Belgrade's New Cemetery - Novo groblje Beograd
Belgrade Cemetery
Namur was attacked by the Germans on 20 August 1914; the forts were destroyed by heavy artillery, and at midnight on 23-24 the garrison was evacuated. The town then remained in German hands until the end of the war. Belgrade Cemetery contains 249 Commonwealth burials of the Great War, most of them dating from the ten months when casualty clearing stations were then posted to Namur after the Armistice. There is also one burial of the Second World War. The plots of Belgian, Soviet, Italian and French (mainly from 1914) troops are not described by the CWGC. Among the graves of the fallen of different nationalities there are graves of 16 Soviet prisoners of war and members of the Belgian Resistance. The burial was conducted approximately in 1942–1944 and represents a platform of 10x5 meters with the monument erected on it and sixteen gravestones with the names of the fallen. In 1994, in the central part of the site, a monument was erected by sculptor A. Burganov. The granite pedestal reads in Russian and French: “TO THE SOVIET SOLDIERS WHO DIED IN NAMUR. 1941–1945”. Ежегодно ветеранская организация г.Льеж, Посольства России в Бельгии и организаций российских соотечественников производят возложения цветов к могилам. Представители Русской православной церкви каждый год проводят панихиду по погибшим.
Visiting a Catholic Cemetery in Ratkovo, Serbia
A policeman from North Carolina asked me to try to find a picture of his great grandparents grave stones in the little village of Ratkovo, Serbia. It's located in the Vojvodina region of Serbia near Novi Sad... This cemetery was a Catholic cemetery that filled with lots of Germans.. It is too bad that the entire place was destroyed... The Albanians did this to the Serbs down in Kosovo, I was hoping that we didn't stoop to that level.. :( This is proof that every nation has a few idiots..

Putin is due to be presented with the Order of the Republic of Serbia by Nikolic, as well as hold bilateral talks with his Serbian counterpart. The Russian president is also expected to sign seven bilateral trade agreements as well as discuss the issue of the South Stream pipeline, intended to bring Russian gas through southern Europe.
Belgrade was liberated by the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Red Army on October 20, 1944. The anniversary, due to be marked with a military parade in the Serbian capital, was moved forward four days.

Second boy: Absolutely here, why not?

He should be buried in Moscow, or in Pozarevac (his hometown), but by no means in Belgrade, and not in the dignitaries area, he does not deserve it. And we don't want them (his supporters from the socialist party) to gather there. He doesn't deserve to buried here.

STORYLINE:
Controversy over Milosevic's burial site continued on Monday as people in the streets of Belgrade express mixed opinions about where Slobodan Milosevic should finally rest.
Milosevic's Socialist Party threatened on Monday to topple Serbia's minority government if the former Yugoslav president was not buried with state honours in Belgrade and if his widow was not allowed to attend.
Meanwhile, a Belgrade court dismissed a request by Milosevic family attorneys to waive an arrest warrant for the ex-president's widow to enable her to return from Russia for the funeral.
Serbia's pro-Western President Boris Tadic said late Sunday it was absolutely inappropriate for Milosevic to be buried with honours because it was Serbs who had toppled him in massive street protests in October 2000.
The Socialists said Milosevic should be buried at Belgrade cemetery's Alley of Heroes, the graveyard reserved for prominent Serbs.
The alternative, they said, would be his birthplace of Pozarevac, some 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Belgrade.
The Socialist party's 22 seats provide critical support for Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's coalition government, which has 108 legislators in the 250-seat assembly.
Milosevic's body was found in his bed early on Saturday at the U.N. detention centre at The Hague, Netherlands, where he had been on trial on war crimes and genocide charges stemming from the Balkan ethnic bloodletting of the 1990s.
Milosevic's legal adviser Zdenko Tomanovic said the ex-president's remains will be claimed by his son Marko either on Monday or Tuesday.
Although the family wanted a Belgrade burial, it remained unclear if Serbia would approve it, Tomanovic said.

SERBIA: BELGRADE: THOUSANDS ATTEND PREDRAG STARCEVIC'S FUNERAL
English/Nat
Thousands of people in Belgrade attended the funeral Saturday of Predrag Starcevic who died earlier in the week after a severe beating by supporters of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic
Starcevic was the first to be killed after more than a month of peaceful protests against the annulment of the November 17 local elections that the opposition had won.
Opposition supporters called off their daily protest in the capital Saturday to mourn his death.
Serbia's opposition leaders summoned their legions of supporters Saturday to the funeral of the first demonstrator to die in nearly six weeks of anti-government unrest in Belgrade.
About ten thousand supporters converged on Novo Groblje, the new Belgrade city cemetery, to pay their last respects to Predrag Starcevic.
The 39 year old was swept up in clashes on Tuesday between opposition protesters and supporters of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
He died after a severe beating by Milosevic's supporters.
Opposition leaders said the huge gathering at the funeral showed people were not prepared to put up such tactics from the government.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We want to show that we are not going to tolerate violence which is prepared by regime, so all of us came here with a lot of pain in our hearts because of that.

The three opposition leaders - Vuk Draskovic, Zoran Djindjic, and Vena Pesic - walked slowly behind the black hearse, along with Starcevic's widow, 10 Orthodox priests bearing lighted candles and about 50 mourners carrying wreaths.
At the top of the procession was a wooden cross and the victim's portrait.

Pancevo, Serbia ... Polluted City or Beautiful City?
I finally decided to take a trip to Pancevo, Serbia. I have a really good friend that lives there and he had told me all about the beautiful sites and places to visit. I really didn't believe him because all my Serbian friends told me so many negative things about Pancevo. They had told me things like it is the most polluted city in Serbia! You can't see your hand in front of your face due to all the smog! The second my buddy and I got off the bus, I was a little blown away. my friend walked me around the majority of the town that has a MASSIVE center park, a gorgeous massive church from the early 1800's, a restaurant in the shape of a big windmill, an old train that serves as a coffee shop, tons of unique and beautiful buildings, lots of little boat houses and bars on the river, and one restaurant that can only get to by boat! :) I saw none of the pollution or smog that I was warned about. Pancevo is beautiful!!! It is only a 20 minute bus ride from Belgrade!!! CHECK IT OUT!

SERBIA: BELGRADE: ARKAN BURIED
Natural Sound
The notorious Serbian underworld figure and U-N-indicted war criminal, Arkan, who was shot dead a few days ago, has now been buried at Belgrade's main cemetery.
Authorities in Serbia have detained at least two suspects connected to the murder of the paramilitary leader.
According to Serbian papers on Thursday, they're now searching for the man believed to have lead the assassins.
There was a crowd of thousands of onlookers and mourners outside Belgrade's main cemetery on Thursday as Arkan, who became notorious for his alleged war crimes in Croatia and Bosnia, was buried.
Four members of Arkan's paramilitary unit Tigers, dressed in camouflage uniforms and red berets were standing honour guard at the coffin.
Arkan, whose real name was Zeljko Raznatovic, was shot at the Belgrade's Intercontinental hotel on Saturday.
Rumours are still circulating about who was responsible for Arkan's murder.
There's speculation about the possible role of President Slobodan Milosevic's government.
Both Arkan and Milosevic were indicted by the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague for atrocities committed during wars in the former Yugoslavia.
Some observers believe Arkan may have been prepared to do business with the tribunal.
The latest newspaper reports, all citing unnamed police sources, said the investigation is making progress thanks to confessions from one of the assassins who was seriously wounded in the attack and is recovering under maximum security.
There are also reports that in addition to the wounded suspect, Dusan Gavric, the police have also arrested an accomplice at the northern border with Hungary when he tried to leave the country.
The pro-government daily Politika said the identity of a third man, the main culprit, has been established.
Other reports said Gavric was or still is employed by the police.
The police declined to make any comment.
In addition to Gavric and the second alleged suspect, the government-owned daily Politika said police had established the identity of a third man, described as the main culprit in the assassination.
At a memorial service on Wednesday Arkan was eulogized by, admirers, comrades-in-arms, and family, including his widow Ceca, a popular folk singer.
Arkan was a widely known Belgrade underworld figure who controlled gambling, betting and oil smuggling.
Before his death, rumors circulated that other mobsters might kill him to take over his businesses.
