(EN) The Naulakha Palace is the oldest extant palace in Gondal, dating back to the 17th century. It has legendary stone carvings with exquisite jharokhas (balconies), a fabulous pillared courtyard, delicately carved arches, and a unique spiral staircase. The large chandelier-lit durbar hall (court house) witnesses stuffed panthers, gilt wooden furniture, and antique mirrors. The Private palace museum displays an impressive display of silver caskets which were in the services of carrying messages and gifts for Maharajah Bhagwat Sinhji on his silver jubilee as ruler of Gondal.

The palace is situated in Gondal city, which is well connected by road, rail and air services. It is located 38 kilometres (24 mi) away from Rajkot, which is also the airport (40 kilometres (25 mi) away) and rail head.
Gondal was the capital city of a Jadeja Rajput clan.[5] The Naulakha Palace is said to be the oldest palace in the Gondal area. It has very exclusive architectural features of arcades, jharokas, a royal audience hall (durbar hall) (which is still used by the present Maharaja), a winding stairway, shining chandeliers, decorated mirrors and antique furnishings.[4] It is a unique triple storied edifice with an open arcade with stone carvings on the first floor flanked by towers. The eaves above the stone fittings on this floor are carved with sculptures of real and mythical animals. A part of the first floor also houses a museum which has elegant architectural features over the rooms with carvings made out of wood and stone over its doors. The exhibits in the museum include artifacts collected by the Maharaja of a large number of toy cars, pictures, a library of books, trophies and so forth. The decorated balcony provides scenic views of the Gondal town. The side room on the left side of the palace has exhibits of kitchen ware and a pair of huge weighing balance; the weighing balance was used on special celebrations of the Maharaja's birthdays when he used to be weighed in gold equivalent which would then be donated to the poor. Another interesting scene noted near a bridge over the river is the reflected image of the palace.
Naulakha Palace is situated within Darbargardh (an old fort complex), which was built during the 18th century (1748[1]), with a number of additional structures built in subsequent years. The main approach to the complex is through a curved gateway structure with a clock tower which rises in three tiers above the gateway. The palace is at the far end from the gate and is fronted by a rectangular forecourt.The palace has an overview of the Gondal River.
There are many other structures within the complex,such as the Huzoor Palace, a large building which is currently the residence of the royal family; the Orchard Palace, a wing of the Huzoor; and the Riverside Palace, which is 1.26 kilometres (0.78 mi) away from Naulakha.[5][2][6][4] An adjoining zenana is in a state of ruin. It is flanked by two statues of guards and has stone tracery architectural features on its upper floor. The Gori Pir, a Muslim shrine (dargah) of a saint is within the courtyard.An old railway saloon, which is displayed in the gardens, has basic accommodation of a bedroom, dining room, and bathroom with period fitments

Navlakha Palace, also called Naulakha Palace, is a royal brahmin palace situated in town of Rajnagar, near Madhubani in Bihar. This Palace was built by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga. This Palace suffered extensive damage during the earthquake of 1934 and was not rebuilt thereafter. Now this palace is in ruins. The oldest surviving Madhubani painting (done in the year 1919, on occasion of the marriage of Shrimati Lakshmi Daiji, daughter of Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga) is found in the gasauni ghar (the room where the family deity is kept) of this Palace.

In December 1911,rulers of all the princely states in India attended the Delhi Durbar in their custom-made Rolls Royce cars. But Gondal ruler Bhagwatsinhji was an exception. He used a pony-driven carriage, Landau,to attend the ceremony, commemoration of the coronation of the King and Queen of England.
Nearly 100 years later,the royal family has restored the four-pony driven carriage and put it on public display at a one of its kind private museum. The Landau carriage and the 21 others on display were used by the royal family at different times. According to museum manager Durgesh Jadeja,all the 22 carriages have their own specialty and were built for specific purpose.
Landau was built in 1881 and was the personal carriage of the then and last ruler of Gondal,Bhagwatsinhji. When other rulers were fond of Rolls Royce cars,Bhagwatsinhji,a reformer,who gifted his state with the first private railway and underground electricity lines, preferred his carriage. He even took it to Delhi by train to attend the Delhi Durbar, said Jadeja.
The stable at Naulakha Palace,one of the three palaces in Gondal, has now been converted into a museum personally built by crown prince Jyotindrasinhji and his wife Kumudkumari Ba. The museum has on display a rare collection of 40 vintage cars. The new section was inaugurated on Sunday.
The palace was built in 1748 AD in the Darbargadh or walled palace complex. Since then it has been extended by the successive rulers. The façade is a stone carving with splendid sculpture,relief,carved columns and ornate jarokha balconies.
The former living quarters of the palace have been converted into a private museum exhibiting textiles,brassware,royal wardrobes,library and silver caskets that carried gifts and messages for Bhagwatsinhji on special occasions like his golden jubilee as the ruler of Gondal. Other artefacts on display include the weighing scales on which he was weighed against gold on his golden jubilee with the proceeds going to charity,trophies won by the Gondal princes at motorsports events,and a collection of toys,which include 1,800 wooden pieces hand-painted with natural colours.
Erstwhile rulers have displayed royal carriages at private museums,but this is perhaps the one of its kind of museum with as many as different 22 carriages on display representing an era. On display is a Zebra Baghi,which was pulled by a zebra,goods carrier,special carriages for queen and princess,horse driven carriages and four-pony driven carriages.
Of the 50 carriages still available at the palace,22 have been restored. The restoration took more than a year. All of them have been freshly polished and painted; the paint has been kept original. In many of the carriages,the original parts were found missing,which have now been restored with the help of local artisans, Jadeja added.

The 11-gun salute princely state of Gondal spanned an area of about 1000 sq miles comprising four towns and more than 175 villages. The state was ruled by a dynasty of the Krishna-vanshi Jadeja Rajput clan from Thakur Shri Kumboji in the 1600s.
It was modernised by His Highness Thakore Shri Sagramji who ruled from 1851 to 1869 and became a first-class princely state in 1887 after His Highness Maharaja Bhagwat Sinhji introduced wide-ranging economic and social reforms. Under HH Bhagwat Sinhji, the state became distinguished for its number of educational and public institutions, and for possessing infrastructure that did not exist even in larger princely states or in areas under direct British rule.
