Martin Van Buren National Historic Site - Beautiful Upstate New York
Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is is located 20 miles south of Albany, New York, and two miles south of the village of Kinderhook, New York. The National Historic Site preserves the estate and thirty-six room mansion of Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States. Van Buren purchased the estate, which he named Lindenwald, in 1839 during his one term as President and it became his home and farm during his retirement (wikipedia).
With me were my wife and son as we visited this site in the summer of 2018. Other stops on this trip were Saratoga, Fort Stanwix and Cooperstown (the Baseball Hall of Fame).

Josh Prince Presents New York at Hudson Valley Dance Festival 2019
Unique performances have been added to this year’s diverse program of world-class dance at Hudson Valley Dance Festival on Saturday, October 12, 2019. This unforgettable day of dance in Catskill, NY, is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Dance Lab New York, which will hold a creative retreat this fall at the Petronio Residency Center in nearby Greene County presenting original dances. The pieces will be choreographed by artistic director Josh Prince (Beautiful - The Carole King Musical).
Hudson Valley Dance Festival (#hvdance) features shows at 2 pm and at 5 pm. Set amid upstate New York’s picturesque fall foliage in a park overlooking the Hudson River, the festival will again transform a restored 19th century warehouse into a modern dance venue at Historic Catskill Point.
Tickets start at $40 and are on sale now at dradance.org or by calling 212.840.0770, ext. 229. Sponsorship opportunities start at $275. VIP tickets include a cocktail reception at Historic Catskill Point and a locally sourced dinner with the dancers.
A special daytrip package from New York City offers luxury round-trip bus transportation, a guided tour of Olana State Historic Site, a champagne luncheon, a ticket to the 2 pm performance and a complimentary cocktail reception after the show. Olana is an historic estate and former home to Frederic Edwin Church, one of the major figures in the Hudson River School of landscape painting.
Over the event’s six years, Hudson Valley Dance Festival has raised $764,724. The support helps Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS provide grants to AIDS and family service organizations nationwide, including 13 based in the Hudson Valley: Albany Damien Center and Alliance for Positive Health in Albany, Animalkind, Columbia-Greene Community Foundation and Hudson Valley SPCA in Hudson, Matthew 25 Food Pantry and Community Hospice in Catskill, Hudson Valley Community Services in Hawthorne, Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center in Kingston, Rock Steady Farm in Millerton, Roe Jan Food Pantry in Hillsdale, TOUCH (Together Our Unity Can Heal) in Congers and Troy Area United Ministries in Troy.

Dancers Responding to AIDS relies on the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those in need. Megan Hicks @ Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site - Fort Hunter, NY
Award winning storyteller Megan Hicks performed at the Schoharie Crossing Visitor Center on Sunday August 17th as part of the 22nd Annual - Not Just For Kids Storytelling Series.
She was featured as a New Voice at the National Storytelling Festival in 2011, and her credits range from small venues in rural America to regional stages throughout the United States and international programs on three continents.
Her awards include a Parents’ Choice Silver for the CD, “What Was Civil About That War” which was also a 2005 finalist for an Audies Award in the category of Best Original Work. She received a Storytelling World Honor Award and was named National Storyteller of the Year.
Megan Hicks also had been involved in making origami jewelry since 1986. She has created workshops and performances around the art of origami.
The Not Just For Kids Storytelling Series is an annual favorite for patrons of Schoharie Crossing. All performances are held rain or shine at the Visitor Center at 6:00 pm with refreshments following the performance.
This year the program has been sponsored by The Friends of Schoharie Crossing, Stewart’s Shops, L’Ultimo, Southside Food Company, the Garden Bug, Karen’s Produce and Dolci Bakery. The program also received support from Saratoga Arts through its Fulton Montgomery Arts Grant Program, which is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Cuomo and the New York Legislature.
