ODESSA, UKRAINE TRAVEL- MARCH 23, 2019
My version of Shallow (Cover)- A Star is Born
Odessa is the third most populous city of Ukraine and a major tourism center, seaport and transport hub located on the northwestern shore of the Black Sea.
Odessa, Ukraine is one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities on the Black Sea shore.
Summer in Odessa, Ukraine - Beaches and sights (July 2016)
Odessa (Ukrainian spelling: Одеса, Україна) is Ukraine's third largest city, located on the Black Sea coast. Odessa is a major seaport and transportation hub and an attractive tourist destination. Mainly frequented by Ukrainian and Russian tourists, Odessa is known for its beaches, clubs, nightlife, but also for cultural events. There is a huge variety of restaurants and bars, catering to all culinary tastes.
In this video, you can see some footage from my visit to Odessa in July 2016. The beaches shown in the video are Langeron Beach and Arcadia Beach. The beach club in the last part of the video is Ibiza Beach Club on Arcadia Beach, an upscale location with nice swimming pools and great Ibiza style house music, but comparatively high prices for drinks and loungers.
The water quality of the Black Sea was quite poor. The water was oily and contained plenty of algae. It was better to use the swimming pools of the beach clubs. English was not widely spoken, as the tourist industry is fully oriented towards Russian visitors.
We left the city with mixed feelings. There were lots of good restaurants and cultural attractions and we enjoyed walking along the beaches. The area around the Opera House and Potemkin stairs was really nice. Odessa's pop-up coffee trucks provided great refreshments at very affordable prices. However, we would not recommend Odessa for a proper beach holiday. Compared to other beach towns in Europe, the infrastructure just doesn't meet certain standards yet.

Hi my name is Lana,
I come from the north of New Zealand.
I made the decision to quit my job as a nurse and go traveling. I enjoy slow travel and spending more time in each city to get a feel for the culture and how the locals truly live. Traveling can be hard when you don't have the information you need, especially as a tourist, the prices of things are usually heightened. 2nd May 2017 - Odessa City Tour
After arriving from Lviv after a 12 hour train trip locked in a tiny sleeper cabin (supposedly first class. I would have to see how tiny second class was) I made it to my hotel with an hour to spare before my city tour of Odessa. Many of the roads were blocked off due to Labor Day. There was a heightened presence of police throughout the city. Fortunately there were no major incidents.
The tour around Odessa lasted about five hours ending with an electric tram ride with a Russian commentator so that I could have a closer look at the Black Sea.
Hope you enjoy today's video. Tomorrow we have a trip to Akkerman Fortress.
Top 7 tips for safe travel to Odessa
A lot of tourists from different countries are visiting Odessa thus we want to give you some tips if you've decided to travel here.
In Odessa, you may face cheaters.
7 tips from us on how to make your travel safe.
1. Apartment
If you decide to book a hotel or an apartment please use booking.com or Airbnb.
Do not use some other websites and definitely do not book from people at the train station or near the airport who propose cheap, nice and close to the sea apartments. It may sound cheaper and better, however, these apartments may not even exist, and you may be robbed.
2. How to change money?
You may change cash in a bank or in places that are called Exchange Обмін валют (ukr). The actual rate you will find out on the internet.
Exchange places in most famous districts such as Arcadia, Deribasovska propose a bad exchange rate. So the bank is an answer.
Do not change money from different people on the street even if they recommend a good price.
Note that in Odessa in many places, you can pay only by cash.
3. Taxi
Please do not use a taxi near the airport or train station, their prices are too high.
You need to call a taxi or use some app
Uber is not the best choice in Odessa. Very bad cars and drivers. We recommend using Bond Taxi.
If you decided to use Uber please pay attention that the car indicated in-app and a car that has arrived is the same. That driver started a drive in the app and finished it if you pay by card. Do not leave the car until the driver finishes a drive in-app.
If you pay by cash the driver may say that they do not have a change, but it is their problem, they should have it.
Pay attention, that most of the taxies won't give you a receipt.
4. Restaurants
If you want to eat something tasty or drink, you will find a huge list of restaurants in trip advisor. The quality and atmosphere of many restaurants is amazing. Cozy, fabulous, fancy, thematic, tastiest, lounge, cheap - all for your taste.
But! You need to know that the prices are the same or cheaper than in Europe. Even in the most expensive restaurants.
Before you order please ask a menu and look at prices. There were situations when cheaters/waiters gave a fake menu to the foreigners and provided fake bills with few extra zeroes.
5. Food in supermarkets and street food.
Street food is not recommended at all, especially fish and shrimps.
In supermarkets, you will find all you need.
6. Robbers
Don't leave your stuff unattended in any place. Especially at the beach. Do not leave valuable things in the apartment. And keep an eye on your purse/wallet in crowdy places. If you have seen that someone lost money or wallet, do not touch it, because it is also a way to rob you by cheaters.
7. Evening walking
Do not take a walk in the evening in unknown districts. The only safe places for walking after twilights in Odessa is the city center
Hope it will help you and see you soon!
Walking in ODESSA / Ukraine ????????- Evening Tour in the Centre - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Odessa or Odesa (Ukrainian: Оде́са, Russian: Оде́сса) is a port city in Ukraine on the Black Sea and a popular destination for its beaches in summer.
This evening we walk around the city centre to see Odessa's 19th-century architecture, including the Odessa Opera.
We start at the Monument to Alexander Pushkin, walk past the Odessa City Hall and also see the Opera house. We make our way to the famous Potemkin Stairs and finally Derybasivska Street, a pedestrian walkway in the heart of Odessa. People enjoy their evening in many of the restaurants and fountains in little parks.

Viking Guided Tour of Odessa: Famous Potemkin Steps
The iconic sight of Odessa is the famous Potemkin Steps leading from the Black Sea up to the city center. These stairs were built to allow access from the Harbor below, to Odessa, built on a plateau above. Built between 1837-1841, their original name was Primorsky Stairs. It wasn't until 1955 that the Soviets renamed the steps to honor the Battleship Potemkin uprising.
The staircase is fascinating because of optical illusions. When looking UP from the bottom, all you see is stairs. When looking DOWN from the top, all you see is landings.
Passengers began the included Viking tour here before continuing past other important sights...
