In Search of the Sound of Music at Nonnberg Abbey in Salzburg, Austria
We went to Salzburg, Austria, in May 2012 in search of the hills so alive with The Sound of Music... and instead stumbled upon Nonnberg Abbey, where the halls were alive.
The Not The Sound Of Music Tour: Nonnberg Abbey Convent
As part of my Not The Sound Of Music Tour series, here I visit Nonnberg Abbey Convent made famous by The Sound of Music.
To my knowledge, no scenes were filmed inside the grounds or the church I visit here but I am sure the entrance was used (Sound of Music fans will tell me otherwise I am sure).
The trainee nun Maria Kutschera really was based here and really did become the governess of Captain von Trapps (not Baron as I said in the video) children. He already had 7 children but they 3 more together (hence the 10 I mention in the video).

Nonnberg Abbey Salzburg
In December 2014, we traveled to Salzburg to enjoy their Christmas markets. The Nonnberg Abbey was made famous by The Sound of Music as Maria's abbey, which is a sacred space with lovely, solid, ancient feeling architecture and of great quiet. On this trip, the organist was practicing and it was a real treat that we wanted to share.

Stift Nonnberg (ältestes christliches Frauenkloster) Salzburg Österreich Vacation Travel Guide
Stift Nonnberg
Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron Salzburg Austria April 2018
Our 2 night stay in a palace! Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg was beautiful! We truly enjoyed our short 2 night stay at this palace. the grounds were amazing. We visited in Spring, so there were lots of baby ducks everywhere on the property which I loved. It was a walk to the city center. But we really enjoyed the daily walk, exploring and gazing at the mountains and the fort up on the hill. Highly recommend staying here. The rooms are modern and have everything you need.
