Street Food in Berlin, Germany. Walking Trought Alexanderplatz During the Oktoberfest
Street Food in Berlin, Germany
The centre of the Oktoberfest at Alexanderplatz is a large, atmospheric festival tent with authentic live music. There is also an open-air beer garden with over 1,000 seats and lots of Bavarian specialities such as pork knuckles, Brez'n, roast pork and chicken, and sweet treats. At a dirndl competition the most beautiful dirndl is chosen every evening.
For over two weeks Berlin's Alexanderplatz turns into a large Oktoberfest Wiesn with original Bavarian beer, traditional hearty delicacies and live music.

Berlin Free Walking Tour
This is the Free Walking Tour by Sandelman's. Thanks to Taylor for the great descriptions.
Free Walking Tour - Berlin GERMANY
Took the free walking tour in Berlin during the first weekend of May. It was very busy and we had to wait about 25 minutes for the tour to finally take us in.
It's reccomended you book the free walking tour ahead of time. The meeting point is Paris Platz (sp) or Paris Square next to the Starbucks. You'll see the people with the red jackets or red umbrellas. Can't remember their tour company name.
It's about a 2-3 hour walking tour and covers several miles. Make sure to dress appropriately and wear good shoes.
Tipping is recommended. We figured if they charge about 15 euro for a 6 hour tour, we gave 5 euro tip for 2 hours. I don't know if that was ultimately fair, still trying to figure out the euro/usd conversion.

The Berlin Wall, Berlin - Germany Travel Guide
The Berlin Wall, Berlin - Germany Travel Guide
A glimpse into the history and impact of Berlin's Wall.
Just a couple of years ago, this here was the no-man's land between East and West. Nowadays, it is hard to tell where the Wall was standing originally. But, when you take a close look on the ground, you can sometimes find those lines, those brick-walled lines, that indicate where the Wall was.
We are now at the memorial site in the Bernauer Strasse with an original piece of the Wall around the corner, and this reminds us of the construction of the Wall in 1961, and the division of the city until 1989. So, I am looking to the other side now. this here is an art piece, It gives you an impression of how it was like to be divided. Because the Wall did not only separate a city, and a country, it also separated families from other families, neighbors, friends. And some people say although the Wall is not here anymore today, still there is the Wall in some people's minds.
So, all along the Wall you could find viewing points where western tourists could take a look at the east. And, just like this place where we are standing right now, so, I imagine those tourists taking pictures for their photo albums, eye-in-eye with those soldiers in the East that would make sure that no one from the East would join them.
I am taking a look at Kreutspach [sp?] right now, which is the West while we are in the East in Friedelsheim and this is the East Side Gallery, a long strip of Wall which is still here, and right after the revolution of the November 9, 1989. They had it painted, by artists, on both sides of the Wall.
Of course, even in the free world, it was not allowed to spray paint graffiti on the walls. But the two meters in front of the Wall did not really belong to the Bundesrepublik anymore, to the Federal Republic, they were a kind of no-man's land, a free-for-all zone. Which meant, that the people could just sneak here, spray paint their stuff on the Wall, and then jump back to the Federal Republic.
You have to be reminded that the Wall used to be a symbol of separation, of hatred, of misunderstandings between two sides. And now, it is back bang in the center. It is still here, but it is a gallery, it is a place where people meet, where they go out, where they cannot tell the difference between east and west anymore. Because, it does not matter. I am Dorthe Eickelberg, showing you Berlin.
Walking from Alexanderplatz to Potsdamer Platz, Berlin - Germany 4K Travel Channel
When we arrive at Alexanderplatz, the first spring sunshine awaits us. We watch the life a little, but stay only briefly. On the way to Nikolai quarter we pass the Red City Hall, the seat of the Berlin Senate and the Governing Mayor of Berlin. The back is determined by the Molkenmarkt, the large surface area determines the construction process. To the left is the Local Court of Berlin-Mitte. Right besides, the old town hall which was built as an extension of the city hall. The Nikolaiviertel is to the right.
The Nikolaiviertel is regarded as one of the oldest quarters of Berlin. In the 2nd World War it was destroyed almost completely in bomb raids and street fights. For the 750th anniversary of Berlin in 1987, the quarter was rebuilt. The St. Nicholas' Church with the Wappenbrunnen (foundation fountain) to commemorate the founding of Berlin, give the impression of an idyllic medieval city, although no building is older than 40 years.
The Ephraim-Palais with its extensive gold ornamentation was built by Veitel Heine Ephraim. He was a financier of the wars of Frederick II. By inferior coins he scored high profits, but contributed to a sharp rise in inflation.
During reconstruction, the building was constructed using original parts, 12 m from the original site. Today it is a museum and part of the Berlin City Museum Foundation.
The Mühlendammschleuse combines the original settlements Coelln (the oldest part of the city of Berlin) and Nikolai. Built as dam, it was later rebuilt to mills that grind grain. Later, sawmills were built. In the 16th century the sluiceway was set up. It allows the sailing around of the mills in the Spree. Due to the ever-growing ships and increasing ship traffic the Mühlendammschleuse was built around 1894. Today's double sluice was set up in 1936.
In 1688, the square was created according to plans of Johann Arnold Nering in the middle of Friedrichstadt. Elector Friedrich III., the later King Frederick I settled the French immigrants (huguenots) who had fled before the French revolution, here.

A Tourist's Guide to Berlin, Germany - in the old East Berlin mainly
In my short time in the German capital, I mainly stay inside the old East Berlin, under Soviet control. I start of by seeing a great Soviet war memorial, then head to Checkpoint Charlie and then see the remains of the actual wall itself. After a wander around the Brandenburg Gate, Victory Monument and Reichstag, I head to Alexanderplatz where I finish my whistle-stop tour.

Exploring Berlin, Walking Along Berlin Wall and More!
In this vlog I start exploring the city of Berlin. I first went to Alexander Platz. Compared West-Berlin with East-Berlin and that the differences are very noticeable. Walked to East-Side Gallery where parts of the original wall were still standing. Then went to Brandenburger Tor, the parlement building and the main train station to meet Matilda from Finland who hosted me in her house last year when I was there. Afterwards went to Bernauer Strasse where parts of the original wall were still standing and a big memorial strip was made. Berlin is a very impressive city with a lot of history.
