Five Delaware state museums achieve national accreditation
The sites join Hagley Museum and Winterthur as the only accredited museums in Delaware.
After a year of self-study plus site visits by peer reviewers, Five Delaware state museums have been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The newly accredited sites are John Dickinson Plantation ear Kitts Hummock, the Johnson Victrola Museum and Old State House in Dover, the New Castle Court House Museum, and the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes.
We now count ourselves among that elite company along with many other museums across the United States, said Tim Slavin, director of the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs. [Nationally], there are 33,000 museums, roughly a little more than 1,000 or 3 percent have achieved this accreditation and it's a wonderful tribute to all of my colleagues.
Museum officials gathered at the New Castle Court House Museum to celebrate the recognition which state leaders hope will encourage residents and travelers to make plans to visit one or all of the sites.

Radon is a harmful, radioactive gas that is found in homes and businesses in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sites it as a leading cause of lung cancer. The gas occurs naturally in the ground and can seep into buildings. New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation specializes in testing methods that identify its presence and in effective removal. Radon has no color and no odor, making it difficult to identify without the assistance of New Castle, Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation. The EPA states that radon is in the rock and soil that underlies all areas of the United States. As it escapes from the ground, it can seep into homes or buildings that are above an affected area.
It is thought that radon results from the breakdown of uranium into radium. Professional New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation can test for the presence of the gas. Radon is everywhere and home or business owners need New Castle PA Radon Mitigation to determine the level of concentration. In buildings where the levels are too high, professional New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation can reduce them to acceptable levels. Air pressure in a building is lower than pressure in the ground, creating a vacuum-like suction that brings the gas inside through defects in foundations that New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation fix. The association between radon and lung cancer makes it important for owners of buildings to rely on New Castle, Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation for safe air quality.
The EPA indicates that radon can enter a home through a water supply, but New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation know that the soil method is the more common form of entry. New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation knows how to detect radon in a building and how to assess the level of concentration. New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation find levels of radon in homes and buildings that is more than three times as high as radon levels in the outdoor air. Through study and practice, New Castle, Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation is able to provide effective methods to reduce concentrations that are excessive. Anyone who suspects the presence of radon needs to select one of the qualified New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation specialists to test for it.
Professional inspectors who are accustomed to working with radon identification provide the most reliable information for concerned citizens. Home test kits are available, but the danger that is posed by misleading information makes it important to rely on one of the qualified New Castle, PA Radon Mitigation technicians for accurate readings. Techniques for reducing or eliminating radon often involve the placement of one or more suction points below the level of the foundation of a building. Additional methods that provide a way for gases to escape are used by New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation.
A pipe that extends above the roof of a building allows gases to bypass the interior living space. New Castle Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation performs extensive research to develop the most effective techniques that provide services that are helpful to home and business owners. The discovery of radon in a home or business building is often a matter of great concern, but owners can rely on professional New Castle PA Radon Mitigation to provide a satisfactory solution to the problem. The presence of radon does not represent a permanent condition with the expert assistance provided by New Castle, Pennsylvania Radon Mitigation. Call them today at 724-654-6004.

Medieval America 27: Six States from St Louis to Fargo
In this episode of my trip around America I continue my journey north in the center of the country. I traveled into six new states, and cover 1250 miles in the course of eight days traveling ever north from St. Louis Missouri all the way to Fargo North Dakota.
We stop at several castles and a major museum.
With this video and the previous video (episode 26) I went from the New Orleans at the south of America all the way north to Fargo North Dakota bifurcating the country. There was a big swing in temperate and a constant uphill climb. I also noticed now in this video that the terrain is changing there is a lot more open space with enormous open fields and gentle rolling hills, with much fewer trees. It is clear we are heading toward the prairie states.

Medieval America episode 20: Kentucky Castle
Medieval America Episode 20: Kentucky Castle
Kentucky Castle is a modern castle styled after a Norman Keep with a central keep and a curtain wall with towers going all the way around it. It is a functional Hotel, Restaurant, event center and tourist spot. It also has a working farm that grows vegetables, truffles and bees for it’s restaurant.
The day I visited they were having an outdoor event with lots of vendors. That is the area under the tent. It was a kind of farmers market.
I learned a lot from visiting this castle. And much of this will be useful to me when building my castle. The first big thing is that the curtain wall that goes all the way around the keep encloses an area called a bailey. And in this bailey you can have events, gardens, an apiary and more. They even have a tennis court in their bailey.
The second big thing that I learned from this castle is that they have a beautiful roof-top section where in the evening you can dine, dance, have drinks and have events. All under the stars. I like that a lot. My castle will have something like this.

Ladd's Castle West Deptford/Woodbury New Jersey (Axis Video)
Is there really a castle in West Deptford/Woodbury New Jersey?
Ladd's Castle/Candor Hall located at 1337 Lafayette Avenue Woodbury, NJ.
A blue, New Jersey Historical Marker sign on the property names, Ladds Castle, and describes the home as once belonging to, John Ladd, who helped Penn plan Philadelphia, built this house in 1688. The original name was Candor Hall.
Ladd's Castle is a historic building located in the Colonial Manor section of Woodbury, New Jersey.Ladd's Castle was built in 1688.
It was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places on October 31, 1972. Reference # 72000794. Designated a New Jersey Register of Historic Places March 15, 1972. NJRHP # 1425.
Ladd's Castle was built in 1688 by William Ladd, a surveyor who assisted William Penn to plan out Philadelphia. Ladd, came to Burlington in 1678 when he was approximately 21 years old.
Ladd became involved with the Proprietors of West Jersey even though he was never a member and was present at a general meeting in 1687. During this meeting, Ladd helped organize and create the council. At the first council meeting in 1688, Ladd signed a protest to Govenor William Burnett against the repeal of the law regarding the dividing line of East and West Jersey.
Later, Ladd had a hand in designing the city of Philadelphia. Ladd was employed by William Penn and therefore, assisted Pennsylvania's founding father in laying out the city of Philadelphia.
Legend has it that Penn offered Ladd a square in the best portion of Philadelphia, for thirty pounds. Ladd refused the land, and allegedly Penn said to him, thou art Ladd by name and Ladd by nature, dost thou not know that this will be a great city?
But Ladd had no interest in living in what would soon be a bustling city and, in 1688, purchased approximately 500 acres in West Deptford which fronted on the Delaware River. Shortly after, Ladd built a manor house which he called Candor Hall that sits on what is now known as Lafayette Street in West Deptford.
The water-front property was originally known as Corks Cove, then changed to Ladds Cove upon the familys arrival to the land. Now known as Ladds Castle, the main portion of the house was made of bricks that were made on the property, and had four chimneys. This main section was flanked on either end by expansive wings made from hewn timber.
A large brick kitchen once stood at the end of the north wing. The wings have since disappeared, but the brick, two-story portion still stands. Ladds Castle is said to be the oldest, brick house in Gloucester County.
