The Summer Manufacturing Institute- Construction

Students in grades 4-6 worked with engineers, contractors, and local unions to learn the basics of all of the construction trades. The theory to practice camp allowed students to take their learned knowledge and apply it to building one giant plinko board using power equipment and individual smaller plinko boards using recycled materials. Small plinko board materials had to be purchased using their mock business budgets. Students then had to also budget and create marketing materials.

Summer Manufacturing Institute is an annual summer camp that is hosted by YWCA of Youngstown and OhWow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's center for science and Technology.
