How does the TBC work?
The expedition consists of a group of (10 maximum) adventurous & passionate people from countries around the world, travelling and trekking across Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), from one side to the other, to raise awareness and urgently needed funds to help save the orangutan and their jungle habitat. The challenge this year will run from West to East and will start in Ketapang West Borneo (Kalimantan Barat), and finish in Balikpapan, East Borneo (Kalimantan Timor). Pongpol Adireksarn - Tanjung Puting National Park - Rimba Orangutan Ecolodge
Rimba Ecolodge was recently proud to host Pongpol Adireksarn and his team from Aries Television Thailand; Videographer Jack Na Ayudhaya and Production Manager Kongsak Sumano
While at Rimba the team captured magnificent footage of the wildlife around the lodge and into the Tanjung Puting National Park.
They have kindly allowed us to showcase there work.
Thank you from all at Ecolodges Indonesia.
Rimba Ecolodge in one of the few remaining places on earth where Orang-utans can be seen in the wild.
Perched over the Sekonyer River on the edge of the Tanjung Puting National Park, Rimba Orang-utan Eco Lodge provides a base to explore the lush surrounding rainforest and encounter orang-utans and eight other primate species and rich bird life.
Rimba is reached only by boat from the port of Kumai.
Arriving at the Lodge jetty in the middle of the forest is an unforgettable experience.
The jetty connects to all rooms, the reception area, office and restaurant by a series of covered boardwalks. The Lodge provides a base from which you can explore the surrounding rainforest and Tanjung Puting National Park.
Take a walk from your room along the bird walk, hear the plaintive cry of Gibbons, early birdsong and the resident Macaque monkey troop from your comfortable room, set right on the edge of the gently flowing Sekonyer river.
From the Lodge you travel by klotok (wooden boats) upstream, surrounded by rainforest, to a number of feeding stations in the Tanjung Puting National Park, the most famous of which is Camp Leakey, established in 1971 by Professor Birute Galdikas, a student of Professor Louis Leakey (together with Jane Goodall and Diane Fossey).
As you walk through the rainforest you often see orangutans and at Camp Leakey you sometimes see gibbons as well as many butterflies and birds.
At the feeding stations you will get a wonderful opportunity to see these amazing primates up close.
You might also take a night safari to see tarsiers, glowing mushrooms, fireflies and perhaps owls.

Indonesia Day #12 - Last day in Borneo, we stopped in the Sungai Sekonyer Village to visit the locals, then we headed back to the port where we said goodbye to our new friends before we flew to Jakarta.
Orangutan in Tanjung Puting National Park
I was recently in Tandjung Puting National Park, deep in the heart of the Borneo rainforest, where I was accompanying clients on our Orangutan Conservation Tour. I had only been in the forest a few minutes after the boat journey that drifted along the small tributaries through the thick rainforest, when I heard something in the trees above and was lucky enough to capture this orangutan on film showing why they are ideally suited to life in the trees! Sumatra Adventure 3 - Meeting an Orangutan
Keeping it mellow with this one. I've never been hiking in the jungle. There was no guarantee that my guide and I would find any orangutans during our trek, and if we did, If we did see any, I was expecting them to be up in the canopy, not hanging out at eye level.

The spirit of #saveorangutans reminds us of this fun we had in Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Kalimantan, exactly a year ago. (And later we found out it's Camp Leakey instead of Leakley.. sowwy!)
By the way, sorry about the quality, it was the best that we could do.
Who knew that orangutans would give us so many things to explore... like our lipsyncing skill and couture posing..!
Find out more about the #saveorangutans action here
