Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 30, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Beer Politics in Iowa
The German immigrants who made Iowa their home in the 1800s found fertile fields perfectly suited for growing hops and barley, yet brewing was easier said than done. Out of all the Midwestern states where Germans settled, only Iowa was dominated by temperance advocates, who pursued prohibition measures with Republican support from 1856 onwards. Professor Ehrstine's lecture will explore the state's contested brewing culture and the corresponding political choices faced by German Iowans from the Civil War through World War I.
The German Iowa and the Global Midwest series is co-sponsored by the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies and International Programs.
This lecture is sponsored by the University of Iowa Provost's Office of Outreach & Engagement. To view upcoming lectures in the Hawkeye Lunch & Learn lecture series visit outreach.uiowa.edu/HawkeyeLL.

Keokuk Union Depot
By the 1890s, five different railroads were servicing Keokuk, each with their own depot. Frustrated by the muddy and littered stations, the citizens petitioned for a larger train depot, a Union Depot, for use by all the railroads. In September 1882 the City of Keokuk began pushing efforts to create a larger depot. After much discussion, many concessions, and a few agreements the Keokuk Union Depot was approved for construction on May 7, 1890. Keokuk hired renowned architect John Wellborn Root of Chicago to design the new depot. Root had been involved in various projects rebuilding Chicago after the Great Fire and developing the Colombian Exposition, he was best known for his work on train depots around the country. The Keokuk Union Depot opened in July of 1891. The depot was a welcoming structure and made good first impressions of the city to passengers arriving by rail. The depot remained a hub for the southeast Iowa community until 1967 when the last passenger train stopped.

The African American Lecture series explores the history of black Americans in Missouri from the earliest period of statehood to the present.

In 2015 the bees are still dying in masses. Which at first seems not very important until you realize that one third of all food humans consume would disappear with them. Millions could starve.
