North Berwick is a seaside town and former royal burgh in East Lothian, Scotland. North Berwick is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 25 miles north-east of Edinburgh.
North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, and continues to attract holidaymakers to this day. Golf courses at the ends of each bay are open to visitors.
Several of the Islands of the Forth are near the town of North Berwick and visible from it: e.g. Fidra, The Lamb, Craigleith, and Bass Rock; the latter hosts a thriving colony of birds, including puffins, gannets, and other seabirds. The Bass Rock appears white, but this is due largely to the gannets and their guano that cover much of its surface. The seabirds themselves can be observed at close range through remote cameras operated from the recently developed Scottish Seabird Centre near the harbour.
The town is served by North Berwick railway station. The North Berwick Line has provided a rail link with Edinburgh since the nineteenth century and the line, now operated by ScotRail, is still the principal transit link between the town and the capital.

The John Muir Way, the East Lothian coastal path, passes through the town.
Tantallon Castle, a mostly ruined 14th-century fortress in the care of Historic Scotland, is 3 miles (5 km) east of North Berwick.
The Fringe by the Sea aims to be the best small scale, multi artform festival in Scotland, during one week in August.

Views over the Forth of Forth include the Bass Rock and Tantallon Castle.

Walking in the streets of North Berwick, a lovely seaside town in East Lothian, Scotland. It is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 25 miles (40 km) east-northeast of Edinburgh. North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, and continues to attract holidaymakers. Golf courses at the ends of each bay are open to visitors.
Excavations have shown that from as early as the eighth century, a ferry crossing to Earlsferry, near Elie in Fife was in existence, serving pilgrims on their way to the shrine of Saint Andrew.[2] North Berwick Harbour was built in the twelfth century to meet the demands made of the existing ferry trade. This ferry was recently reinstated; during the summer, a boat travels between North Berwick and Anstruther in Fife, in homage to the original ferry.

The town of North Berwick can be found on the South East coast of Scotland, in the area of East Lothian. It became a popular tourist destination in the 19th Century and it continues to be popular with holiday makers now. You can see the Bass Rock from the town. The town also has a RSPB centre.

In 13 April 1999 the UK Government (English) stole Scotland's Marine Boundaries from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Carnoustie. Illegally making 6000 miles of Scotland's waters English, then on the 12 May 1999 the Devolved Scottish Parliament was officially opened?
When you play golf at St Andrews and look out to sea, you are looking at English Waters according to the treacherous Westminster powers that be. There is a shocking fact that few people in Scotland or elsewhere know which is just as disgraceful as the 30 year Westminster administration and deceit over Scotland's oil. This is the as-yet unexplained and secret action by Westminster Order in 1999 to move Scotland's marine boundary from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Carnoustie. To this day this lost Scotland 6,000 square miles of the North Sea, nodded through at the time by the feckless and treacherous Lib/Lab arm of Westminster based in Holyrood.
The shocking thing about this secret order is that it was not openly discussed in the Commons, passed by the house of Lords and then passed by a very select Labour and Liberal committee in the Scottish Office. : ''If it had been land rather than water which had been robbed in such a fashion there would have been an uproar.
The former boundary between English and Scottish waters ran due east from Berwick to a median line between the UK and Norway. But a new ''demarcated'' limit has been created 60 miles further north at Carnoustie.
The boundary shift was established by an order carried out at Westminster under the Scottish Adjacent Boundaries Order (1999 No. 1126). The order was passed by the House of Lords and the Committee on Delegated Legislation on 13th April 1999 but was not openly debated in the Commons. It was moved by McLeish - then a Scottish Office minister and reportedly received minimal opposition from a committee containing three other Scottish MPs - Tam Dalyell, Sir Robert Smith and John McAllion.

Está situado en la orilla sur del estuario del río Forth , a unos 25 kilómetros al este noreste de Edimburgo . North Berwick se convirtió en un centro turístico de moda en el siglo 19 por sus dos playas de arena, del Este (o Milsey) Bay y la bahía oeste, y sigue atrayendo a los turistas a este día. North Berwick is a small town nestling under the old volcanic plug - North Berwick Law about 25 miles east of Edinburgh This hill is part of the chain which runs right up to the centre of Edinburgh where Edinburgh castle is built upon. North Berwick is named in conjunction with Berwick upon Tweed which is much further south on the Scottish/English border. The word North was used to differentiate between the two communities and Berwick seems to be from the old English meaning a barley field. In days gone by farming and fishing would have been the two main attractions of the town but Golf, from the mid 1880's also made a claim. Golf, especially the modern game with its rules and The Open Championship grew up here along with St Andrews, to the north in Fife and Prestwick on Scotland's west coast. Golf is still a major attraction along the whole of East Lothian which boasts more courses/capita than any part of the UK.
Although not entirely noticeable, this video was shot on a very windy morning. The sea hasn't started to rise just yet but, by the end of the day, there will be a huge swell with large breakers. I think we made it just in time.
John Muir Way, North Berwick to Dunbar
Todays walk, got the bus to North Berwick and walked back to Dunbar via the John Muir Way. The big hill is North Berwick law, I keep on calling it Trapain law, because I'm an idiot lol.
