« Oradour n'est pas un cas isolé en Europe occidentale. En Italie, en Belgique, en Grèce, des divisions SS basculées à l'Ouest après avoir opéré en Union soviétique perpètrent de semblables tueries, suivant les méthodes éprouvées quotidiennement en Ukraine et en Biélorussie. En Italie, le 12 août 1944, le bataillon de la 16e Panzerdivision, dirigé par Walter Reder, un vétéran de la division Totenkopf et de la bataille de Kharkov, exécute les 560 femmes, enfants et vieillards du village toscan de Sant'Anna di Stazzema, avant d'y mettre le feu. Quelques semaines plus tard, près de Bologne, cette même unité exécutera les 955 habitants de Marzabotto. Comme à Oradour, aucun lien ne sera établi entre la population civile et un quelconque groupe de partisans. »

The town of Oradour was completely wiped out in WW2 on 10 June 1944. The village was destroyed and over 640 inhabitants - women and children were massacred by the German SS. The entire town is preserved so people would remember the horror that happened in 1944. One of the most intense visits we already did.

In June 1944, the SS killed at least 642 people in the French village of Oradour-sur-Glane. Only now have the German police searched the apartments of the soldiers allegedly involved.To this day, none of the participants in the massacre have been charged in a German court. Now, almost 70 years later, the public prosecutor in Dortmund has ordered that the apartments of six former soldiers be searched for old photographs, diaries, and other documents that could serve as evidence. The accused themselves are so old that they are hardly fit for questioning. In France, the investigations are being followed with interest. The war crime in Oradour remains unforgotten, and the ruins of the village have been left untouched as a memorial.

Robert Hébras, est aujourd'hui le dernier survivant du massacre d'Oradour-sur-Glane du 10 juin 1944. A l'occasion du 75e anniversaire de la tragédie, France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine l'a accompagné, une dernière fois, dans les rues du village martyr. Une production •3NoA.
Il a 19 ans, presque insouciant. Il va vivre l'horreur mais il va survivre.
Ce 10 juin 1944, il n'a pas peur malgré les uniformes. Il n'a pas peur malgré les avertissements de sa mère.
Il ignore tout de la guerre. Il n'a pas peur… jusqu'à ce que la mitraillette se mette à tirer, jusqu'à ce que ses camarades tombent sur lui, jusqu'à ce que les flammes gagnent son corps.
Pourquoi je suis en vie ? Je ne sais pas, je ne sais pas…
Robert Hébras est aujourd'hui le dernier des six survivants du massacre commis à Oradour-sur-Glane par les hommes de la Division SS Das Reich. 75 ans après l'indicible et avant que sa voix ne s'éteigne, Robert Hébras a accepté, une ultime fois, de refaire le chemin de sa maison à la place du village, puis de la grange Laudy à la porte qui s'ouvrait sur la liberté et sur la vie.
Le 10 juin 1944, Robert Hébras a perdu sa mère et ses deux sœurs, brûlées vives dans l'église. En mémoire des 642 enfants, hommes et femmes victimes de la barbarie, dans ce petit village de Haute-Vienne aujourd'hui figé dans les heures sombres de l'Histoire,
Robert Hébras nous livre un témoignage personnel et humain, pour que personne, jamais, n'oublie.

In the afternoon of 10th June 1944 a detachment of SS troops arrived in Oradour-sur-Glane, a peaceful town near the city of Limoges in central France. The troops sealed off the entrances to the town and rounded up the inhabitants, including those they had collected from nearby farms on their way in. The assembled residents were initially told that this was to be an identity check. However the women and children were then separated from the men folk and the (200 or so) men were split up into smaller groups and taken to various barns or warehouses around the town centre where SS troops set up machine guns facing them. The women and children (approx 450 of them) were taken to the church and locked in. On a pre-determined signal the machine gunners opened fire on all the men, slaughtering them in cold blood. Once the firing had ceased the troops covered the dead and dying with wood and straw and set fire to them. At the church, soldiers brought in a box containing some sort of explosive device and detonated it amidst the terrified women and children. It is believed that this was supposed to produce an asphyxiating gas rather than being purely explosive, however its effect was to set the women and children into a screaming panic. The SS then started firing their machine guns into the church through the doors and windows and also threw in hand grenades to murder the women and children. As with the barns where the men were held, the SS then piled in wood and straw and set light to the church. They then proceeded to loot the town and burn down all the buildings. Only one woman managed to escape from the church, through one of the windows. Several of the men escaped the slaughter at the various barns and managed to hide or flee the town. At the end of the day, the SS had murdered a total of 642 men women and children. Following the war the French government decided to preserve the town in its ruined state as a memorial to the murdered inhabitants. It is today still possible to visit the town and get and idea of the terrible atrocity carried out there. I personally made a visit to Oradour in June 2005 and the following pages are presented in the interests of those who are unable to visit the town themselves.

Depuis décembre 2011 avec l'accès aux archives de la Werhmacht, la justice allemande arrive à retrouver la trace des anciens nazis encore vivants, et qui ont participé au massacre du 10 juin 1944 à Oradour-sur-Glane (Haute-Vienne)
On ne peut se réjouir de la satisfaction que peuvent éprouver aujourd'hui les rescapés, de savoir que la justice allemande continue d'enquêter et puisse aboutir, en dehors d'une condamnation, au moins à quelques révélations qu'ils attendent depuis maintenant 70 ans.
Mais cette recherche parmi les 18 millions de fiches, demandera beaucoup, beaucoup de temps.
Un petit calcul montre qu'une personne qui arrivait à consulter 1000 fiches/jour/travail, elle lui faudrait plus de ... 78 ans !

The Doomed Village of Oradour Sur Glane
The SS Panzer Division Das Reich, destroyed the French village of Oradour-sur-Glane during WWII and today it is preserved In a Ruined State. This website describes the history, background and events leading up to the Nazi war-crime of the attack upon what is now called the Martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane. This atrocity was carried out on Saturday 10th June 1944 by soldiers of the Der Führer Regiment of the 2nd Waffen-SS Panzer Division, Das Reich. On that day, without giving any explanation for their action, they killed a total of 642 men, women and children, leaving only a few survivors. They then destroyed the entire village of Oradour and to this day there is no universally accepted explanation for the massacre. In order to gain some lasting impact from this tragedy, visitors to the site today are exhorted in both English and French to: Remember! People believe their is strong paranormal activity.
