Walking tour of Newport Beach Pier in Orange County, California 【4K】
The Newport Beach Pier is one of two municipal piers located within the city of Newport Beach, Southern California, at the center of the Balboa Peninsula. With 1,032 feet (314.6 m) long, Newport Pier is one of several prominent piers in Newport Beach. From this wooden structure you can look south to see the Balboa Pier, the second major pier in the Orange County city. Newport Pier, historically known as McFadden’s Wharf, is where the Dory Fishermen dock their dory boats and bring in their catch of the day, selling them to the public at the Dory Fleet Fish Market.
The Newport Beach Pier is ideal for strolling and features a lifeguard station at its base, several rows of shops and restaurants, several hotels, lots of beach rental houses, a bicycle path, public restrooms, a ready teller machine, and a huge parking lot where you put coins in the individual pay meters and pay to park. The pier overlooks a beautiful sand beach, Newport Municipal Beach, and series of jetties where tourists like to climb the rocks, and surfers head out to catch waves.

Dory Fleet fish market in Newport Beach, California
The Dory Fleet Market had its beginning in late 1891 when an enterprising fisherman tired of selling his fish to the wholesalers began marketing to the public on the beach. The Dory Fleet Market, located alongside the Newport Pier, still has its unique Old World charm. This unique market makes one reflect on an era when life was simpler. The Newport Beach Historical Society recognized the fleet as a permanent local historical landmark dedicated June of 1969.

Newport Beach is a coastal city in Orange County, California, United States. Its population was 85,287 at the 2010 census. Newport Beach is home to Newport Harbor and Balboa Island.
The Upper Bay of Newport is a canyon, which was carved by a stream in the Pleistocene period. The Lower Bay of Newport was formed much later by sand that was brought along by ocean currents, which constructed the offshore beach that is now recognized as the Balboa Peninsula of Newport Beach.
Before settlers reached the coasts of California, the Newport area and surrounding areas were very prominent Indian lands. Indian shells and relics can still be found today scattered throughout the area. Though, throughout the 1800s, settlers began to settle the area due to the availability of land. The State of California sold acre-plots of land for $1 a piece in the Newport area. Anglo-American inhabitation in the area grew substantially following the events of 1870 when a 105-ton steamer named The Vaquero, captained by Captain Samuel S. Dunnells (against warnings posted by surveyors) safely steered through the lower and upper bay of Newport where it unloaded its cargo. James Irvine, after hearing the astonishing news, quickly traveled from his home in San Francisco to the San Joaquin Ranch. Meeting in Irvine's ranch house near current day UC Irvine with his brother, Robert Irvine, and friend James McFadden, they all agreed that the newly found port should be named simply, Newport thus where Newport Beach gets its name.
In 1905, city development increased when Pacific Electric Railway established a southern terminus in Newport connecting the beach with downtown Los Angeles. In 1906 (with a population of 206 citizens), the scattered settlements were incorporated as the City of Newport Beach.
Settlements filled in on the Peninsula, West Newport, Newport Island, Balboa Island and Lido Isle. In 1923 Corona del Mar was annexed and in 2002 Newport Coast, East Santa Ana Heights and San Joaquin Hills, were annexed. In 2008, after a long battle with the city of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach annexed West Santa Ana Heights.

Walking along Newport Beach in Orange County, California 【4K】
Newport Beach, a coastal city in southern California, is known for its large, boat-filled harbor. Balboa Peninsula has 2 piers, Newport Beach Pier and Balboa Pier, plus the Balboa Fun Zone, an old-school amusement park with a Ferris wheel and ocean views.
The city is famous for its lavish lifestyle and beautiful surroundings. It is nestled on the Pacific Ocean and is a favorite amongst surfers. The Wedge, at the end of the Balboa Peninsula, is famed for its challenging surf, but Newport's miles of wide beaches offer plenty of room for everyone, except on the busiest summer weekends. There is a concrete boardwalk running along the beach from the east of the Balboa pier to west of the Newport pier.

whimsical beach cottages that sell for millions of dollars
fly a flag for either USC or UCLA.

2.7 miles around Balboa and Little Balboa

Balboa Pier - Newport Beach, CA
Balboa Pier, the second of 2 piers in the City of Newport Beach, CA was constructed in 1906 and stretches 920 feet over the beautiful Pacific. Just a couple miles south of the Newport Pier on the Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Pier is a local hot-spot to fishermen, beach-goers, and anyone looking to take a nice stroll over the Pacific!
Also featured in the video is a surf spot called The Wedge, which is famous for it's massive waves that break in 2 to 3 foot deep waters along the shore. The Wedge is located just a mile south of Balboa Pier and at the entrance to the Newport Bay. The day I filmed was decent, but on a day with good surf it can have waves up to 30 feet!
