Sri Nilamadhava Temple(Odia: ନୀଳମାଧବଜିଉ ମନ୍ଦିର, କଣ୍ଟିଲୋ) is very old and famous Vishnu temple which is near to the bank of Mahanadi, in Kantilo. which is present near to the twin hills with a surrounding forest. A permanent flow of holy water from the feet of Lord Nilamadhava is another attraction of the spot. Lord Siddheswar is also present which is another highlight of the place.
Lord Nilamadhav occupies a central position in the cult of Lord Jagannath.Even now also Lord Nilamadhava shrine is present on the right side of Lakshmi temple in Puri Jagannath Temple.
HISTORY
It all initiated in a small cave in the Brahmadri hills situated on the banks of Mahanadi, which is known as Kantilo of Nayagarh district today. Here, Biswabasu the local Sabara Chief worshipped Kitung, as the God was known in the Sabara dialect. According to the Puranas, the deity was originally worshipped in the form of an Indranila gem image known as “Nilamadhava. The daru murty came much later.Located near the confluence of three rivers Mahanadi, Kuanria and Kusumi. The temple structure is like the Jagannath temple of Puri. It stands on the right bank of Mahanadi. It is called triveni sangam of Odisha. As there is Beni-Madhava in Prayag, so as here Nilamadhava.

Viswavasu the Savar King, Kantilo Nayagarh by nayagarh news
According to mythology, Long ago, there was a Malva king named Indrayumna, son of Bharat and Sunanda. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once the king dreamt of Nilamadhava, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was eager to worship Nilamadhav, So he sent his representatives to search of Nilamadhav. After some days all the representatives were returned unsuccessfully except one brahmin Priest Vidyapati. He started searching everywhere in East of India. Finding such a way he reached to Odisha. There he comes to know about Savar King Viswavasu who has worshiped Nilamadhav hidingly. Then he planned to stay there for same days. Eventually, he married Lalita, the daughter of Savar King Viswavasu. Lalita had been told by her father not to tell anyone regarding Nilamadhava but she breaks the order & told about the deity. After a repeated request of Vidyapati, Viswavasu agreed to show the deity to his son-in-law. He took him blindfolded to a cave where Nilamadhav was worshipped. To know the path, Vidyapati took some mustard seed in a cloth and make a hole in that cloth. Seeds are falling down slowly from the cloth on the way. The seeds are grown in small plants after a few days, which guide him to find out the cave later on. He informed King Indradyumna about Nilamadhav. Then the king proceeded immediately to see and worship the Deity. In the meantime, when Visvavasu offers food the deity, suddenly the Lord spoke to him and said, “I have accepted simple forest Fruits, roots and flower offered by you for many days. Now I desire the royal worship offered by King Indradyumna and other devotees. When The king reached there, he was disappointed by the sudden disappearance of the Deity. Then during sleep, the king had a vision of Lord Jagannath & also, ancestral voice directed him to receive the fragrant Daru-brahman (Nilamadhav in a wooden form with marks of a conch, club, disc, and lotus on it). The King arranged best sculptors to make idols out of it. But they all are failed, then lord Vishwakarma himself appear as an old artist named Ananta Maharana. He has a condition that no one will open the door till 21 days. Then he started his work behind the closed doors. After 14 days passed, the queen could not hear any sounds from inside. On request of the queen, The king opened the door of the temple by force. The old sculptor was disappeared, he saw unfinished Murtis of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra, and Lord Balarama. Their fingers and toes are not completed. Thinking himself a great offender the king decided to give up his life. Again Lord Jagannath appeared to him in a dream and instructed him to install the Murtis of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Chakra Sudarshan as it is in the temple, as Daru-brahman.

A trip to Neel Madhav - A Day trip from Jagannath Puri
Neel Madhav Temple is very old and famous temple which is near the banks of river Mahanadi in Kantilo in Orissa which is about 3 hours drive from Jagannath Puri. Neel is Blue and Madhava is another name of Lord Krishna.
It is near the twin hills with a surrounding forest.
Located about 80 kms from Bhubaneswar, the nearest airport is Bhubaneswar.

Neel Madhav deity was in the possession of a tribal king name Viswavasu, which his son in law informed King Indradyumna about.
When the King came to visit the deity, it had vanished. Later, Lord Krishna appeared in the dream of the King and told him that the Lord will appear as 3 logs of wood on the shores of Puri which later were carved into the deities of Jagannath Baladev Subhadra and installed in a temple established by King Indradyumna.

Kantilo Nilamadhaba temple is one of the major temple of Odisha. This place is one of the most visited tourist destination of odisha.Shri Nilamadhava Temple is very old and famous Vishnu temple which is near to the bank of Mahanadi in Nayagarh district of Khandapada Block. This place is famous for lord Nilamadhaba. According to Purana's many years ago Lord Vishnu was worshiped as Nilamadhab by sabar king Biswabasu . After that Lord Nilamadhab was appears as Daru murty in Puri Shreemandir so this place is the origin of Load Jagannath.
The design of this temple is very similar to Puri Jagannath temple and the rituals of load Nilamadhab is almost same as in Puri Shreemandir. In addition to main temple you will see lot of parswa temple.

Bhubaneswar se arrount 80km ki duri pe hai yah Pavitra Mandir. Aur sabse badi baat yah hai ki Biswa Prasidh Puri Jagannath Ji k Temple se vi yah judaa huaa hai. Usska Starting point isse kahenge toh buraa nehin hoga.
Aap agar yah Mandir ko jaanaa chahte hein toh aap Bhubaneswar tak aajayiye. Bhubaneswar se aap ko By Road hii jaanaa padega. By Bus or By Bike or By Cab or By Taxi or By Private Gaadi.
Aap yaahaan tak jaane keliye GMap yaa fir kisi aur map kaa vi istemaal karsakte hein.
