Bill makes Kentucky Rhinegeist sales illegal
ERLANGER, Ky. (Brad Underwood) -- Until now, Kentucky has allowed out-of-state breweries to distribute their own beer. But, a bill passed Thursday, March 5, would change that and put the future of Rheingeist's sales in jeopardy. Back in December 2014 Rhinegeist leased a building that was essentially a giant refrigerator. The plan was to distribute Rhinegeist beer and other craft beers here in northern Kentucky. Now after sinking hundreds of thousands of dollars into the property, it appears the building will soon be empty. As Rhinegeist rolls out another new beer, lawmakers across the river have put a cork in the growth of one the fastest growing craft beer brands. Rhinegeist started canning beer in early 2014. Their beer is a hit, extremely popular and distributing in Kentucky was supposed to be the next step.Bob Bonder, co-founder of Rhinegeist, said, Usually people celebrate investment in their state, entrepreneurship, startups. Instead the Kentucky government took away my business three months after they gave us the right to open it. The bill has passed both chambers and Governor Steve Beshear has publicly said he's pleased to sign the bill to protect the integrity of alcohol sales in Kentucky. The bill's primary target was distributing giant Anheuser Busch but lost in that fight was Rhinegiest, the local craft beer start up. It's one of the more sad and frustrating days i've had in the course of running my own business. For bonder and rhinegeist, the bill's passage is a massive blow that happened so quickly bonder is still struggling to make sense of it all. Rhinegeist is still storing and distributing beer from the facility. Bonder said he hoped they would be able to do that until their state license expires at the end of year. After that, who knows if people will be able to buy Rhinegeist in Kentucky. According to a group that tracks market sales information, Rhinegeist is the top selling new craft brand in the country. You Know Jack: Jack Joyce Tribute
On May 27, 2014, the Rogue Nation and family lost our co-founder, leader, friend and father as Jack Joyce passed away at the age of 71.
Following a career as both a small town attorney and Nike executive, Jack and some friends founded Rogue in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon. From the outset, Jack set Rogue on a path of innovation, creativity, and rebellion. Rogue made hoppy, flavorful beers and was told that no one would drink them. Rogue made a wide range of beers and was told no one wanted variety. Rogue sold 22oz bottles of beer and was told no one would pay a premium for a single serve beer. Rogue opened multiple pubs and breweries and was told that it would be wise to follow a more efficient and logical business plan. Rogue took the road less, or perhaps never, travelled. Rogue was the first U.S. craft brewer to send beer to Japan. Rogue won 1,000 awards for product and packaging excellence. Rogue worried about getting better, not bigger. Rogue began distilling. Rogue began farming. Rogue remained dedicated to its small town roots and made sure to give back to its communities. Rogue started a Nation. This was all vintage Jack.
He was the true Rogue and will be missed by us all.

SUMMARY
=======
Richmond () is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It is the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the Greater Richmond Region. Richmond was incorporated in 1742 and has been an independent city since 1871.
As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 204,214; in 2016, the population was estimated to be 223,170, making Richmond the fourth-most populous city in Virginia. The Richmond Metropolitan Area has a population of 1,260,029, the third-most populous metro in the state.
Richmond is located at the fall line of the James River, 44 miles (71 km) west of Williamsburg, 66 miles (106 km) east of Charlottesville, 100 miles (160 km) east of Lynchburg and 98 miles (158 km) south of Washington, D.C. Surrounded by Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the city is located at the intersections of Interstate 95 and Interstate 64, and encircled by Interstate 295 and Virginia State Route 288. Major suburbs include Midlothian to the southwest, Chesterfield to the south, Varina to the southeast, Sandston to the east, Glen Allen to the north and west, Short Pump to the west and Mechanicsville to the northeast.
The site of Richmond had been an important village of the Powhatan Confederacy, and was briefly settled by English colonists from Jamestown in 1609, and in 1610–1611. The present city of Richmond was founded in 1737. It became the capital of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia in 1780, replacing Williamsburg. During the Revolutionary War period, several notable events occurred in the city, including Patrick Henry's Give me liberty or give me death speech in 1775 at St. John's Church, and the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. During the American Civil War, Richmond served as the second and permanent capital of the Confederate States of America. The city entered the 20th century with one of the world's first successful electric streetcar systems. The Jackson Ward neighborhood is a national hub of African-American commerce and culture.
Richmond's economy is primarily driven by law, finance, and government, with federal, state, and local governmental agencies, as well as notable legal and banking firms, located in the downtown area. The city is home to both the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, one of 13 United States courts of appeals, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, one of 12 Federal Reserve Banks. Dominion Energy and WestRock, Fortune 500 companies, are headquartered in the city, with others in the metropolitan area.
