November 19, 2017 - Rev Arvel Bird - Center of Universal Light
The speaker on November 19, 2017 was our own Rev. Arvel Bird, sharing a message about the Gift of Kindness.
The Center of Universal Light is a uniquely independent inter-spiritual community, in which we celebrate life and spirituality through a rich diversity of ancient and contemporary wisdom, practices and traditions. Through music, message and mantra, we combine old and new ideas to reach practical teachings that encourage others to follow their own spiritual path beyond religion.
Please join us for our Sunday Gatherings at 10:30am. We meet at the Old Town Center for the Arts, 5th Street and Main in Cottonwood AZ. We are blessed with a Senior Minister who is not only an inspirational speaker, he's also a professional touring musician, so we get a mini-concert every week!
We also enjoy sing-a-longs with lots of familiar songs and any number of other brilliant guests artists, local and national.
Some days we might discuss a quote from Ernest Holmes or Scott Peck (The Road Less Travelled), Albert Einstein and many, many other great ancient and contemporary thinkers. The CUL acknowledges there are many paths to divine and we are here to help you find deeper meaning in or to discover your own.

Independence day fireworks in Sedona & Cottonwood, AZ--2011
Continental Congress as an official way to declare the United States' independence from Great Britain. Two hundred thirty five years later, July 4th is still one of the biggest holidays of the US.
Residents of Sedona and Cottonwood were not exceptions. Hundreds of people gathered and celebrated their 235th anniversary. It was quite a big audience for these relatively small cities. The Children's Park was the spot for this year's Cottonwood 4th of July celebration.
Arizona Hotspots Episode 1 The Verde Valley
Arizona Hotspots Episode 1 The Verde Valley
In our first Episode we leave the common travel routes and dive into the hidden places of Verde Valley. Surrounded by red rocks and dozens of spectacular hiking routes we can't think of no better place to find our inner peace. In the western hills we find the former mining town Jerome which after its almost abandonment became a flourishing town for artists and those looking for art. Montezoma's Castle and Well, both mistakenly named after an aztec emperor reveal two old abandoned Indian settlements that are surprisingly well intact.

Scottsdale Ep69 pt1 KASR VIDEO
Bobby Diablo and Greg Mickey host from the ASU Kerr Cultural Arts Center located in the most rootin-tootin-ritzy-rich wild west town of Scottsdale and discuss baseball! (come on girls: what else could 2 guys possibly talk about)
Also stopping in for 30 seconds is DURAN DURAN discussing cocaine and the temptuous TRACI LORDS ode to James Bond!
Kasrvnotebook: Duran Duran was created by Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass), with the later addition of Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar), and Simon Le Bon (lead vocals); none of the Taylors are related. The group has never disbanded, but the line-up changed to include guitarist Warren Cuccurullo from 1989 to 2001, and drummer Sterling Campbell from 1989 to 1991. The reunion of the original five members in the early 2000s created a stir among music media and the band's fans. Andy Taylor has since left the band once more. They were the most commercially successful of the New Romantic bands and a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the United States. During the past three decades they have placed 21 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 and 30 in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, and have sold more than 85 million records.
Kasrvnotebookpage2: Traci Lords (born Nora Louise Kuzma on May 7, 1968), also known as Traci Elizabeth Lords and Tracy Lords, is an American film actress, producer, film director, writer and singer. She first achieved notoriety for her underage appearances in pornographic films and Penthouse magazine (she was around 16 years old in her first film), later becoming a television and B-movie actress. 1,000 Fires is the first and only music album by singer and multi-instrumentalist, Traci Lords which was released in 1995. It became a surprise hit album after the #1 hit, Control became popular in both the U.S. and the U.K. An Instrumental version of the song Control was used in 1995 as part of the soundtrack to the Mortal Kombat movie. The albums highlights include, Outlaw Lover, Good-N-Evil, Fly, I Want You, Say Something and, Okey Dokey. It is currently out of print.
Kasrvnotebookpage3: Kerr Clutural Center: Louise Lincoln Kerr was born April 25, 1892 in Ohio. She was the eldest child of John C. Lincoln, founder of the Lincoln Electric Company and one of America's greatest inventors. At a young age, Louise, became very fond of music. She studied music in New York City and attended Barnard College and Columbia University.
Throughout her life, Louise Kerr had a dream -- to create an artist colony where established and emerging musicians, artists and writers could come together, practice their craft and learn from each other. In the late 1940s, the first colony structure was built in Scottsdale, a spacious five--room adobe home where she lived. Eventually, a performance hall, dubbed The Studio, began to take shape. Adorned with a tile roof, massive hand--hewn beams, hand--forged wrought--iron chandeliers and railings, and beautifully crafted handmade doors and bookcases (made by Mrs. Kerr's friend, Tucson artist Charles W. Bolsius); the two adobe buildings reflected the classic Southwestern architectural style Mrs. Kerr had grown to admire.
Mrs. Kerr died December 10, 1977 in Cottonwood, Arizona at her beloved ranch, which is now the home and studio of her friend, artist John Waddell. Her death was noted in papers throughout the state with such headlines as She Also Pioneered, Patron of the Arts, Music Loses a Friend and Grand Lady of Music.

Don't expect a lot from this show. Was the unofficial motto of KASR VIDEO, which made a pleasant surprise when we actually knocked out a great show! The program was a weekly 2 hour public access offshoot of the Arizona State University's original alternative radio station that aired in Phoenix. The music video show featured rarely seen videos and new music not in the main stream. Along with non-conventional interviews it became a decent way to nurse a hangover with the midnight party crowd. These clips are edited as a sort of best of; minus the music videos.
