Oak Island North Carolina - Margaret Rudd & Associates
Located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina, Oak Island is a barrier island between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean with 14 miles of south-facing beach strand. Formed in 1999 with the merger of Yaupon Beach and Long Beach, the town of Oak Island is home to a public marina, two fishing piers, public launch locations for boating and kayaking and a municipal golf course. Also located on Oak Island is the town of Caswell Beach, home to the Oak Island Golf Club, an active Coast Guard station and the Oak Island Lighthouse. Volunteers from both towns and surrounding communities come together in many efforts to preserve and restore natural areas, including the protection of endangered sea turtles. Both Oak Island and the nearby city of Southport host numerous fishing tournaments and holiday festivals - visitors return year after year and many look forward to the day they can make Oak Island their year-round home.

The population was 6,783 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1999 by the consolidation of the towns of Long Beach and Yaupon Beach. Its main industry is tourism; the town has an average summer population of 30-50,000.

Fishing Oak Island NC Inshore With 3 You-Tubers
The waters around Oak Island, NC are my home waters. I love fishing inshore because you never know what you might catch. This fishing video is the story about 3 fishing buddies getting together for an Alpha Male weekend of fishing & fun. Chris Sartain from Youtube channel Out, West With Chris, flew into NC from California to spend a weekend with me & Thomas Farlow of Southern Outdoors Fishing. Wow, did we have a blast kayak fishing and fishing out of Thomas's Sea Hunt center console fishing boat. We just needed the fish to cooperate especially since Chris had flown in from California to fish inshore with us. Our first day of fishing was spent chasing Redfish in our kayaks. We didn't do that well but we had a blast just being together. There was a lot of smack talk going on. We started off deep in Eastern NC backwaters with my favorite fishing guide known as NCPierman in the state of NC. A fishing legend. We fished and searched for those elusive Redfish and found them but couldn't get them to take baits. Those redfish were finicky eaters on this day. We threw live bait and a lot of topwater baits for redfish but couldn't get them to feed. We were actually in our kayaks on the first day for over 10 hours. One of the most exciting moments on this day of fishing was when Thomas Farlow of Southern outdoors Fishing hooked into a Hatteras Bluefish. This thing was a monster and was jumping like crazy in front of our kayaks. We got some great video of the fish jumps. Unfortunately the Hatteras Bluefish cut the line off right at Thomas's kayak when he was reaching for the fish net to boat him.
Day 2 we launched at the Wildlife launch on Fish Factory Rd. It's a great launch and easy access to the intracoastal Waterway as long as it's not on a crowded holiday. We loaded up with fresh shrimp for bait and we also figured we would throw a cast net for some live bait. One of my favorite baits is fresh cut bait from the small fish we always seem to catch. Cut bait in these inshore waters will catch just about everything. One of the best cut bait choices is Croaker fish because they are so easy to catch. Just use a small hook and a piece of shrimp and you will catch all the Croakers you want. Just about every Oak Island, NC fishing spot will hold Croakers. Once again we were in search for Redfish but they were elusive. Were were able to put Chris on a nice black drum fish and he hooked up to a very large sting ray and a Whiting. I don't think Chris has ever experienced a fish fight like he did with the giant sting ray.

Triathlon ~ Oak Island, NC Bridge To Pier
This past weekend the Bridge To Pier Triathlon was held at Oak Island, NC. It was a great turnout and a very well run triathlon. The event begins with a 1/3 mile ocean swim. Next comes a 16.25 mile bike sprint. The last leg of triathlon is a 4 mile run.
My son Jake was a competitor.

Shark attacks two teens, eats their arms at beach in Oak Island, North Carolina - TomoNews
OAK ISLAND, NORTH CAROLINA — Two young swimmers are recovering after losing limbs following two separate shark attacks in the space of 90 minutes off a North Carolina beach on Sunday.
A 13-year-old girl swimming near the Ocean Crest Pier on Oak Island was attacked around 4 p.m. The shark took multiple chomps at the girl, causing damage to her left arm and leg. A man swimming nearby carried her to shore, where responders applied makeshift tourniquets.
It was so much like a scene from Jaws, one witness said. Ninety minutes later and just two miles east along the same beach, the same shark apparently came back for seconds. This time, the shark's razor-sharp teeth ripped into a 16-year-old boy's left arm, severing it from his body.
Both victims were airlifted to a Wilmington hospital in critical condition. The boy lost his left arm at the shoulder. The girl lost her arm at the elbow and may need to have part of her leg amputated.
The Ocean Crest Pier is popular with fishermen, whose bait may have attracted the shark to the area.
Warning flags were posted on the Brunswick County beaches Sunday. According to a local Fox News affiliate, the beaches will be open for swimmers on Monday.
