Germany: New anti-terror police unit conducts drills near Berlin
Germany's new special anti-terror police unit, named the BFE+ (or 'Evidence-gathering and Arrest Unit Plus'), conducted drills at a training base in Blumberg, on the outskirts of Berlin, Wednesday. The new counter-terrorist unit was formed after the deadly attacks on Paris on November 13.
The main purpose of the unit is to combat terrorism, prevent terrorist attacks and protect civilians across Germany. Currently the unit is made up of 50 officers with plans to boost the number to 250 next year. The unit will support Germany's existing GSG 9 anti-terror force.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere and Federal Police Chief Dieter Romann observed Wednesday's drills.

Thousands of people from across all age groups marched in Berlin for climate strike on Friday.
Students and adults gathered at the Brandenburg gate where they began their march through Berlin city centre.
An estimate of 50 thousand people officially registered with local authorities for the demo, but many more are expected to have joined.
This new round of demonstrations was called on worldwide by climate change movements such as 'Fridays for Future' and 'Youth for climate' and comes alongside a general student strike.
The aim of the protest is to denounce the global climate crisis and to demand climate justice and effective policies from governments.
This round of actions comes ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) that will be held in Madrid on December 2-13.

Germany: 'End coal!' - Thousands hit Berlin streets to demand climate action

Thousands of people from all over Germany took to the streets of Berlin on Saturday, calling on the German government to ramp up measures to combat climate change.
Demonstrators demanded that Germany ends its reliance on coal-fired energy, with some environmental groups urging the government to phase out coal by 2030.
The march, which reportedly took place without any incidents, started and ended in front of the German Chancellery and Parliament.
One Berlin resident said that climate change is going to be a disaster. We saw that this summer. It was dry, and we might soon lack drinking water in Berlin.
Another protester who came to the protest from Oldenburg said, I am totally furious how much less climate change is being acknowledged, adding that it is extremely important that one does something about it.
A similar protest also took place in the western city of Cologne.

The Battle of Berlin, designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union, was the final major offensive of the European theatre of World War II.
When the Soviet offensive resumed on 16 April, two Soviet fronts (army groups) attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin. Before the main battle in Berlin commenced, the Red Army encircled the city after successful battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe. On 20 April 1945, the 1st Belorussian Front led by Marshal Georgy Zhukov started shelling Berlin's city centre, while Marshal Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front had pushed from the south through the last formations of Army Group Centre. Concurrently, Hitler called for the activation of Operation Clausewitz on the same date. Defenses in Berlin's city center were mainly led by General Helmuth Weidling. These units consisted of several depleted and disorganized Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS divisions, along with poorly trained Volkssturm and Hitler Youth members. Within the next few days, the Red Army reached the city centre where close-quarters combat raged.
Before the battle was over, German Führer Adolf Hitler and many other major officials of the Nazi regime committed suicide. The city's garrison surrendered on 2 May, but fighting continued to the north-west, west, and south-west of the city until the end of the war in Europe on 8 May (9 May in the Soviet Union) as German units fought westward so that they could surrender to the Western Allies rather than to the Soviets.

Art in Action 2, Berlin, Germany
From 21st of August -- 4th of September 2011, Art in Action, an international youth exchange, has been held in Plemetina Village (Obiliq/Obilic Municipality, Kosovo). 65 young people participated in this exchange, including 25 artists and activists from Germany, France, Kosovo and Serbia and 40 young Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians from the local community.
During two weeks, youth participated in different artistic workshops focusing on problems faced by Plemetina community. Through music, film, step dance, photography, and environmental activism, they analyzed problems together and explored solutions.
On the 3rd of September, Art in Action participants presented all their stories in a street action on Mother Teresa Street (main pedestrian street in Pristina) in front of an audience of about 250 people as one youth art event, under a common slogan:
Learn, Think, Act ! Plemetina to the Planet!
