Bird watching and wildlife tour with cutural attractions in Sri Lanka
This video was created by Paul Seligman form Wales. He and his partner Janet Dawes toured for 14 days in Sri Lanka. The tour was led by Prasanjith Caldera of Walk With Jith (walk withjith.com). They toured many cultural, birding, and wildlife in central, western and southern Sri Lanka; Colombo, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Udawalawa, Sinharaja, and Kitulgala. This could be very useful for anyone to get an idea about a tour in Sri Lanka. Paul and Janet are now very good friends of Prasanjith. Parasanjith visited them twice in UK when he attended the British Bird Fair in 2006 and 2007. Paul and Janet helps and advises on developing Prasanjith's tour company, Walk With Jith.

So Sri lankaa ???????? (Colombo, Habarana, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, Beruwala and Galle)
Hello guys, I know it's been a really long break from editing but I am back with another travel video and this time we kicked off 2019 with a trip to Sri Lanka!
Alot of temples, sweaty treks, waterfalls and breathtaking beaches.
If you liked the video, you know the drill!
If you are travelling to Sri Lanka any time soon, down below i have given a brief description about my trip and therefore head start to plan your trip.
So we boarded from Delhi and it took us roughly 4 hours to reach Colombo. Through out this trip, we will be covering 6 major cities of Sri Lanka.
So we hired a minibus from Colombo and travelled to Habarana, which is a 3-hour drive. Habarana is famous for its elephant safari and open grasslands.
Maintain silence when inside the park as there have been incidents where the elephants charge on the jeeps due to annoyance.
We travelled a month later to the terrorist attacks, so apparently, the tourism sector went down and we got personalised services all the time. Plus point!
From Habarana, we started early for the UNESCO World Heritage site, The Sigiriya Rock. It is also considered to be the 8th wonder of the world and the view astonished me with the unique harmony between nature and human imagination. I’ll advise you to hire a local guide to know more about the systematically planned architecture. It is a must visit if you are in Sri Lanka.
The guide also told us there is a long queue for the trek during the peak season, so be well before time.
Next stop was Kandy, which is the hill capital of Sri Lanka. It is a small town situated amidst the hills. The weather was chilly so carry your fleece.
In Kandy, visit the famous temple of the ancient tooth relic, situated in the Royal Complex of the former kingdom of Kandy!
It's a Buddhist temple, so make sure you are covered entirely.
You should visit the local sweet vendors and try their authentic Lankan sweets!
Next in line is Nuwara Eliya, which is apparently is the place where Seeta Maa was held in captivatio also known Ashoka Vatika.. Nuwara Eliya is a hill station so the temperature drops significantly. Do carry warm clothes.
Make sure you visit Lake Gregory, which is the heart of the tea country hill city. It is famous for its tea plantations, so don’t forget to spill some tea, sis.
Shoutout to Indian summer for serving us the best Indian food in Lanka, situated right next to the lake in Nuwara Eliya.
On our way to Nuwara Eliya, we stopped to see the Ramboda waterfall surrounded by the tea plantations.
One can take a quick break, and enjoy the view with some good tea and snacks!
Onto my favourite city, Beruwala has the most chill vibe and one can enjoy water sports and snorkel out there!
We relaxed at the beach and spent the majority of the time in the pool!
Next day, we visited the city of Galle which was a Portuguese town. It has a beautiful aesthetic vibe to it and don’t forget to get clicked near the lighthouse.
Do visit the mama’s cafe, which is the original cafe of a very famous cafe chain in Sri Lanka.
Galle has very vintage shops, so one can buy antiques from there.
One can also visit Mirrisa, for the blue whale sightings in the Indian Ocean. But it’s risky when its raining and the sea is rough.
On our way back we stopped at Bentota for the river safari, which was sad so you can skip it. I’ll advise you to spend your time at the beach, and watch the sun go down.
The last day we planned to visit, Colombo, where one can do a day tour and visit the Odel mall for souvenirs.
Sri Lanka is a small and beautiful place to visit. Don’t forget to drink there most special coconut water.
Also be careful with the spices, because they have their meals cooked in a lot of spices.
By train across Sri Lanka | DW Documentary
Asia’s most beautiful railway line? The “Main Line” cuts through tea plantations and jungle, then passes Buddhist temples and relicts of the British Empire.
In the 19th century the British built a railway in what was then their colony of Ceylon. Their idea was to transport goods such as tea from the highlands to the port of Colombo. Today it’s mainly only locals and tourists who use the so-called Main Line. The route is considered one of the most picturesque in the whole of Asia.
Our trip takes us from the capital, Colombo, to Ella in the highlands. Our first stop is one of the country’s largest elephant orphanages. And then on to Kandy, the former capital of the Singhalese kingdom. The city is home to the famous Temple of the Tooth, which is said to house the Buddha’s top left canine. The train then winds its way further up into the highlands. We watch tea pickers at work and go to a tea factory to discover where the aroma comes from. Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s highest town at an altitude of almost 1900 meters, where a racecourse still brings the colonial era back to life. The stations have also retained their own colonial charm: in 1901, a signaling system was set up to make the long journey safer. And those suffering from the altitude can catch their breath at the final stop, the spa in Ella.

The island of Sri Lanka is a herpetological hotspot and a melting pot of the fauna from the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. This expedition brings the team from the tropical rainforests over the highland plateaus and the mountain ranges to the lowland plains in the north of the island.
The aim of the expedition is to photograph, to film and to collect data of the herpetofauna and to make an inventory of the animals occurring in this isolated ecosystem.

One of the most exotic breath-taking locations you'll ever find in Srilanka belong to Nuwara Eliya, fondly known as the 'city of light'. Encompassed by green hills, wafting of Fresh tea leaves, you might mistake it for heaven. Nuwara Eliya is one of the most important tea growing provinces of Sri-lanka. Located in Central Province to the south of this island country, city touches Pidurutalagala, tallest mountain of Srilanka. Its beauty can be described the very explorer who founded the city, Samuel baker, the man famous for discovering Nile. Nuwara Eliya provides multiple numbers of attractions, from golf course to mind soothing streams, to boating and fishing in its lakes. Victoria Park is one of the most popular and loved tourists' parks. It not only provides an opportunity to embrace nature but also silent speculation of birds. Due to its locations city is home to various elusive species of birds. One can further their wild-life experience by visiting the Horton Plains National Parks. Rich in diversity, park provides thrill of adventure, and a rare opportunity to observe up close very rare woody plants and birds. Bale bazaar is the ultimate local shopping destination for tourists. The city also boats its cultural heritage and diversity with Seetha Eliya temple and Holy Trinity church. Seetha Eliya is a place of mythological importance to Hindus, as it is speculated that Sita was kept in the temple when kidnapped by mighty king Ravana. The architecture of Nuwara Eliya can be closely related to British Architecture, as it was built in early 19th century. The city has velvet of grass spread around and gives a semblance of suburban country home.

Best Places to Visit in Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Nuwara Eliya is often referred to by the Sri Lankan tourist industry as ‘Little England’. While most British visitors struggle to recognise modern England in Nuwara Eliya, the toy-town ambiance does have a rose-tinted English country village feel to it, though it comes with a disorienting surrealist edge. Three-wheelers whiz past red telephone boxes. Water buffalo daubed in iridescent dye for the Tamil Thai Pongal festival mingle outside a pink, brick Victorian post office. A well-tended golf course morphs seamlessly into a rolling carpet of tea plantations. The dusty and bustling center of town is a thoroughly Sri Lankan tangle, but scratch the surface a little to reveal colonial bungalows, well-tended hedgerows and pretty rose gardens.
In earlier times, Nuwara Eliya (meaning ‘City of Light’) was the favoured cool-climate escape for the hard-working and hard-drinking English and Scottish pioneers of Sri Lanka’s tea industry. A rainy-day, misty-mountain atmosphere blankets the town from November to February so don’t come expecting tropical climes. But during April’s spring release, the town is crowded with domestic holidaymakers enjoying horse racing and sports-car hill climbs, and celebrating the Sri Lankan New Year. The cost of accommodation escalates wildly, and Nuwara Eliya becomes a busy, busy party town. For the rest of the year, the economy is based on tea, cool-climate vegetables, tourism and even more tea. Treat yourself to a night at one of Nuwara Eliya’s colonial hotels, play a round of golf and a few frames of billiards, and escape into the town’s curious combination of heritage and the here-and-now.
The town has an abundance of touts eager to get a commission for a guesthouse or hotel. They’ll intercept you on arrival at Nanu Oya train station with fabricated reports of accommodation being closed, cockroach-infested or just plain crooked. Just ignore them.
