Japanology Journeys In Japan S06E14 Atami The Spa Revival
Atami, in Shizuoka prefecture, is one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts and is only 45 minutes from Tokyo. The city, which has been a resort for hundreds of years, has seen hard times. Tourism was down from the 1990s to 2011. However, in recent years it has been showing miraculous recovery, and the city is regaining its vibrancy. On Journeys in Japan, American actor Charles Glover gets a sense of Atami through its enterprising residents-some running veteran establishments and others turning to innovation to secure their future. He experiences, and shares, why Atami continues to delight visitors.

Afternoon in Aomori
The guys are hungry for some ramen and go searching for a very popular restaurant in Aomori with a special dish: Butter Ramen!! An Aomori specialty and damn is it good! Then the guys head over to the visitor center by the famous Aomori bridge for an unobstructed view of the city from the observation deck. After a full day of hangin' out, they grab a quick beer and board the train back to Misawa. This is the final of a 3-part Aomori episode.

Tetsuo KIDOKORO : Process of Lifestyle-based Regional Revitalisation in Japan
Tetsuo KIDOKORO
Department of Urban Engineering, University of Tokyo, Japan
Process of Lifestyle-based Regional Revitalisation in Japan
This discussion aims to examine the current process of regional revitalization in Japan. Firstly, the innovative town hypothesis is proposed, which is composed of the lifestyle industry hypothesis and the creative town hypothesis. The viability of these hypotheses are discussed through the case studies of the small to medium-sized cities in Japan: Hachinohe City, Iida City, Nagahama City, Kamiyama Town, Uchiko Town and Shiwa Town which are considered as examples of some of the best practices in this field. These cases are classified into three approaches: government-led, collaborative and private sector-led.
Dr. Kidokoro has been an Associate Professor in Department of Urban Engineering, University of Tokyo since 1996. Specializes in urban and regional planning. He acquired his Ph. D. from the University of Tokyo (Urban Planning) in 1993. Job experiences include: Visiting Professor, United Nations University, Visiting Lecturer, the Dept. of Urban and Regional Planning, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Associate Expert, Human Settlements Unit, UNESCAP, National Expert, United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD). He also worked as a Consultant for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and as an Expert for OECD.
He wrote many books in the field of urban and regional planning including: Kidokoro, T. (2016) “Creation of Collaborative Networks at the City-Regional Level: Two Innovative Cases in Japan “, in Sustainable Landscape Planning in Selected Urban Regions, Springer (Forthcoming); Shima, N. and Kidokoro, T. (eds.) (2013) Understanding African Urbanization: Discourse, Representation and Actuality, CSUR; Kidokoro, T. et al (eds.)
Breakfast is buffet style.
Breakfast was a very large venue.
I was surprised.
It seems like a wedding hall.
There were a lot of Japanese and Western cuisine delicious.
There is a dried fish.
Dried fish can be grilled lightly on my own.
It is already baked.
Therefore, we can eat.
The purpose is to lightly warm.
Carangidae,Sillaginidae,Pleuronectidae,Sandfish and puffer fish.
It is variously.
We can eat favorite one.
I am pleased with Pleuronectidae.
What food is also very tasty.
So I ate a lot.
Supper and breakfast are delicious.
And service was also a very good hotel of large satisfaction.
Very delectable.

What Sushi In Japan Is Really Like | Life In Japan | EP.326
Welcome to EP.326! TGIF! I love weekends because that means that I get to get away from my computer for a few hours and actually breathe some outside air. We went to Hamazushi for dinner (shocker), and I wanted to show you a bit of what sushi is like over here. (hint: not what you expect if you're used to American style sushi). Now, let me just state, this is a chain restaurant, so it's not like super fancy, expensive sushi that is available here, but nonetheless, we still really enjoy it. Basically lots of different salmon, tuna, and you can't forget everyones favorite...nato lol
