Unique and RARE THAI FOOD in Chiang Mai, Thailand! | Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai Tour

T-shirts and caps:
CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - In this video I’m going to show you a mix of restaurants and street food in Chiang Mai - and everything a little rare, unique, or unheard of. We ate a one of a kind satay in Chiang mai for breakfast, had rare Thai food for lunch, and amazing seafood for dinner - but seafood in Chiang Mai? I’m going to share all the restaurants with you here.
Beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะใต้ต้นข่อย) - For breakfast we went to a small street food stall serving a unique type of beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะ). It was cool to sit down right where they were being grilled and eat stick after stick. The beef was so juicy, but the sauce was a little sweet for me.
Price - 5 THB ($0.15) per stick
Saiyut's Kitchen (ครัวอาจารย์สายหยุด) - This is a top restaurant in Chiang Mai that serves a mix of high end, Royal, and old family Thai recipes. Here are the main dishes we ordered:
Saeng wa goong (แสร้งว่ากุ้ง)
Nam prik kai boo (นำ้พริกไข่ปู)
Chaw muang (ช่อม่วง)
Kratong tong (กระทงทอง)
Karawaek sodsee (การะเวกสอดสี)
Room (หรุ่ม)
Chiang da pad kai (เชียงดาผัดไข่)
Khao yam (ข้าวยำ)
Pla tod samoon prai (ปลาทอดสมุนไพร)
Gaeng ranjuan (แกงรัญจวน)
Mee krob Chaowang (หมี่กรอบชาววัง)
The food was overall quite good. It’s not always my personal favorite type of Thai food, but I did enjoy the food here, and the presentation and history. Food is more on the sweet side than spicy side. Well worth trying when you’re in Chiang Mai.
Total price - 1,725 THB ($52.31)
Lerd Rote Tai Rom Ma-Feuang (เลิศรสใต้ร่มมะเฟือง) - Finally on this best restaurants tour of Chiang Mai we decided to go to a restaurant that many locals from Chiang Mai recommend for seafood. Yes, I was a little hesitant to eat seafood in Chiang Mai, considering its distance from the ocean, be we went for it. Turned out to be quite an amazing seafood meal, although expensive, it was delicious.
Shrimp chilies salt (กุ้งพริกเกลือ)
Tom yum fish (ต้มยำปลา นำ้ใส)
Black pepper crab (ปูผัดพริกไทยดำ)
Total price - 2,000 THB ($60.65)

Street Food in Thailand - NIGHT MARKET Thai Food in Chiang Mai, Thailand!
SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:
One of the top things to do in Chiang Mai is walk around and eat through one of the many Chiang Mai night markets - I think Chiang Mai might be the capital of night markets in the world. There’s a night market for every day of the week and some of them stretch longer than you can see.
At night markets in Chiang Mai you’ll find a huge selection of things to buy, from clothes and antiques to even entertainment like music and Thai massage. But for food lovers, the best thing about visiting any Thai night market is the food.
On Sunday night in Chiang Mai the most popular night market is Tha Pae Walking Street (ตลาดท่าแพ) - it really is an entire street that shuts down for a couple of kilometers, and the entire street is filled with things to look at, buy, and eat. Most of the food is set up in designated area, especially in the small courtyards of temples.
In this Thai street food tour of Chiang Mai, the plan was just to walk around and see what looked good to eat.
Here’s what we ate:
Sai krok Isaan (ไส้กรอกอีสาน), Sai ua (ไส้อั่ว) - This impressive cart was filled with different varieties of Thai sausage, both Isaan style sausage, and Northern Thai herb sausage.
Total price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Pork meatballs (ลูกชิ้นหมู) - I’m usually not a huge fan, but these 100% pork meatballs were pretty tasty.
Price - 40 THB ($1.21)
Pork ham (หมูยอ) - After meeting up with my friends Tom, Joel, and JJ, they had already been snacking on some moo yaw, a Vietnamese style ham sausage.
Grilled egg (ไข่ป่าม) - This is a unique Northern Thai food, of grilled egg.
Price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Sticky rice (ข้าวหนุกงา) - One of the Thai snacks I had never tried before were sticky rice patties. They were interesting and quite tasty.
Price - 20 THB ($0.61)
Pork ribs (ซี่โครงหมู), Crab egg custard (อ่องปู) - We saw the ribs being grilled and couldn't’t resist. They were alright, but the paddy crab egg custard was more unique.
Price - 180 THB ($5.46)
Durian (ทุเรียน) - Finally, although a little overpriced, and not season, we couldn’t resist a little nugget of durian to end this Chiang Mai night market Thai food tour.
Price - 200 THB ($6.06)

Tom from Chaseki Tea ( and Joel (
This video begins an ultimate Thai food tour of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Get ready for some incredibly delicious Northern Thai food!
Khao soi (ข้าวซอย sometimes khao soy), or curry noodles, is one of the most popular Thai dishes in northern Thailand. It has a very unique history and though details are not completely known, most say that it originally was brought from Yunnan, China through Myanmar, adapting along the way, and finally reaching Chiang Mai, where it’s become of the iconic foods. In Thailand though, is where the dish accumulated coconut milk, which is found in most version now.
What is khao soi (ข้าวซอย)? Khao soi (ข้าวซอย) typically includes yellow egg noodles of some form, which are combined with a meat - usually beef or chicken (and I typically order beef as much as I can) - topped in coconut milk curry sauce, and finally sprinkled with coconut cream, and finally topped with crispy fried noodles.
There’s a massive debate over who serves the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, and I don’t think it will ever be resolved because everyone has a different taste. But along with the help of my friend Tom (from Chaseki tea shop in Chiang Mai: and Joel, we set off to eat 5 bowls of khao soi in a row to share with you what we think is the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Here are the restaurants we ate at:
1. Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม - This is a longtime restaurant serving khao soi in what is known to be quite a traditional version. It’s a Halal restaurant, and their beef is amazing, but the curry is quite mild in spice.
Price - 60 THB ($1.82) for big bowl
2. Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย - Next we went to Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย), what was many years ago one of my favorite bowls, but this time?
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
3. Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม - Many locals from Chiang Mai recommended I check out Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม), and it was amazing. The size, and the taste were spectacular.
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
4. Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี - About a 10 minute drive from the center of Chiang Mai we found ourselves in a neighborhood for our fourth bowl of khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี). The Aunty was so friendly and I watched her as she assembled our bowls, amazing.
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
5. Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย - Finally, to end this best khao soi tour of Chiang Mai we went to Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย), what is one of the most popular restaurants to eat khao soi in Chiang Mai.
Price - 50 THB ($1.52) per bowl
Make sure you watch the entire video to find out the best khao soi in Chiang Mai!

Chiang Mai Street Food at Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก)
There's a lot of delicious Chiang Mai street food to eat when you visit, and one of my favorite places in the city, during the evening is Chang Phueak. More details here:
If you love to eat Thai street food, you'll have no problem discovering the full range, more like a plethora of food available at your fingertips when you're in Chiang Mai. From the morning until the evening you'll find street food vendors scattered throughout the city, and tucked into shopping markets. While there are many places to eat Chiang Mai street food in the evening, one place that I really like is called Pratu Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก), which literally translates to the sacred white elephant gate. It's located right across the street from the north side of the Chiang Mai wall, so the area is easily accessible central Chiang Mai.
During the daytime, Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก) is more of just an empty sidewalk, with some stores, but not too much going on. In the evening is when the Chiang Mai street food stall begin to set up their shops and open for business. My wife told me there were two main stall we needed to eat at, one for the stewed pork leg, known in Thai as kha moo, and one for the suki, the Thai style of sukiyaki.
We first started with a stall known as Khao Kha Moo Chang Phueak (ข้าวขาหมูช้างเผือก). You'll know you're in the right spot because of the owner, who is the vendor, who sells her stewed pork leg while wearing a cowboy hat - you can also call her stall, the Cowboy lady street food stall in Chiang Mai, and everyone will know who you're talking about. She serves a Thai dish known as khao kha moo (ข้าวขาหมู), which is pork leg or knuckle, served with rice. I ordered just a normal plate, so it came with rice on the bottom and a good handful of tender pork on top. Along with the pork, I got a hard boiled egg and then garnished my entire dish with vinegar, raw garlic, and raw chilies. I would have to say it was one of the better plates of khao kha moo (ข้าวขาหมู) that I've ever had - I would highly recommend it.
After completing my plate of khao kha moo (ข้าวขาหมู), I went next door to the next Chiang Mai street food stall known as Suki Koka (สุกี้โคคา). They are equally as famous as the pork leg stall, but for the Thai dish of suki. You can either order the dry stir fried version, or the soup version of Thai suki: I got the suki haeng moo (สุกี้แห้งหมู), the dry version with pork. It was a mixture of mostly napa cabbage, pork, and mung bean noodles, all served with a sauce that was tangy and had a wonderful aroma of sesame oil to it. I absolutely loved the suki at Suki Koka (สุกี้โคคา). It was different from other Thai versions that I've had before, and it was so fresh and there was so much flavor packed into it - excellent. There are a few other street food stalls to choose from, but these two are the most popular, and I think they serve the best food.
Here are the two street food stalls I ate at Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก).
Khao Kha Moo Chang Phueak (ข้าวขาหมูช้างเผือก):
Suki Koka (สุกี้โคคา):
When you're looking for great street food in Chiang Mai, make sure you go to Chang Phueak (ช้างเผือก) in the evening and eat at these two stalls.

Thai Dishes Cooking Class / Thai Kitchen Centre / Chiang Mai, Thailand / 2019
This cooking class was a great experience for us. We learned a lot by visiting the market with our host and then cooking ourselves. Everything is perfectly organized: transfer to and from the hotel, choice of dishes to prepare, realization of dishes, tasting, etc. I recommend that you will try this when you are in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We payed 800 Baht per person for a half day class, with free cooking recipe book. You can choose which dishes you would like to cook. And of course you have to eat all the dishes what you cooked.
Thai Kitchen Centre is the first cooking school in Chiang Mai. It is located at:
32 Loi Kroh Rd, Tambon Chang Khlan, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50100 Thailand
Thai Cooking School | Asia Scenic Cooking Class, Chiang Mai, Thailand 2019
We have always wanted to learn to cook Thai Food and we finally had the opportunity to. Thai food is our favorite food so far on this trip. We learned to cook stir fries, Pad Thai, Curries (including curry paste), salads, soups and a couple of different deserts. If you want to do a cooking school in Thailand we can highly recommend Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School
Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม) - Best Thai Biryani in Chiang Mai
When I was in Chiang Mai, my main mission was to eat. Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม) is a longstanding restaurant in the city, get all the details here:
If you've ever heard anything about the food in Chiang Mai, I'm sure you've of a dish known as khao soi (ข้าวซอย). You might have already seen my video about what I think is the best version of the dish in Chiang Mai ( but there are many restaurants to get the dish. Known for serving one of the most authentic versions, or more shall I say, original versions, I had to pay a visit to Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม). The longstanding Thai Halal restaurant is located just east of Talat Warorot, and just north of the famous Chiang Mai night bazaar. One day for lunch, Ying and I went over to Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม), and though I was mostly expecting to eat their version of khao soi (ข้าวซอย), I was quite happy to discover that they actually serve one of the best versions of Thai biryani that I've ever had in my life.
I decided to first order a bowl of khao soi neua (ข้าวซอยเนื้อ), or beef khao soi. My bowl of noodles came quickly, and the soup curry looked quite white, and creamy, not so dark colored like my other favorite bowls of the dish. The noodles were almost spaghetti like, instead of being the wide flat egg noodles, and the whole dish was sprinkled with a big handful of dried crispy fritters on top. Overall, the khao soi neua (ข้าวซอยเนื้อ) was a little on the plain side - it just didn't have much flavor going on - it was more like noodles in a cream gravy - not bad, but just not overly flavorful. However, I did notice a cup full of fresh roasted chili sauce, known as nam prik pao, on the side of the table, and it smelled amazing. I added a few heaping spoons of the sauce to my khao soi, which dramatically increased the flavor and really enhanced the dish, but it still lacked the spices that I like in a normal bowl of khao soi.
Next up I ordered a plate of khao mok neua (ข้าวหมกเนื้อ), Thai beef biryani. I wanted to get the goat version, but unfortunately they had completely sold out of the goat before I arrived, so I had settle for the beef. I'm happy to announce the khao mok neua (ข้าวหมกเนื้อ) was one of the best versions I've ever had in Thailand. The rice was nicely spiced, and the chunk of beef was stewed and fall apart tender. What I really loved about the biryani at Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม) was the handful of crispy fried shallots and cilantro tossed on top - that was a beautiful ending tough to give the entire plate some beautiful flavor.
Overall, I would say, go to Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม) for the biryani, and if you're in the mood for a plain dish, you might also sample their khao soi, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat the khao soi.

DELICIOUS THAI STREET FOOD AT CHIANG MAI'S SUNDAY NIGHT MARKET: AUTHENTIC THAI CUISINE
We had delicious Thai street food at Chiang Mai's Sunday night market. The night market is almost 2km long and is full of delicious street food. I of course got another steamed pork bun and we bought a new bag. We got a chance to try authentic thai cuisine here at the Chiang Mai sunday night market. This is the place to go for Chiang Mai nightlife. If you love night markets and you want to see the one in Chiang Mai then check out this vlog!!!
At first, the night market was owned by Chinese merchants, but it grew in size as more commercial buildings were built, and it was no longer owned by a single group of people. Instead, there are many owners, and most of them are from Thai.

Best Places to Eat in CHIANG MAI, Thailand
Chiang Mai is one of our favourite places in the world to visit. One of the reasons we keep coming back is the food. This is a list of my favourite 11 places to eat when in Chiang Mai. I have a mix of Thai and western food and a mix of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner restaurants/cafes.
Let me know if you have been to any of these places and what you thought of them.
Chinese New Year 2015 china town Chiang Mai Thailand
Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. In China, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year's Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. It falls between January 21 and February 20. Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, and because the holiday is not solely observed by Chinese cultures, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the Lunar New Year.
