Yunak Evleri’nin kendine has dar ve kıvrımlı taş merdivenlerinden oluşan geçişlerle herbiri diğerinden farklı kaya odalara ulaşılır. Her odanın karşıdaki görkemli dağlara bakan, kendisine ait özel terası bulunmaktadır.

feat, Othman & Honey :)
Date : 3rd Nov- 5th Nov 2016
- IST-NAV, Turkish Airlines (1h 20m)
- 3D/2N Millstone Cave & Suites (Uçhisar)
** This whole trip is solely free&easy, self planned and sukahati la enjoyyy :)
To begin this story, a lil short rewind back : Turkey has been one of our wish-list destination to visit, initial plan for all this was somehow held back, unable to proceed and has to put on halt due to terrorism, political unrest and military coup outrage in Istanbul during June 2016. We are about to switch destination: HK, Japan, Sydney, Phuket, Bali, JKT all come into picture. Yet it did not materialised and Turkey is back into contention, despite MFA advise to avoid the region for another couple of month, we did some depth research on the updates of the country’s condition. Took some leap of faith and homework to make this trip happen, all in all, this surely won’t be made possible if not due to His will too :) Alhamdulillah ala kulli nikmah..
Our main source of recommendation :
Expedia, Skyscanner, Tripadvisor.
Thanks to friends for all the advise and tips :)
Uçhisar, Cappadocia in brief :
1. The nearest domestic airport to Cappadocia : Nevsehir (30mins distance) and Kayseri (1hr distance)
2. We travel light, store our bulk luggage at Ataturk airport locker.
3. No direct flight available. If you gonna book a direct connecting flight e.g. SIN-IST-NAV, be prepared to expect a longer connecting time. Take note on your departure and arrival, there’s two international airport at Istanbul. Ataturk & Sabiha Gokcen. Gauge your time if u have to make a self-transfer, consider as well the tight security clearance and heavy traffic in case u have to make point to point transfer :)
4. We manage to find our cost saving way : Exit Istanbul for couple of days (Taksim), en route Cappadocia via Turkish Airlines, purchased separate domestic return air tickets IST-NAV for $65 per pax at that point. Thanks to Skyscanner :) Other domestic flight : Pegasus, atlas global available at reasonable price too.
5. At Cappadocia, do not ever miss out to stay at cave hotel. Its beyond magical and very unique experience ! We get our stay rate slashed down with Expedia membership points :)
6. if you wish to do a lot of shopping and easy access to restaurant etc, pick to stay at Goreme as its more centrally located and more likely resemble a town. Urgup is more well-heeled town built on a hill. We stay at Uchisar, the highest point in Cappadocia. Breathtaking view, serene but then is away from shops, attraction and nightlife.
7. Hospitality and the staff at Millstone Cave is very niceeee, they even show us around the area and make sure we are comfy thru out our stay.
8. Uphill to Uchisar, i’m not sure if i able to self-drive with that kind of narrow and bumpy road condition.
9. We choose not to pre-booked any form activities online, we were advised and read many online tips to get it locally as its more cheaper local rate, yes we get our hot-air balloon tix by recommendation from our hotel owner, Achievement unlocked :)
10. There’s a lot of history and attraction to see i.e Uchisar castle, pigeon valley, fairy chimney, open-air museum, underground city. But we didn't explore much..
Expenditure:
* Transfer (Argeus) Airport to Uchisar ₺40
* Hot Air Balloon €120 each
* Balloon Pic ₺10
* Room Service Food ₺158
* Service staff tips ₺100
* Transfer (Argeus) Uchisar to Airport ₺40
Grand Total = ₺348 & €240
(rate TL₺1 = SGD$0.40)
These figure non inclusive of airfare and accommodation cost. We used GoPro Hero4 Session & iPhone6.
Adios for now

Entry Title: Hot air balloon ride and little sleep
Entry:
We had a stopover in Istanbul last night from Pamukkale to Kayseri (Cappadocia). Once in Istanbul Lucia left us and started her journey home. She had to take two buses to get to the other airport near Istanbul where she has a direct flight home at a ridiculous hour.
Our flight to Kayseri was quite late, at midnight. We didn't get into Kayseri until 1:30am where we walked off the plane and from there into the domestic terminal. At least, I walked into the domestic terminal. The other three girls somehow walked into international and when I tried to leave domestic to go to the international the security wouldn't let me. I told him I had 3 friends with me and they have disappeared and I want to see if they went to international but he wouldn't let me. Then a woman security guard came over and she was more helpful. She said she would go to the other terminal and get them, since I was now standing there with all of our luggage. The other security guard was at least kind enough to help me get all our **** on a cart and outside where our driver was waiting. I told the driver that there were 4 of us but 3 were MIA so he also went over to international to find them. Eventually they were located and we got on our way. Carolyn had arranged a shuttle for us so we didn't have to trouble ourselves with finding the hotel.
We arrived at our cave hotel at 3am. The hotel is pretty awesome, I thought, but it was hard to tell at that hour. Still, sleeping in a cave, can't be boring. Our room has a lot of character, and TWO BEDS! Yay! The hotel owner woke up to let us in our rooms and gave us a brief tour on the room and how to lock the doors. I was too tried to really pay attention.
Jenn and I are sharing a room. We fell into our beds at 3:30am and woke up again at 4:45am. We had about 20 minutes to get ready before our pickup came to take us to the hot air balloon launch point. I woke, brushed my teeth and dressed warmly since it was so freaking early. We stumbled to the car park and got in the shuttle. I had to sit in the front seat without a seat belt. The driver told me not to worry because we didn't have far to go. I worried.
We arrived at the balloon launch site and joined a large crowd. They all seemed to be together, a bunch of blue hairs enjoying their golden years. There were only 2 balloons and about 50 people. Our driver told us there were 25 people per balloon. That seemed like a lot considering the size of the little baskets. We waited around while the balloon filled with air and snacked on the breakfast; a plate of assorted cookies and tea and coffee.
Finally the balloon stood upright and they sat the basket on its bottom, then told us to get in. The basket is actually compartmentalized and the 4 of us all got in 1 together. A couple joined us but they stuck to the short edge of the compartment so we lined ourselves up along the long edge. It worked out great actually because the pilot turned the balloon slowly as we floated so you didn't have to move from your spot to see the 360 degree view. I was standing on the inside, right next to the pilot's compartment. It was a very warm spot because he kept blasting heat into the balloon, as you might expect. There was a blast guard over our heads but it was still pretty toasty.
Once we were in the air it was absolutely breathtaking. We were surrounded by balloons rising around us. Below we had an amazing view of the fairy chimneys and other strange rock formations that make Cappadocia famous. The sun was out but still quite low in the sky, casting a beautiful glow on the mountains and rocks. It was an expensive ride but totally worth it. Our pilot, Hasan, was fabulous. I think we were really lucky to have him. Afterward he told us that he was the first balloon pilot in Turkey and had been doing it for decades - I think he said 25 years but can't be sure.
When we were in the sky he would navigate the balloon extremely close to some of the rocks, close enough to reach out and touch them. He would take us through the narrow gap between the fairy chimneys and down into the picturesque valleys, then high above it all. The ...

Kas, Turkey.
Kas, Turkey.
For Great Rates, More Information or to Book Online, Click Here:
Kas is a seaside town on the Mediterranean coast in southwestern Turkey. The modern town occupies the site of ancient Antiphellos, with still-visible ruins including a theater. The 4th-century-B.C. Lion Tomb, with 2 carved lion heads, is one of many Lycian rock tombs in the area. The town center has whitewashed houses and buildings covered in bougainvillea. The Lycian Way, a marked trail, passes by the town.
The town of Kaş is on a hill running down to the Turquoise Coast of southwestern Turkey. The district has a typical Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and warm, wet winters, which allows the growth of oranges, lemons and bananas. The lowland areas are also planted with cut flowers and a variety of fruits and vegetables, many are grown all year round under glass. The hillsides produce honey, and almonds, while at high altitudes there are extensive pine forests. The weather is drier at high altitudes. Although agriculture is still important, tourism is the main source of income in the district, which has many hotels and guest houses.
The tourist industry is centered on the pleasant town of Kas, but many other coastal towns and villages in the district have plenty of accommodation for visitors including Kalkan and Gelemiş. The district can be reached from both Antalya and Dalaman airports.
Kaş itself is a quiet pleasant town with its blue sea and narrow streets scented with jasmine flowers. There are plenty of little guest houses, quiet cafes serving home cooking, or small bars to relax after a day's scuba diving. Kaş has an annual arts festival, jazz concerts in the Hellenistic theatre and the Kiln Under the Sea arts collective have held underwater ceramics exhibitions here.
Kad is one of the leading spots for scuba diving in Turkey. Its ideal for beginners as well as advanced divers. There are more than 15 dive centers and diving schools, mostly located at the local port. They offer guided diving trips to the 50 dive spots in the vicinity. Diving in Kas offers beautiful array of fish and other sea creatures like octopus and sea turtles. Besides the biological diversity, Kas offers a vast variety of underwater cultural heritage. Among various wreck sites, six artificial wrecks are worth visiting. These wrecks are submerged to create artificial reefs and touristic diving spots. There are two historically important wreck sites, an airplane from World War II and a cargo ship from 1950's sink near the small islands in the extremities of Kas. One last important diving spot is so called Kas Archaeopark Site that is an experimental archaeology project conducted by Underwater Research Society (Sualtı Araştırmaları Derneği-SAD) in 2006. In this scientific project, an interpretative reconstruction of the Uluburun wreck and its cargo is placed underwater.
Outdoor sport activities attract the more adventurous visitors of Kas, especially small group holidays from Europe and independent travelers. To name a few popular adventures:
Sea Kayaking at Kekova
Mountainbiking the backcountry
Trekking the Lycian Way
Canyoning in the Kibris Canyon

How we planned our Turkey Destination Holiday Tips&Tricks to plan an Experiential FamilyHoliday.
Point No. 0: If you want a good holiday, it makes sense to plan a bit, especially if you like planning (which according to me, is the real fun of the holiday!)
1. For a large country like Turkey, it is very important to know the geography/topography of the country. So do some research about the same, with a map at your disposal. This will help you in getting the perspective, and will shed some light on the level of granularity you must get into to plan your holiday.
2. Of course, you can go on a family holiday through a travel agent, or directly on your own, and it's solely your choice, but what I always prefer for our International Holidays is to be executed with the help of travel agents/experts. They also serve as a bouncing board for our ideas. A curated Personalized Holiday through a travel agent is a bit expensive, but it may be worthwhile for the ultimate experience.
3. We strongly believe that if you want to go on holiday to see, feel and immerse yourself in a large country, it's better to focus on one country rather than hopping from one to other. (Our Turkey trip: around a month. UK: three weeks. Egypt: three weeks. Northern France: 10 days.)
4. If you really want to appreciate the country and its diversity, it's always better to go by road (by car) rather than by flight. Though the flights were cheaper in Turkey, we decided to go by road (car) - and we were glad we did it. .
5. Always plan beforehand on the make/model/brand of car you want for your long-ish holiday. For Turkey, we were five people and we could have easily got ourselves something like a Toyota Innova (MUV). So instead of taking a six seater car for five people, we actually booked a fifteen seater van, a Mercedes Sprinter, so that we could travel in comfort & luxury (we could even sleep in that).
6. Plan your circuit at a granular level, so that you do not travel more than 600-700 km per day or else it will becomes very hectic, especially with slightly older folks.
7. We had a 3G holiday i.e. 3 generations. So the youngest one was 18 and the eldest was 75! So you have to take care that it doesn’t become very tiresome for some.
8. Next thing is, because you’re 20-25 days on road, it's very important that you get a very good driver. Eventually the driver becomes part of your family during this period, so it's important to get to know them beforehand. Our driver was extremely helpful during these times, acting as an interpreter and helping us engage with the locals more authentically. (It's always a good idea to learn a few words in the local language. One of my favourite Turkish words to this day - Dondurma, meaning ice cream, Ane - mother, Merhaba - greetings)
9. Try to avoid driving during the night. Though the roads are very good all through Turkey, you'll only be able to enjoy the scenery if you travel in the day time.
10. Rather than hiring a guide for your entire trip, opt for local guides at each destination. For eg. we had a guide in Cappadocia, Ephesus, Troy, Bergama and also Sultanahmet in Istanbul.
11. We decided on a particular choice of hotels in each destination before we went. So, do a little bit of research about the hotels and do the booking accordingly. (TripAdvisor reviews, YouTube vlogs, social media comments, and of course, travel agents' recommendations). I've found that a mix of local brands and international luxury chains provides an interesting experience basket.
12. Wherever you want to go, especially for long trips, buy local SIM cards, which are very easily accessible today. We took 4 SIM cards and each from different companies - Vodafone, TurkCell, Turk Telekom and Reliance Jio. I took a 50GB data plan for myself, but I could finish only 25GB in the entire trip
13. Always enjoy the local food. In Turkey, you’ll find a lot of kebabs, local pizza (called pide or lahmachun), fresh fish, cheeses, cold cuts and lots of salad. You’ll also find Indian restaurants in the outer parts of Istanbul. For people who’re vegetarian, you’ll find very few options as compared to non-veg. Curiously, in Goreme, Cappadocia we discovered Namaste India , an authentic Indian joint with great service.
14. You should remember that in the historical sites of Turkey, you have to do a lot of walking, so be prepared. Get good walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and hats, especially if you’re going in summers.
15. If you’re going on a long trip, always keep a day's gap from the time you land in any country to the start of your road trip. You must always keep a cushion day at the beginning, and at the end of your journey. Like in our case, with Turkish Airlines from Mumbai, our flight was delayed by 6 hours. So if we had immediate plans, it would have thrown our itinerary out of gear. Because we kept one day buffer at the start, it did not affect our road trip.
16. Of course, make a budget at the start, Usually a personalised, curated trip will be more expensive than group tours/packages offered by travel operators .

Antalya is Turkey's prime holiday resort in the Mediterranean region. It is an attractive and picturesque city with palm-lined boulevards, narrow winding streets and some great Antalya hotels. This metropolis consists of five boroughs: Konyaaltı (112,647), Kepez (399,006), Muratpaşa (416,576), Aksu ( 45,094), and Döşemealtı (27,995).
Antalya is in south-west Anatolia, on the Mediterranean Gulf of Antalya, approximately 546 kilometres (339 mi) from Ankara, 562 kilometres (349 mi) from Adana, 466 kilometres (290 mi) from Izmir, and 727 kilometres (452 mi) from Istanbul.
The Taurus mountain range of southern Anatolia runs parallel to the Mediterranean in an east-west direction, resulting in the formation of narrow coastal plains surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on the fourth. Some parts of the coast feature mountains plunging sharply into the sea, forming small natural bays and peninsulas. Antalya is situated on one such plain where the mountains recede from the shore, consisting of two flat areas formed of travertine rock at a mean height of 35 metres (115 ft); the town center is located on the rocky plain closest the coast, with urban sprawl extending to the Kepezüstü Plain further inland.
Main sights
Antalya has beaches including Konyaaltı, Lara and Karpuzkaldıran. For winter sports, Beydağları and Saklikent are both natural beauties of the city.
There are a number of mosques, churches, madrasahs, masjids, hans (caravanserai) and hamams (Turkish bath) in the city. Kaleiçi, the harbor, which the city walls enclose, is the oldest part of the city. Kaleiçi features many historic houses with traditional Turkish and local Greek architecture.

Fly in a balloon, the most vivid impression of visiting Cappadocia. Firstly, visual impressions: in good calm weather at dawn, at least 150 balloons fly into the sky above Cappadocia, and in only one basket from 16 people.
Secondly, fly on a ball and look at all this from a different angle - from a height. This is a mandatory point of the program - to come to Cappadocia and not to fly - what's the point? To do this, just contact

Entry Title: Bedrock: Yabba daba doo (the real life rock city)
Entry:
Traveling in style (an overnight bus) resulted in a 8:30 arrival in Gorome (AKA Bedrock), in the county of Capadocia. This town and the surrounding area is famous for a lunar like landscape of which the locals have burrowed their homes and churches into the stone cliffs. In one word the landscape looked and felt like Bedrock, the hometown of the Flintstones. Yabba a dabba doo. As adopted cave dwellers (our dorm room was in a cave), we headed out for a day tour, to see some of the local sights in the short time frame available to us. Our first stop was Pigeon Valley for some scenic/touristy photo's before heading the underground city of Derinkuyu. Imagine.... underground city, two tall Aussies and a game of hide and seek. Within the underground city, we discovered that the city was once used to hide from invaders by the local towns people. The city could support the towns' people for up to a month, with wine making facilities, a stable and a chapel. The next stop was the Ihlara valley, where Donna and myself acted as kids once again and explored the hills and caves despite the tour guides distaste. Ironically, our next stop was another city carved into the mountains where Donna and I heard that there was some secret passages. Well like a red rag to a bull, we saw it our challenge to find the secret passageways. Whilst exploring the caves, a local boy encouraged us to follow him (he had found a dark passageway). Feeling around for about 10meters, we started to use the flash of the camera to guide our way through the secret passageway to the chapel. We truly took on a Lara Croft / Indiana Jones personalities whilst we were here. That night we decided to splurge and try a Turkish dinner with entertainment in the form of twirling dervishes and a belly dancer. The night was hilarious as one of our friends who we met in Gallipoli tried belly dancing with the professional belly dancer. At the tail end of the night we were a little drunk but with some great memories. Awaking slowly the next morning, we headed out to see the Gorome open air museum (a tourist trap to see some Church's in the hills). Donna and I both decided to leave the tourist scene and try walking two local valleys (Red and Love valleys) to find some adventure. Hopefully the photo's tell you a story of some of the fun we got up to on our trip.
