided tours are in English or Spanish. GT 120809 WLR

Welcome to frog tv - I'm Adam Baker.
For this episode I'm here at the picturesque Arenas del Mar rainforest resort. Behind me you can see the iconic cathedral point - one of the most famous views here in Costa Rica, it is of course the Manuel Antonio National park.
In this video we'll be focusing on some of the highlights of this lush rainforest-beach location that offers the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Manuel Antonio is located on Costa Rica's lush, Central Pacific Coast and is around a three hour drive from the capital - San Jose, or a short 20 minute domestic flight into the Quepos Airport.
The areas enviable location on the Central Pacific ensures warm, tropical year-round weather, meaning there is plenty to choose from year round between the beach and rainforest.
Established in 1972 the Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest National Park in the country, and yet it remains one of the most visited. In 2011, Forbes named it 'one of the 12 most beautiful national parks in the world.'
The protected area is home to hundreds of species, including many famous faces such as the three-toed sloth, the capuchin, howler and squirrel monkey, as well as many feathered friends.
The area offers a great selection of exciting tours. Everything from parasailing to surf lessons, and rainforest nature hikes to adrenaline fueled ATV tours. The small beachfront village also offers a fine variety of local arts and crafts for souvenirs, making this area perfect for everyone.
Being one of the most popular places to visit in Costa Rica means you have plenty of fine options when it comes to hotels.
The Arenas del Mar Resort has perhaps the best location of all. Located on the beach, it overlooks the National Park from within the rainforest - offering breathtaking views and easy beach access. With its renowned service, comfortable suites and fine dining, means Arenas del Mar is perfect for romantic getaways & connecting with nature.
For larger groups Buena Vista Villas is ideal. This property has its own private access to a secluded beach that is surrounded by wildlife. The two and three bedroom villas are great for families, and it's location just above the local town means there are many good dining spots nearby.
For a smaller, intimate boutique hotel La Mansion Inn provides the answer. Offering an exciting selection of suites, fine views from the sky lounge, and fresh bistro meals at the Jacques Cousteau Restaurant. The famous 'Bat Cave' bar is undoubtedly a highlight - making your stay here utterly unique.
Now don't just take his word for it - this region is truly amazing. Going from tropical rainforest to golden sand beaches in a matter steps!
Catch me next time for more info on everything Costa Rica!
For Frog TV I'm Adam Baker,
Hasta la proxima.
