japan – tokyo, odawara and hakone | fabs goes asia, part 6
Dear viewer, this is part 6 of the fabs goes asia series.
In this video you’ll be going to a sumo wrestling training in Tokyo, take the highspeed train called Shinkansen from Tokyo to Odawara and from there to the hiking area of Hakone. You’ll take a walk through the Odawara Castle and its beautiful Gardens, see the colorful red blood maple tree and – maybe – you will be able to smell the salty air and feel the soft breeze of the pacific ocean, like we did. We found a tsunami safety construction to secure all buildings along the coastline. Amazing and thought provoking sight. It was our plan to arrive at Hakone in the evening, move into our hostel and have dinner somewhere. In the end it all worked out. We even saw a Shinto procession with a beautiful altar being carried by at least 10 people. (Watch the movie ’til the very end to see that yourself ;)
We had a super delicious korean dinner with all kind of tasty bits and a korean whisky to finish our travel day.
Can’t wait to share the next video with you.
I hope you like this one enough to tune in for the next one.
Enjoy,
F.

The Truth About Japanese Ninja | 外国人が知らない、忍者の話
The Truth About Japanese Ninja | 外国人が知らない、忍者の話
Historically they went by many names--Monomi, Kusa, Rappa, Nokizaru, Shinobi, but the most popular term to use when referring to Feudal Japan’s famous spies, is “Ninja”.
In Pop Culture and Fiction, Ninja take on the imageof being skilled assassins, dressed in black, moving swiftly through the night with almost mythical skills and powers— but how much of that is actually true?
The Japan Ninja Council is a national team dedicated to preserving the fact and fiction of ninja, and translating it into modern terms for the current day and age. With their guidance I travelled across Japan to speak to experts and determine the truth behind Japanese history’s most mysterious beings.

【FHD 駅探訪No.63】北越急行ほくほく線 美佐島駅にて(At Misashima Station on the Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku Line)
Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku line is a mountain tunnel route where limited express train HAKUTAKA passes at 160km/h, which is the fastest of all local railway lines in Japan. Misashima station is the only station, installed belowground on this line. To tackle the severe wind pressure, caused by fast passage of trains, the station has firm facilities. This time, I took the scenery of station, environs, and trains at the station.

Matsumoto in the winter
The new city of Matsumoto is the city comprising the mergers of the old city of Matsumoto and four villages. Matsumoto officially absorbed those villages without creating a new municipal organization.
Matsumoto is surrounded by mountains and is acclaimed for its beautiful views. Hiking and climbing locations in the mountains are readily accessible by local bus transportation. Matsumoto has several historic features, such as Matsumoto Castle (松本城 Matsumoto-jō?), Kaichi School Museum (Kaichi gakkō), and Temari (traditional Japanese handball).
Matsumoto is attractive to travellers not only because of the traditional culture but also its calm climate and its products. Matsumoto soba is famous and many are delighted by its delicate taste. Just north of Matsumoto is the world's largest wasabi farm. Wasabi can only be grown in extremely clean water so there is much local pride in this product. In addition, Matsumoto is home to the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, held every August by conductor Seiji Ozawa and featuring the Saito Kinen Orchestra; regular guests have included Robert Mann and Mstislav Rostropovich. It is very difficult to get tickets: Many people wait in line two days before tickets go on sale.
Home to several renowned current and former musical instrument factories, such as Matsumoku (closed in 1986) and FujiGen Gakki.
Matsumoto, like many areas in Japan, is home to abundant onsen (温泉 or hot springs). It also is host to a number of summer festivals, including the Bon-Bon Festival on the first Saturday of August, which features its signature dance.
