Shel Silverstein - Bury Me In My Shades
Album: Inside Folk Songs
Utgitt: 1962
Låtskrivere: Shel Silverstein
Sheldon Allan Shel Silverstein /ˈsɪlvərstiːn/[1] (September 25, 1930 – May 10, 1999)[2][3] was an American writer known for his cartoons, songs, and children's books.[2] He styled himself as Uncle Shelby in some works. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold more than 20 million copies.[3] He was the recipient of two Grammy Awards, as well as Golden Globe Award and Academy Award nominations.
Born into a Jewish family,[4] Silverstein grew up in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, attended Roosevelt High School and, later, the University of Illinois, from which he was expelled. He then enrolled in the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts which he was attending when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Japan and Korea.
Lyrics :
In a pad with no heat, up on Sullivan Street
The last of the hipsters lay dyin'
Wearin' his shades, so like no one could tell
Like whether or not he was cryin'
All the junkies and loners
An' coffee shop owners
Were all gathered 'round his bed
He took one last puff
Of some imported stuff
And this are the last words he said
He said, Send my sandals home to Mom,
Hang my T-shirt away
Burn my guitar
In Washington Squar'
'Cause I never learned how to play
Give my pad
To some needy lad
And tell him the rent is all paid
Keep my cash
An' my stash
An' my hash
But bury me in my shades
Bury me in my shades, boys
Bury me in my shades
Burn my guitar
In Washington Squar'
But bury me in my shades.
He said, Give my Brooklyn chicks away
To anyone who needs 'em
Give all of my poems away
To anyone who'll read 'em
Dig me a grave 'neath the coffeeshop
And let a sad folksong be played
Get everyone high
On the moment I die
Bury me in my shades
Bury me in my shades, boys
Bury me in my shades
Burn my guitar
In Washington Squar'
But bury me in my shades.
We threw his sandals out in the hall
We left his T-shirt lay
We sold his guitar
At the corner bar
To someone who knew how to play
We smoked all his stash
And spent all his cash
And threw all his poems away
And Bob got his records
And Ed got his books
And I got the poor beatnik shades
Bury me in my shades, boys, he said
Bury me in my shades
Burn my guitar
In Washington Squar',
But bury me in my shades.

Joseph Arthur is an American singer-songwriter and artist from Akron, Ohio, United States. He is best known for his solo material, and as a member of Fistful of Mercy and RNDM. Combining poetic lyrics with a layered sonic palette, Arthur has built his reputation over the years through critically acclaimed releases and constant touring; his unique solo live performances often incorporate the use of a number of distortion and loop pedals, and his shows are recorded live at the soundboard and made available to concertgoers immediately following the show on recordable media.
Arthur was discovered by Peter Gabriel in the mid-1990s, and signed to Gabriel's Real World label as the first North American artist on the label's roster. Arthur released his debut album, Big City Secrets (1997), and follow-up, Come to Where I'm From (2000), on Real World before signing with various independent labels between 2002 and 2006. He established his own record label, Lonely Astronaut Records, in 2006, and released two studio albums, Let's Just Be (2007) and Temporary People (2008) with backing band The Lonely Astronauts. Arthur subsequently returned to performing and recording as a solo artist, releasing The Graduation Ceremony in 2011 and the double album, Redemption City in 2012.
In 2013, Arthur started a Pledge Music campaign to fund the release of his tenth studio album, The Ballad of Boogie Christ. The album was released on June 11, 2013.
Arthur is also an acclaimed painter and designer. His artwork has graced the sleeves of his entire discography; the sleeve design for his 1999 extended play Vacancy was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.

Chicago - City Video Guide
Chicago, Illinois, rises from the edges of Lake Michigan and offers some of America's best jazz, blues and theater.
Chicago's most visited districts are The Loop, as the city's business center, The Riverwalk and the Miracle Mile. The Miracle Mile houses the Old Water Tower and is full of boutique shops and fine examples from the Chicago School of architecture.
Chicago's parks include the monument-rich Lincoln Park with the Chicago History Museum, Garfield Park Conservatory and Oak Park. Oak Park was home both to the author Ernest Hemingway and the visionary architect Frank Lloyd Wright. In Millennium Park, Frank Gehry's Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the equally futuristic-looking Cloud Gate are the highlights.
Children's attractions in Chicago include the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Museum of Science and Industry or the Field Museum, known from the Indiana Jones movies. The historic Navy Pier also offers waterfront entertainment for all ages, including scenic river cruises.

Hotel California - Lyrics
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night.
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
'This could be heaven or this could be Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year) you can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain,
'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise), bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
'Relax' said the night man,
'We are programmed to receive.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!'

Vigil for Orlando shooting victims in Chicago
(13 Jun 2016) Across the US, people have been gathering at vigils to honour the victims of the shooting attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that left 50 people dead and 53 wounded.
Members of LGBT groups and their supporters met in the Boystown neighbourhood of Chicago on Sunday.
Among them was Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, who said the city has stepped up security in gay communities.
Also there in solidarity were mothers who had lost their children to gun violence.
David Sotomayor, a Chicagoan whose cousin Edward Sotomayor was killed at the club, also spoke.
I cannot even understand why this would happen, he said.
