O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub, Dingle. Jackie Healy's Hens Rocking The Courthouse, The Directors Cut
The music at O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub in Dingle is always special, but sometimes something magical happens! On the 25th October 2014 Jackie Healy's hen party came to the pub with their tin whistles. This video catches part of the magic that was in the pub that night! This edit is slightly enhanced with different effects and some new footage. Dingle, Kerry, Ireland #rockingthecourthouse

traditional Irish music at O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub in Dingle
O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub, Dingle, Ireland
Shot by Carole Terwilliger Meyers on September 27, 2013
This pub doesn't serve any food but it does serve up some great tradtional Irish music. The video isn't very good--it was taken without flash on my iPhone--but the music is. Before I did some editing, this video was just black as the night.

OSULLIVAN'S COURTHOUSE PUB 2016
Session at Tommy O'Sullivan's Pub
Tommy O'Sullivan invited me to a session in his pub in Dingle. I had played with Tommy for a while in 1987 and in the meantime he has become an international star. Amongst the musicians were Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (flute, vocals) and her father (fiddle) of whom I have an early recording, when Muireann was very young. Other brilliant musicians turned up later: Teresa Horgan (flute) and Caroline Keane (concertina).
They allowed me to play a few tunes with them that I know, like the reels Fermoy Lasses / Sporting Paddy and a set of jigs, which Muireann recorded with Danú. Thanks to you people.
Bernhard handled the little camera and so got it all into sound and pictures.
Cillian Ó Briain in O'Sullivan's Courthouse pub, Dingle
We hit the jackpot when we stumbled into a fabulous session with Cillian Ó Briain (pipes), Tommy O'Sullivan (guitar & vocals), plus a bodhrán player/singer from France and a bazouki player from Donegal. I'll update the names as soon as I can figure them out. Here's a snippet.

Back in 2013, I was headed down the west coast of Ireland and wind up in Dingle for a day. As I order a drink at the Courthouse Pub, the man behind the bar asks, Do you play the fiddle? Yes. Is your name Casey? Yes. This man is Tommy O'Sullivan and he runs the pub with his wife Saundra. It turns out that Tommy and I met years before this at the North Texas Irish Festival. We end up closing down his pub with great tunes and stay in touch. For our family travel adventure, a return trip to Dingle was a must.
On our second day in town, Tommy and I met at the pub before opening time and carved out an afternoon of music which started with the two of us for three songs and finished as a trio with Saundra on harmony vocals for two more.
The song I included here is the third one we played as a duo, Peggy Gordon. It's sung in both the Scots-Irish and Canadian traditions.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
OTHERLANDS: A Global Music Exploration follows GRAMMY-nominated 5-string American fiddler Casey Driessen as he travels with his family to various countries across the globe to meet with local acoustic-based musicians with roots in their own traditions. Musical exchanges and travels are documented via audio, video and photography elements with collected materials released over the course of the project via his website and social media outlets and official musical releases likely to come at the end of travels.
OTHERLANDS is an independently designed and produced project that is self-contained with a small collection of audio and video equipment. All engineering and recording, including any post-production, can be set up, operated, and completed by Casey wherever on the globe he happens to be.
