Suzdal, Vladimir Oblast, Russia - smallest of the Russian Golden Ring towns
Suzdal is a town and the administrative center of Suzdalsky District in Vladimir Oblast, Russia, located on the Kamenka River, 26 kilometers north of the city of Vladimir, the administrative center of the oblast.
Suzdal is one of the oldest Russian towns. In the 12th century it became the capital of the principality, with Moscow being merely one of its subordinate settlements. Nowadays Suzdal is the smallest of the Russian Golden Ring town, but a major tourist attraction. Several of its monuments are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Suzdal is a cluster of ancient towns northeast of Moscow. The Suzdal Kremlin is a centuries-old fortress. Within its ramparts, the Cathedral of the Nativity has gold-starred domes and 13th-century frescoes. The Archbishop's Chambers has striking 15th-century icons. North, the Monastery of St. Euthymius features the white stone Transfiguration Cathedral and history exhibits.
The main industry in the town is tourism. Suzdal avoided the industrialisation of the Soviet times and was able to preserve a great number of stunning examples of the Russian architecture of the XIII-XIX century. There are 305 monuments and listed buildings in Suzdal, including 30 churches, 14 bell towers and 5 monasteries and convents. 79 of them are federally protected buildings and 167 are regionally protected.

City in Russia
Chelyabinsk is a city in west-central Russia, close to the Ural Mountains. Ulitsa Kirova, a pedestrianized street, is lined with statues of figures such as a beggar and a man with a top hat.
Nearby, the Regional Museum displays part of the meteor that exploded over the city in 2013. To the west, the pine tree-lined Y.A. Gagarin Central Park has an ice rink, and Chelyabinsk Zoo is home to leopards and polar bears.

The character of Russia revealed through traditional dress
(29 Jun 2016) LEAD IN:
A new exhibition in Moscow of traditional national dress is promising to reveal the essence of Russia.
The colourful garments, and rich jewellery that make up the Festive costumes of the Russian people come from as far afield as the shores of the Volga to the snows of Siberia and the Far East.
STORY-LINE
This bejewelled headdress could be straight out of a Russian fairytale.
And in a showcase nearby, vividly embroidered dresses invoke the Russian pastoral scene.
These outfits would have been worn by peasant girls on the steppes of central Russia in the 18th and 19th centuries.
They are part of a new exhibition at the Moscow State History Museum - Festive costumes of the Russian people.
The folk costumes originate from communities all over Russia, from Smolensk and the Perm region all the way to Yakutia and the Far East.
According to the State History Museum's director, Alexei Levykin, the collection contains 400,000 items and is the first of its kind in the Russian Federation.
Festive clothing best characterises the culture of a nation, its traditions, and views of beauty. That's why, to answer the question 'what is Russia?' you must see it all – and here you are able to see it in a (broad presentation), Levykin explains.
Much of the national clothing included in the exhibit reflects the ethnicity, region and social status of the bearer.
This brightly coloured warrior headdress and these fur boots from the Nanai community in Russia's Far East, are designed to ward off evil spirits and dark forces of nature.
Russia has a really unique culture. On the one hand, Russian culture is very aggressive in the positive sense of the word, because it's really dynamic – it has an active influence on the other nations that surround it. But aggressive in a positive sense, because it is really sensitive. It is like a sponge that extracts all the best elements, processes them and puts them out again. Maybe this is what has united our country for so many years and today. Because (despite the) different languages, different cultures and different history – we are all generally the same. And that's very visible in the exhibition, says Levykin.
The costumes in the exhibit not only demonstrate a broad variety of craftsmanship, but also the unique materials required for making them, ranging from hemp canvas and linen, to fur and hardened fish skin.
The exhibit's creative director, Olga Gordeeva, believes it's crucially important to preserve Russia's multinationalism, because each culture and community has its own powerful cultural stream.
If we all follow the same type of European costume, which consists of a suit and shirt, we lose a really important source of beauty and national consciousness, Gordeeva says.
The exhibition runs until 3 October, 2016.

Не знаю, как у вас, но всю свою жизнь я слышу от родителей: ну будь осторожен, ну не привлекай к себе лишнее внимание, не высовывайся – это очень опасно; и вообще мы простые люди – от нас ничего не зависит.
Мои родители – прекрасные люди, я безумно их люблю. Но они говорят все это десятилетиями - даже в тех ситуациях, где очевидно нарушается здравый смысл, где творится несправедливость и где мы точно правы.
Я всегда думал: откуда у старшего поколения этот страх, это стремление мазать все серой краской? Почему они боятся, что даже за минимальную смелость обязательно прилетит наказание? Моя гипотеза: этот страх зародился еще в прошлом веке и через поколения добрался до нас. Одно из мест, где этот страх появлялся, - Колыма.
Для максимального погружения мы проехали всю трассу Колыма. 2000 км тяжеленной дороги. 9 дней пути. И лютый, просто неправдоподобный мороз.
Как люди жили здесь тогда, во время репрессий? Как люди жили после? Как живут люди сейчас?
Все это нам было интересно и важно узнать нам. Все, что узнали, мы рассказываем вам.

Мы в Португалии, на мысе Рока, самой западной точке континентальной Европы.
Уже неделю мы находимся в пути и снимаем новый сложносочиненный выпуск.
Один из самых грустных фактов про Россию звучит так: больше 50 процентов населения нашей страны никогда не были за границей.
Понятно, что основная причина – в том, что люди за пределами Москвы и еще пары городов живут очень скромно.
Но параллельно с этим уже много лет нам рассказывают, как же за пределами России плохо. Эмигранты, гей-парады, бездуховность – ну вы сами все знаете.
Наша позиция: путешествия – это неотъемлемая часть процветания и прогресса. Если ты видишь, как устроен чужой мир, тебе гораздо проще обустраивать мир собственный. Ну а если где-то действительно плохо, лучше узнавать об этом самому, а не по пламенным речам людей из телевизора.
Поэтому мы придумали следующее:
1. Выбрали очень классный и – важное – НЕпопсовый маршрут по Европе.
2. Взяли с собой человека, который не так искушен путешествиями, как мы.
Те, кто смотрел наш выпуск про Колыму, наверняка помнят Антоху – нашего водителя, очень яркого парня, который появился всего на пару минут, но покорил абсолютно всех. Антохе 33 года и он никогда не был за пределами стран бывшего Советского Союза.
Мы проехали почти 1500 километров от Страны Басков до Лиссабона – таким образом, чтобы Антоха, житель самого востока Евразии, оказался в самой западной ее точке.
У выпуска, который вы увидите, две задачи:
1. Интересно провести время
2. Показать, что мир – большой и классный. И гораздо лучше быть частью это мира, а не настороженно смотреть на него из-за забора.
