Yellowstone National Park - Old Faithful Inn - Full Tour (2018)
The Old Faithful Inn is a hotel located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States, with a view of the Old Faithful Geyser. The Inn has a multi-story log lobby, flanked by long frame wings containing guest rooms.
With its log and limb lobby and massive (500-ton, 85-foot) stone fireplace, the inn is an example of the Golden Age of rustic resort architecture, a style which is also known as National Park Service Rustic. It is rare in that it is one of the few log hotels still standing in the United States, and was the first of the great park lodges of the American west.
Initial construction was carried out over the winter of 1903–1904, largely using locally obtained materials including lodgepole pine and rhyolite stone. When the Old Faithful Inn first opened in the spring of 1904, it boasted electric lights and steam heat.
The structure is the largest log hotel in the world; possibly even the largest log building in the world. In 2007 the American Institute of Architects conducted a survey to determine the 150 favorite buildings in America; the Old Faithful Inn ranked 36. The Inn, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987, is itself part of the Old Faithful Historic District. Old Faithful Inn is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular features. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early-to-mid-19th century, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. Management and control of the park originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior, the first being Columbus Delano. However, the U.S. Army was subsequently commissioned to oversee management of Yellowstone for a 30-year period between 1886 and 1916. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than a thousand archaeological sites.
Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2), comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest super-volcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Half of the world's geysers and hydrothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone. In 1978, Yellowstone was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Old Faithful Inn - Yellowstone National Park
In today's episode of Chef Tips - On the Road, Jason Hill offers a complete tour of the Old Faithful Inn, a Yellowstone hotel designed by architect Robert Reamer in 1903. We'll tour the Old Faithful Inn dining room (one of the best Yellowstone restaurants where Jason samples some smoked gouda cheese soup and bison bratwurst), check out some of the rustic Old Faithful Inn rooms, and visit the upper deck, where you can get an awesome view of the Old Faithful geyser! We found that the best time to eat at the Old Faithful restaurant was just before noon. The crowds seemed to appear in droves around 1 p.m. If you like, you can grab a hot chocolate, coffee, or cocktails on the second floor, which is also home to the famous Old Faithful Inn Crow's Nest. The hotel is magnificent, but pretty spooky — in fact it's the most haunted hotel in Yellowstone National Park! The Headless Bride is the most famous Old Faithful Inn ghost. She was supposedly beheaded by her husband during their honeymoon here, and is now said to haunt the crow's nest in her ripped gown.

Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, United States. Old Faithful was named in 1870 during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name.[3][4] It is one of the most predictable geographical features on Earth, erupting every 35 to 120 minutes. The geyser, as well as the nearby Old Faithful Inn, is part of the Old Faithful Historic District.
Eruptions can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 US gallons (14,000 to 32,000 L) of boiling water to a height of 106 to 185 feet (32 to 56 m) lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet (44 m).[7] Intervals between eruptions can range from 35 to 120 minutes, averaging 66.5 minutes in 1939,[8] slowly increasing to an average of 90 minutes apart today.[9] The time between eruptions has a bimodal distribution, with the mean interval being either 65 or 91 minutes.
More than 137,000 eruptions have been recorded. Harry Woodward first described a mathematical relationship between the duration and intervals of the eruptions in 1938.[8][10] Old Faithful is not the tallest or largest geyser in the park; those titles belong to the less predictable Steamboat Geyser.[4]

Top 5 Resorts Near Yellowstone Video (HD)
Many visitors to Yellowstone choose stay in the park at one of the many lodges, or at campsites with their vehicles. However, you usually have to book way in advance to get the best spots, so finding the right place to stay near the park can be a make or break aspect for your enjoyment at America's premier national park.
When deciding where to stay near Yellowstone, I look for a couple of things: proximity to the park, comfort and style of the facilities, and activities other than the park that may be available nearby.
Using these criteria, I've compiled a list of my 5 favorite places stay. This list is by no means definitive. I have stayed at places that are very nice that check all my boxes on the list, but to be on this list, there has to be something special about the place that makes it different than anywhere else.
That's why the Best Western in Cody isn't on here, even though it's a great place to stay. Or the Buffalo Bill Cabins adjacent to that property.
So enjoy the video, feel free to ask questions and above all....GET TO YELLOWSTONE NOW!

Yellowstone NP: Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Besin (4K/UHD)

Old Faithful (the old faithful) is one of the best known geysers on earth. It is a nozzle-shaped geyser and is located in the upper geyser basin of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming State (USA). Old Faithful is located at an altitude of 2240 meters above sea level. The eruption column reaches a height of about 30 to 55 m. An eruption usually takes between 1.5 and 5 minutes without its typical foreplay, between 14,000 and 32,000 liters of water are ejected per eruption. The Old Faithful is one of the great geysers.
The Upper Geyser Basin, also known as the Old Faithful Region, is the region in Yellowstone National Park that has the highest concentration of geothermal objects in the park.
In order to cope with the huge influx of tourists, the park managers had the Old Faithful Inn built next to the geyser in 1903/04. The building of the inn is called the largest log cabin in the world, but this is unsecured.
