Subhas Chandra Bose, generally referred as Netaji, was one of the greatest leaders of Indian independence movement. He was a stubborn and straight forward person who did struggle for the people of India in the british era after taking control of the INA, the-then Indian National Army. His parents were Mr. Janakinath Bose (father) and Mrs. Pravabati Bose (mother). His birth place was Cuttack, Odisha and the date of birth is 23rd January, 1897. After schooling, his parents moved to Kolkata and started to reside in this 38/2, Elgin Road house. His real and actual house ( now it is named as Netaji Bhawan) at Elgin Road, Kolkata, near Netaji Bhavan metro station, is regularly visited by many tourists and followers. Subhas Chandra Bose was the key person of India's freedom struggle and founder of Azad Hind Fauj, and Swami Vivekananda was his role model in life. After many ups and downs in his political career, the-then british rulers succeeded to arrest him and kept him in house-arrest in this house. His older brother, barrister Sarat Chandra Bose, helped him to escape from this house on 17th January, 1941 and he began his final journey to Europe to meet the world leaders for India's freedom movement. Death of Subhas chandra Bose is still a mystry. This house now turned into a museum which was established by Dr. Sisir Kumar Bose in the year 1957 and bears many photographs and exhibits of his used items.
A bengali language TV serial (Television Show) is now playing on Zee Bangla and ZEE5 under Zee Entertainment Enterprises, everyday on his life, named Netaji - নেতাজি and has became very popular. A very good male actror, Abhishek Bose is acting as Netaji in all the episodes of that natok on Zee Bangla (Indian Bangla story). One of the featured title song, e je subhas e je subhas, and the patriotic song Qadam Qadam Badaye ja (Kadam kadam) as netaji birthday song has became very popular. The other casting of netaji serial zee bangla includes Basabdatta Chatterjee. One of the reasons of numerous number of visitors to see the house is the increasing popularity of this TV show on Subhas Chandra Bose's life. Among many other tv serials, named nakshi kantha, bakul kotha, trinoyoni, krishnakoli, srimoyee, Rani Rashmoni, this serial Netaji has a good TRP rating.

As one of the main Kolkata tourist places, Netaji Bhawan or real residence of Subhas Chandra Bose is open to all to see at daytime. Tickets are available at ground floor for Rs 10/- for adults and for Rs. 5/- for children. Museum is on 1st floor and 2nd floor.
While other tourist attractions in Kolkata like Rani Rashmani Bhawan don't have museums and used articles of those great persons preserved but here museum has been established to commemorate Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Many full movies on Netaji Subhas ji like bose: the forgotten hero, Gumnaami are very popular.

NETAJI BHAWAN in Calcutta, the ancestral house of Subhas Chandra Bose, is for Indians of all regions and of all classes a place of national pilgrimage. On 23rd January 1947, Sarat Chandra Bose dedicated this historic house to the nation. The Netaji Museum, established here in 1961 by Netaji Research Bureau, is a full-fledged biographical museum organized on the basis of a vast amount of materials relating to Netaji, collected from all parts of the world. A storehouse of inspiration and enlightenment, it attracts thousands of visitors all the year round. During Netaji Birthday week in January ,the rush is particularly heavy. So, in order to have a really good look at the museum, it is perhaps better to choose some other time.

Netaji Bhawan, Calcutta, where the museum, archives and library of Netaji Research Bureau are located, is the ancestral house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose owned and managed by the Bureau. Netaji is regarded as a national hero in India and widely respected in the whole of Asia for his struggle and sacrifice for the liberation of India and all Asian peoples and the establishment of an international order based on justice, friendship and cooperation. The house is a national shrine and visited by thousands of Indians, many Asians and people from across the world all the year round. The Netaji Research Bureau, founded by Dr Sisir Kumar Bose in 1957, is an internationally renowned institute of history, politics and international relations. Netaji Museum is the finest museum on the Indian independence movement.
