New Tretyakov Gallery -- home to the Russian avant-garde
The younger sibling of Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery takes its visitors back to the USSR and beyond, gathering a whole century of Russian art under one roof. Located on Krymsky Val, not far from the Kremlin, it is a branch of the celebrated Tretyakov Gallery. While the original gallery houses Russian art from its earliest days to the late 19th century, this one, often referred to as the New Tretyakov, takes us into the modern era, from the 1900s to now.

MOSCOW RUSSIAN ART | Tretyakov Gallery & Amazing Food!
On our last full day in Moscow, Katie and I visited the Tretyakov Gallery, it was on of the Russian Museums you must see when in Moscow. They house some of the most well known artifacts and paintings in all of Russia, featuring Andrei Rublev and the Holy Trinity!
The Holy Trinity is one of the most famous and prestigious pieces of art in Russian history.
After, we visited some of the best Moscow food stops we loved from the earlier days on our trip.
It was a bit of a mixed day running around the city enjoying our last day at a relaxed pace, but we had an amazing time and truly loved our trip to Russia.
We look forward to returning one day!

Russia - Moscow - Tretyakov Gallery
The State Tretyakov Gallery is an art gallery in Moscow, Russia, the foremost depository of Russian fine art in the world.
The gallery's history starts in 1856 when the Moscow merchant Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov acquired works by Russian artists of his day with the aim of creating a collection, which might later grow into a museum of national art. In 1892, Tretyakov presented his already famous collection of approximately 2,000 works (1,362 paintings, 526 drawings, and 9 sculptures) to the Russian nation.
The façade of the gallery building was designed by the painter Viktor Vasnetsov in a peculiar Russian fairy-tale style. It was built in 1902–04 to the south from the Moscow Kremlin. During the 20th century, the gallery expanded to several neighboring buildings, including the 17th-century church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi.
The collection contains more than 130,000 exhibits, ranging from Theotokos of Vladimir and Andrei Rublev's Trinity to the monumental Composition VII by Wassily Kandinsky and the Black Square by Kazimir Malevich.

Russia - New exhibition at Tretyakov Gallery
T/I: 10:21:52
An art exhition featuring paintings of Catherine the Great and some of her belongings opened at Moscow's Tretyakov gallery on Tuesday (3/6).
Co-sponsored by Gazprom, Russia's largest company, and the German company Vintershall, the exhibition is one of the first events in the year-long celebration of Moscow's 850th birthday.
Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov officially opened the exhibition by recalling the contributions that Catherine the Great made to Russian culture and to the city of Moscow.

SOT Rem Vyahirev, President of Gazprom (in Russian) Gazprom is the very essence of a company that is fighting for unity within the Russian government and for a powerful Russian state, and therefore we completely understand and are impressed by the work of the great past leaders of Russia.

SOT Russian visitor (in Russian) Fortunately, people can still be found who are willing to help museums. Our Museums really need this. But probably if Gazprom didn't finance the exhibit, it may not have been possible to organize it. Maybe it would have, but it may not have turned out as rich and interesting as it is.

Russia: Kuindzhi's painting returns to exhibition at Tretyakov Gallery
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Scores of Muscovites were seen queuing outside the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow on Friday, as Russian artist Arkhip Kuindzhi’s stolen “Ai-Petri. Crimea” painting returned back to the exhibition.
Tretyakov Gallery’s chief curator Tatiana Gorodkova stated the theft left minor markings on the painting.
Due to the theft the painting got nonthreatening defects, as to a number of interfacial bruises close to the edges of the painting and an indent, she said. Gorodkova added that the gallery decided to take the artwork back to the exhibition since the defects “do not require emergency restoration.”
The painting will be exhibited in the gallery until February 17. It is then due to return to the State Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg.
Kuindzhi’s painting was stolen on February 28 from the State Tretyakov Gallery, and found shortly afterwards in a construction site outside of Moscow.
The suspected thief was arrested on the spot and remains in custody. He faces up to 15 years behind bars if convicted of stealing the painting.

Exploring the Best Park in Moscow for Families and Fun
My wife and I love exploring the city for new fun and interesting places to spend time with our kids - and one of the places we keep coming back to time and time again is Gorky Park, perhaps the best place in Moscow for recreation, a leisurely stroll, picnic or get-together. Gorky park has just about everything you need to have a great time, regardless of age. Although, admittedly, the child-friendly daytime atmosphere switches out late in the evening, when the college crowd takes over!
Ponds with boats and catamarans, several large playgrounds for kids of all ages, a skate park, an outdoor movie theater... Lounges and sunbathing areas, restaurants and street food, and all kinds of equipment up for rent - from electric scooters to bicycles and the like. Not to mention the fact that all of this is situated along the Moscow river, right near the Tretyakov gallery, the Muzeon and the Cathedral of Christ the savior.
There are often live concerts being held in the park, and live music and various events and celebrations are also a typical sight here. And even if you're done with the park, you can always catch a ride on a water taxi or Radisson cruise ship to further explore the Moscow river embankment.
But most of the time my kids and I go here to jump back and forth between the playgrounds and eat ice cream :)
Regardless of your age and interests, if you happen to be in Moscow and have some free time to explore the city, I highly recommend planning a stop at Gorky park to soak in the sights, sounds and the enthusiastic, family friendly atmosphere!
Thank you very much for watching! If you enjoyed the video, it would be great if you'd subscribe for more! Also, I'd love to hear your ideas on what you'd like to see me film in Russia, or otherwise!

One of Russia's most revered art museums has re-opened ten years after closing for repairs.
Refurbishment of The Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow was hampered by a shortage of funds.
The long-awaited re-opening was attended by such dignitaries as the Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Lyzhkov.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian):
Repair works coincided with the difficult period in our history: Perestroika. There were times when there was no money, not just hard currency, but even rubles. And this situation lasted a long time, months, even years.
SUPER CAPTION: Lydia Iovleva, Deputy Director of Tretyakov Gallery
contains some of the finest examples of Russian art including works by Vasiliy Kandinsky and Andrei Ryblov . The opening was attended by the Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Lyzhkov and the Patriach
of the Russian Orthodox Church Aleksis II. The gallery closed during Mikhail Gorbachev's administration but re-building work was plagued by a shortage of funds. Exhibition of Mikhail Fedorovich Larionov Russian artist in the new Tretyakov gallery 2018
Exhibition of Mikhail Fedorovich Larionov (1881-1964) – a rare opportunity to see in full the legacy of one of the founders of the Russian avant-garde.
The retrospective at the state Tretyakov gallery is the first attempt in almost 40 years to combine disparate fragments of Larionov's heritage into a full story about his life and work. The exhibition is held in Moscow, in The new Tretyakov gallery on Krymsky Val.

Russia: Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery exhibits masterpieces from the Vatican
The Tretyakov Gallery presented some of the Vatican Museum's treasures outside the Holy See for the first time in Moscow, Wednesday, during the exhibition 'Roma Aeterna - Masterpieces from the Pinacoteca Vaticana.'
The exhibition includes masterpieces ranging from the 12th to the 17th century, with works by Giovanni Bellini, Melozzo da Forli, Pietro Perugino, Rafael Santi, Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Guercino and Nicolas Poussin, among others.
The event is a part of an exchange project between the Vatican Pinacotheca and the Tretyakov Gallery, an idea first voiced during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis I in 2013 at the Vatican. The second part of the exhibition will take place in the Vatican in 2017, with a large part of the exhibition dedicated to great Russian Gospel-themed paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery.
SOT, Arkadi Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia (Russian): On behalf of the Russian Government, I would like to thank our Italian colleagues and friends, the Vatican governance, your Eminence, Mister Cardinal, for such a big opportunity. Not one country in the world ever saw such a beautiful collection in one place as here in the Tretyakov Gallery.
SOT, Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State and President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State (Italian): We welcome that cultural dialogue between the two museums [Vatican Pinacoteca and The Tretyakov Gallery].
SOT Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State and President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State (Italian): We are glad to give the opportunity to men and women, that see the halls, to enjoy that art.
